Remember the person gate created yesterday? From the other side, after removing the gazebo and about 70 boxes, all individually marked, inventoried and recorded. Continuing on the lift, carry, move, pack theme, we unpacked a shed and greenhouse after the gazebo was emptied. Saturday night after finishing late again we went out to a pub for dinner.

I also wrote off my garden shoes and planted them in the tree. I kept declining. On Sunday I went up. What a bonus space. Been busy helping a friend, and day job is currently very demanding and in fact quite stressful; or even hateful. Need to still source 8” rear brake shoes and a pair of new Slave cylinders. |

At home I had a piece of an old pick axe handle that has been waiting for a job for possibly 3-4 years, crazy but true. So while trying to wriggle the old handle, which has borer beetle holes in it as well, so obviously unsafe, out…. It snapped at the head without any effort. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../IMG_0121.HEIC So I marked the new handle and went to the woodwork shed, not been in a while, and got my small bandsaw out, only to find the clade had jumped the track, so reinstalled that, then skimmed the head to a point where I could shape it on the bench grinder, yes….. that is very wrong, but faster than the belt sander or linisher. Eventually got it to a very tight, hammered in fit, followed by some flapwheel action. I popped in at Sallys Unclebob the hoarder today to go look at a car I have an eye on. No idea why really, just a whim. While I was there, Bob who knows everything Sally does asked how the weekend went. I told him, showed a few pics and mentioned some things that need building sooner than later. Like a firewood and solid fuel store alongside the house and the play area in the loft for his daughter Elli. So from old Cars we went out into the yard to a pile of wood and he said to select any of it that I thought Craig may need. Rian, that looks like a wonderful old folded axe head, probably forged in a small shop more than a century ago. With my eyesight it may well be a Chinese knock-off from Bunnings circa 2002. Either way it's a beautiful save of a classic tool. I am so glad you are easily distracted because it makes me feel better. I took the drum, slave and shoes @nickwheeler removed and left neatly, to the local factors today and left them there for them to find the replacement parts for me.
Lets hope they can source the bits. In the mean time my serial vintage bike restorer neighbour called me over this afternoon to collect the diesel/paraffin heater for the carport. This weekend is the yearly charity toy run that we have visited a few times before at Tuba Trucks in Fayetteville in Arkansas.
Run by Clem and Kim Johnson the entry ticket to the whole day including food, live music and friendship is a kids toy. Unfortunately I struggled with the trip. It took me 5 hour 45 minutes to do the posted 204 miles on a Friday afternoon. Included was getting “lost” twice thanks to Fords useless Satnav that is both slow and not very clear, plus showing maps upside down etc. The roads were stop start, and at times the engine was off and handbrake up….. Not ideal. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../IMG_0249.HEIC So I stopped at Craigs just after 7.00pm, had dinner, then Fil got there from his 150 mile trip from Cambridge and we sat talking till after 10.00pm before heading out. Fil to his camper, and I came to the AirB&B we used last weekend as well. Greeted by nobody that time of the night. Before Fil and I got there, Craig and Son Kyle had done a load of preparation already.
Removing a corrugated roof, and a felt roof off the wooden roof structure. Dismantled all the doors, cages and removed most of the wood panels inside of the structure. These were already move and dry stored up on his land. So he and Kyle both are skinny size, unlike me and to some extent Fil who are full size humans and they went up on the roof to start dismantling the roof panels. Calling it a day by 5.30 when the dark had completely taken over. I was hurting like hell by then and found some pills in the car, taking a load. Craigs wife, Lorraine had made us a South African Malay curry and rice and a traditional South African food called Vetkoek which is basically bread dough (or you can use diy pizza dough) fried in hot oil. Then you slice it open, and load with the curried mince, or apricot jam/jelly and butter. Absolutely mind blowing, if you know what it is. I had not had any in 25 years or more. Fil and I left by 7.45pm for his camper and my guest house respectively. It had been a long, hard day. I stayed awake till 11.00pm as I knew if I went to bed too early my aches would wake me by 4.00am. It did, and I got up by 5.10am and made myself some tea. Sunday was still ahead of us all to deal with the rest of the stables. |

this team effort reminds me of how I used to tackle big jobs on cars or homes - I would ask about 5 mates to help - a hard days work with lots of bacon sarnies and banter followed by a boys night in with beers. Then the other 4 would pull in their token when they needed help with a project. |

