The dash repairs turned out very well Rian and look like they’ll need next to no filler, which is always a good thing

Prozac to the rescue.
Saw this in a skip on Sunday. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps03jajeta.jpg After work Monday I managed to get it for £10.00 after getting the driver to put the skip on the ground again and help me get it out and loaded into tbe van. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psngvjj44w.jpg Unloaded back home. Needs a clean up and paint. Better welding table than the one I have. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psn2vvqkjh.jpg |

I am very pleased that pride is not part of my make up.. Sunday Bootfairs X2 My best day to date. Random stuff, more than half for other people, but I scored a few nice bits too. Most expensive was a £2.00 wooden Christmas tree that I would not bother making myself. Two dog jackets for Dennis’ dogs, £1.50 When I got home and saw the price tags, I had to laugh. We’re £7.00 each, marked down to 20p each somewhere in the past. Ooooppps. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psivcnujgt.jpg My one of two favourites, as I like smaller miniature stuff. 50p http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0djjuecv.jpg Check the date in the front. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgoffyzvb.jpg Bought an old cutthroat, really bad condition for £1.00 And a Sabatier knife for 20p Cleaned the knife, sharpened up and used last night.... what a beauty. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psolsyijcs.jpg Stuff I kept for myself, also with Christmas tree and frog cushion. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps7yrx85h3.jpg |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Only had 40 minutes between getting home from work and having to shower last night with Joy coming over for dinner, so could not do anything big, like the truck or that work bench.
So decided this could be seen to in 45 minutes. Remember it was another dumpster find. Very early BSA Meteor .22 Air rifle. More vintage than weapon, so let’s see where it goes. Mate Craig found it and gave it to me as his wife does not agree with guns on their property. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps24kxpbjh.jpg Plan is to restore it, I have bought a replacement barrel seal and 500 pellets. Stripped it down and started on the stock, removing varnish and sanding down to very fine grade by hand. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse9zwctfl.jpg Next up will be either Danish oil, Matt clear varnish or oil. I will see what the metal work looks like once done as it is a bit rough. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psp9zdmns8.jpg |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Reversed off a raised verge outside my house a few weeks ago, when working on the Chevy speaker holes and managed to tear the bottom bumper lip that had been bodged together, including cable ties, before my time, off somewhat.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshguqhkq8.jpg Been wanting to bodge it together ever since, and had a plan, just not been able to get to it. The weekend when I discovered the welding bench in a skip at a panel shop, I was looking for a random bumper to cut up and repair and camouflage the damage. However, they did not want to give me a bent bumper, this evening on the way home, I had to fill my car and went to a different shop, they gave me a bumper off a Toyota Aygo as well as a Mk1 Mini tailgate in good condition which may become a small bench or wall hanging. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqsfsslyq.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuebnxtrv.jpg Measured up the bumper, marked out some lines and cut. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psccnqukvx.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psopouymcc.jpg And with Mitsubishi turbo truck air scoop. Needs to be fine tuned, and then self tappers from below. Followed by painting the lip black. Needs something else to cover th original lip break. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbgiz2v64.jpg Decided to reassemble after cleaning the gun. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psh8hw8tj4.jpg Pellets and barrel seal, landed today. Have shot with it in the dark tonight, packs a decent punch still. TG serial numbers begin in 1974 and run to 1978 Just in case you missed something off. Love to see what you find at your bootfairs and now the skip. Over here we call that "dumpster diving"...lol You should add a line from that Pickups & Come-Ons book to your posts every so often... |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
After work tonight, I cut the front hedge and shrubs, all the grass and then thought I would relax....... ermmm wrong.
Went down to the garage, moved Prozac and got started on cleaning the welding table/workbench. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2y4kumkc.jpg Scraping all the paint off after clearing all the gunge of years off the flat surfaces took some time. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjb9lc1h7.jpg Finally two washes with petrol, and an old t-shirt gave me this, ready for either new paint or just leave it as is. Still thinking..... Opinions? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa4i6bge5.jpg After reassembling the skip find air rifle last night and shooting in the dark, I also set it up tonight. The little sight is not as good as the modern item I bought for the newer gun I bought recently Size difference between the two calibers. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqyojhfdu.jpg And after three sets of 5 pellets and setting up the scope, this was the result. I am really impressed with this skip find. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszwsy3kbk.jpg So there you go, skip finds.... Free cash. And lastly, a pic of Dennis’ progress with the deck out front of what will be his replica vintage gas station. Note the broom on there....... Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Weird day.....
Woke early, fell asleep again and then woken by 07.30 by Harley making tiny little noises to see if I was alive. Had to run around to get some stuff from shops, needed a new hedge trimmer as the one I have abused the last 6 years is dull as hell now. Needed some flat headed self tappers and Danish Oil too for some deck chairs Imhave to give some attention to. Eventually home by 12.00 and then down to the garage. Had planned some truck time today, and also wanted to start investigating a door or fender. Looking forward to trying these Tungsten Carbide tips out as well. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszftiyipp.jpg Prozac needed to be completed after I ran out of time last weekend. Ghetto repair part one was to raise the front end a bit, no need for jack. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psb4qq7zlr.jpg Ex Aygo front lip fitted and screwed in place. While under there, I realised just how messed up,the underside of the front end is, before my time for sure. Fitted. Paint next. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuc8tdjbf.jpg Completed. Lower than expected, that is good then. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyfolixgn.jpg Happy with the result. Also took the wheels back to Black all round, but wonder if I should redo the red trim. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6tvxsjzf.jpg By 3.30I had called it a day, and came in for a drink. Even Dukey, not too clever most days, got in on the action, licking the bottle of 7 UP in my hand. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssswnfh9l.jpg Bootfair and hopefully truck time in the morning after other chores are done. Later. |

