I got the new tires in... but still waiting for the wheels. But I got the rest of the wood sanded down and ready for final prep for sealing. Mocked the rear tires up and cut the wood as needed to clear these monsters. :D

Finally finished my cab mount conversion from the floating mounts to the solid mounts. Rolled her out dusted her off wiped her down and took off to fill the tank with some fresh gas after sitting all winter, and promptly ran out of gas. I guess the guage isn't that accurate after all.:metal:

I removed the HEI dist and primed the oil pump for about 5 minutes while turning the harmonic balancer. Like my avator signature says...this truck has been a long going project with countless hrs and $$$ which I tackled this truck build my self. I have actually had dreams of driving my truck for the 1st time and worried my self to death on the out come of the trucks powerplant.... The moment of truth has come...She started right up and it sounded so beautiful!!!!!!! My wife and kids were so excited. I finally realized and told my wife why was I worried all this time on the engine for nothing???(((IT'S A CHEVY!!!!)))

Doobiebro,

Truck looks great...look at that 283! I have a '61 ,myself.....and yes it takes longer than we think ha ha ha.....I am going with the same powerplant as you except with a 350 tranny....Im inspired by looking at your pickup to keep at putting mine on the road! Thanks,

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Packed the chinese rad up to ship back to Ledfoot, both tanks are too deep (front to back), only way to fit it in would be to modify the cradles on the bottom, and the bracket on the top. Rad was also about 2" narrower than the original. Dropped my rad off at a rad shop for a re-core.

Also installed new speakers in the doors, PO already carved up the doors... Used the foam baffles, protection from water, and improved sound.

Awesome Keith! Drove mine to work today as well, I am in sales, so I was in and out of her all day (the truck).

Found some steel rally wheels I like, bought 5 of them (need to remove and return the rubber). They are 15x8, going to blast them, paint them black, and get some fresh rubber on them for now. May add beauty rings, and center caps at some point. Shot of the rad, re-cored, and back in for ya too.

So the guy that I got my rims from seems to think that my truck had a 6 in it based on where the engine mounts are located (further towards back of the truck), but the vin says it was a 283 originally. Is me engine further back in the engine bay than it would have been from the factory? Or is this guy full of...

Think about it this way... do your rear mounts (bell housing mounts) line up with that cross member???
If so, that means the motor mounts are where they are supposed to go!
Besides, the further back the better for weight transfer...

I was under the impression that they had that extra hole in front of the
mount. That doesn't mean it was ever mounted there. Thats if my memory serves me right from browsing the forum!