Interestingly, as Fil observed in his usual dry manner on Saturday when two members off the UKGSER BMW bike forum offered help for a next time….. “Funny how they come like blisters, After all the hard graft is done” The four of us were fortunate that Fil and I are taller, and Craig and Kyle a bit shorter, but also, we were all on the same page, and the flow of work and progress was constant, if tough. Saturday night we were all shattered, but after dinner we all just left…… to go take stock of our possible aches and pains. I have many times helped and never seen that person again, but I have also been helped and never seen that person again. Never having expectations to me is a big part of this. Next job, once Larry has dug the footings for the concrete slab(s) (there is another shed to be built that is in kit form already) will be to get the walls up again. I will reach out on behalf of Craig when that happens as this global forum family certainly does look out for each other. I think if he can get the walls and gables up, followed by the roof sections and set in place, the finishing details will be within his solo ability. Often the extra hands are just needed to hold things in place while they get fixed. |

So yesterday was my first chance to go for my daily walk, and it was pretty good. Somewhat fresh if not chilly, not cold. Zoom into the left top of the pic, and get a perception of the sheer size and height when you see the fences and gate on the ground. This new farmer has so much scaled up his operation, which of course if destroying the roads because of the sheer size of the machines and tools running up and down here. And it seems the local council and he do not give a toss, or care for anything except profit. Of the three churches in Hoo – St. Mary’s, St. Werburgh’s and Allhallows – it is not completely clear which came first. However, St. Mary’s is the best contender as there is record of one Wifward de Hou passing part of the tithes of the parish here to the Priory of Rochester when he became a monk. This was around 1068 and strongly implies a church was already well established here. By the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 Hoo St. Werburgh seems to have existed and was prevailant over Hoo St. Mary already. This is probably because the site of Hoo St. Werburgh was more suitable for habitation and that village grew as St. Mary Hoo shrank to a few houses. Nevertheless, the church at St. Mary Hoo was rebuilt between about 1280 and 1350 as a fairly typical Kentish ragstone church with a castellated tower. All of this was heavily rebuilt around 1881. Today the church is, unusually, a private residence and no longer has any ecclesiastical relevance. The bed is a really useful 6 foot bed as well. Turning circle on these are extremely poop, and having mounted slightly wider than standard tyres, I have a bit of chassis rub on full lock. Other than that, these trucks have extremely comfortable seating and ergonomics are on par with luxury cars of the era. Aircon, speed-o-cruise control, automatic gearbox with an overdrive gear in my ZQ8 factory special which included a bunch of nice touches like upgrades on steering and factory lowering has made this truck a real keeper, unless someone needs to have it more than me. |

Chilly day yesterday, possibly the first one this year.
Weather has been so mild to date, so dropping to @pauly territory meant I had three T-shirts and one of my garage hoodies on to protect my chest and prevent couching and spluttering. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../IMG_0854.HEIC So when I built the carport, I knew that at some point I may want to add a curtain to cut the breeze and even hold in some “HEAT” First job was drilling pilot holes, and then adding these coach screws, a 3/4 box of which cost me about £2.00 at a bootfair last year. New impact driver working nicely, the drill being a pain in the butt releasing the drill bit constantly. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/IMG_0863.JPG Once the canvas was measured as the holes are individually spaced, screws were in, it was time to hook and hang the truck curtain side to see how it fits before @nickwheeler came around midday to help me do the rear brakes on the Rezin Rockit. This can be fixed……. Or not. Work is a bit busy right now. So @nickwheeler came over on Sunday, the first day temperatures had dropped enough to make me wear three garage T-shirts, a hoody and a warm beanie hat. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../IMG_0854.HEIC Earlier the day I had fitted my super large truck canvas as a test run to the carport. Then removed it again. But it will go up when the cold pushes me harder. It certainly makes for a less breezy work area, along with the new lights I fitted, it should be a cold but workable space once the diesel heater is on. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../IMG_0877.HEIC Nick and I had a coffee and a chat first, then went down to the carport and got going. He did all the work, I watched, tried to learn, and made coffee and inappropriate comments. That seemed to work. Hope it did for him too. I would have been totally screwed without his skill and knowledge on site. Cleaning cleaning and more wire brush action, ensuring the reused parts were smooth and slick. Also discussed and looked at the MX5 engine, mounts etc. Plus my initial thoughts on lowering the Rezin Rockit, which may not happen, due to the amount of invasive work it would take, including cutting up the body and trans tunnel. Still, nothing is yet cast in stone. Massive thanks again to Nick for popping over and all the brain power and work shared. Much appreciated. |