My deck furniture has been degenerating over time. Found this chair on the South Circular and fixed it, minor repair. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxrnqga6d.jpg Mate Kevin dropped off some chairs his wife had thrown out, so they needed a bit of tlc as well, mainly Danish Oil like the other chair did, but they looked a bit tired against it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuyzz3wle.jpg I made the mistake of buying two litres of Outdoor Furniture oil, and not Danish Oil as planned, only realised once I opened it and poured into my tub. Still, it certainly revitalised the wood, comparing one done vs one not yet done. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgt6zzysy.jpg I will go get some Danish Oil during the week and give them a coat over the oil. Should be good. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnzyywz1h.jpg |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Been awake since 03.00
Had planned some truck time this weekend, just did not quite turn out as I wanted it to. But, got stuff done and Bootfair God’s were kind to me. Unpacked part of the small 2berth caravan that is one of my storage sheds, can’t go wrong with £40.00 for a large shed, can you? Got the fenders out, that went in there over three years ago. Laid them out and realised that I have my work cut out for me. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psiueonco6.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5qpnvarx.jpg Passenger side, filled with mud and not healthy, loads of filler evident. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfha8jxso.jpg Also evidence on both sides of loads of filler...... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psteam9ksz.jpg Looks like a world of pain to me. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps98j3e62h.jpg Patch panels and replacement braces laid out. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspzrhvpq1.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd4pvt0kz.jpg In the end I decided that as it was 15.00 already, I would carry on with the r pairs on some, hardwood deck, chairs mate Kevin had brought over. Now the weekend is over it seems.. Thanks for checking in and commenting all. |

It’s two fold, stuff Imay or do need and stuff I like. Often the liked stuff is to give away. For little money, I get two or three hours entertainment and get to keep the bits I buy. Still researching joggled vs butt welded joins. However, the Guru has suggested Joggling Once the next 12days are out the way, I may get back onto it. (Mid year reviews and a few other bits) I need to clean up both fender panels on both sides and deconstruct them as far as needs to be gone. Then decide what I have to work with. There are oceans of filler there, and if you recall the original lower control arm, the truck was in a decent shunt at some point, so it could have included sheetmetal too. As removed from the running driving truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqx4jgcfi.jpg So there could be some more surprises hidden under all the red shiny paint |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Good to see you back on the tk sense you have all kind of things going on. Just a note on your finder braces. If the upper part is good just use what you need at the bottom (cut new brace and weld in whats needed) as they are a pain to remove.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Great progress Rian.
I have used paint stripper and a wire brush on a grinder to strip both my fenders, you're absolutely right you have to know what you are working with before you start any repairs. A blow torch and scraper removes filler very quickly,:metal:. With your fender repair it's all down to personal choice, I wouldn't joggle the fender repairs, it does give you a bit of leeway if you get your cuts wrong but you will run into problems getting the wheel arch to look right and the seam at the door edge will be tricky too. I'd always butt weld this kind of repair, if you take your time with the measurements, leave an 1/8" extra on the panel for wriggle room and then grind the last little bit until you have the perfect fit. You have the skills to do that no problem |

I think cautious, slowly, gently will be the operative word here. Took a day leave today so that I could prepare for my mid year review next week. Yes, it is a big deal and a lot of preparing. Fetched a fan from the garage, because it got hot. This thermometer is inside my bathroom. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psiqo8xnol.jpg At about 19.00 Iwent to the garage to give the four rescue chairs a coat of Danish Oil. With help as always. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqjw5d5hh.jpg Despite the two coats of furniture oil, you can s e the difference the Danish Oil made. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshqaxuhdh.jpg And all four done. Happy with the exult. Probably around £35.00 plus my time http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psotzo6tuk.jpg Hopefully years of use ahead in them |