He turned and looked at me, then grabbed the mouse and came trundling up the concrete garden path and across the lawn, through the hedge and up my drive, pausing halfway up to drop and play with what appeared to be a damaged mouse, then carried on and carried it up and left it under the truck before coming to the back door to be let in. Craig sent these this morning. The two foundation holes for the concrete pads and brick raised edges have gone down. I think the biggest problem is going to be to find some helpful people when the walls have to be raised and held in place, the first corner is a minimum of a 5 man job as the panels are a 4 man lift and carry from where they are waiting. The roof gables and panels will be a many handed affair as well. Of course finding help…… THAT is the problem. Remember it in future when we start talking paint designs etc. @nickwheeler seems to be quite convincing when it comes to making big jobs look a lot smaller than I see them. All about perspective ehhhh. It started out because I am still hoping to find another RX8 passenger seat to either add to the one I have, or even trade for the adjustable drivers seat I have but do not want. So Nick reckons (correctly) painting the Rezin Rockit is quick and cheap, due to it being such a simple vehicle. Weather is not pleasant as well.
Just cooked a beed mince curry with chunks of carrots and cut baby potatoes, topped with a bottled curry sauce. Ate it too, was nice. Weather kept me indoors and not where I wanted to be. Sally was here and is busy with some crafting, so I helped her with preparing the materials. Printing and cutting the templates for her. He also needs to find a supply of cheap or free used railway sleepers. We all have our own crosses to bear. In mate Craigs case, it is an attention to,detail, possibly borne out from growing up in a family where his mother and father owned a rather large, successful VW garage and engineering shop, started as a home industry in the time of aircooled VW’s where the local dealership would send complex, impossible jobs to to be done. His mum was the machinist, and both parents had day jobs on night shift at GM at the same time. So getting it right is part of his DNA. I used to buy parts from his dad for my various Beetles and Bay window bus. Anyway……. Buying a barn conversion home, that used to be stables will always bring it’s own challenges. This week it must have exploded his head. While redecorating his sons bedroom, the carpet came up, shirting boards came away…… There is more to what meets the eye. But, this took the proverbial totally. Weather has been a bit chilly, windy and wet.
I had planned on doing something, anything, down at the garage yesterday and today. Nope, rubbish weather, so yesterday,I cleaned the cooker and helped Sally with some of her crafting stuff, posted elsewhere. This morning I had the osteopath at 09.00 and some shopping after that. Then came home, cleaned the fireplace and started a fire. Ultimately, I spent the whole day indoors.
At about 2.30,just as I was about to go to the garage a colleague contacted me for some help. A 39 question online test she had to write, I had done mine on Wednesday and managed to bimble my way through it to get 86% for it. Pass mark 80% So I wa delayed. Then, just as I had changed into my garage clothes mate Craig called on Whatsapp and shared some more bodgery from his new house. This time it was the sewerage system. Enough said. Once we had finished our chat, it was starting to show failing light. An MOT question for the English readers on here.
Amazingly, I have now owned this truck for a year, or 1000 miles of use. MOT is due the end of the month and tax yesterday. I am hoping it will pass the MOT…… EXCEPT FOR ONE THING. Airbag light in the dash. The steering was replaced with a non airbag sports unit before I got the truck and the light covered by a bit of tape. Now to me, that makes sense and I do not have a problem with that. However……. What is the general consensus and also who has tested cars like that before ? Thanks. |

I think it depends on the tester TBH.
I would put tape back over the lamp. Im sure there are plenty that will say - "if it was fitted with an airbag - it needs one and will fail" Grizz - get your 66 rolling and you wont need to worry about such things :-) |

Casting the two large slabs, yes there is a second one too, being cast today for a rather large shed. So a concrete pump at £380.00 set up and £80.00 per added hour and a few more costs, its not cheap.
