Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Painted the stepside tail-light brackets. Taking small steps for now getting ready for Christmas and the colder weather. Also spending a lot of time trying to finish the sewing/craft room, figured it would be better to get it done during the colder weather so I can have more time during the nice weather to work on outside projects.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Finished installing a Detroit locker in my C20. I had to take it out in the muddy pasture to test it. I think I will be an HO52 fan for life now. It did better than my 05 F350's "limitless" slip rear. I also replaced the fuses for my amp meter. It works even with the voltage regulator eliminator used with the 10 SI alternator. Granted it isn't the most useful gauge, but I like the fact that it works. Both would have been much more difficult without this site!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well today I polished all the head lamp bezels and the wiper arms. Both were very bad after 20 yrs of sitting and waiting for me.
I also took both the shifter boots and cleaned them up and sprayed them with black dye , they look like new. Put a bunch of nuts , bolts and misc stuff in the vibrator /polisher for rust removal and future plating or painting. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nothing on the truck it's in paint jail for the winter but wired up a used emergency flasher switch and courtesy lights in my wife's 66 mustang. Got a sweet deal on them on ebay. $30 bucks shipped. Woo Hoo. Still does not compare to tinkering on the truck tho.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
have had a vibration in the gearbox for awhile that went away when driving or when foot on the clutch.one of those "i get around to having alook oneday as its not really a problem things".
yesterday was when i finally got around too it and bloody lucky i did!!! the 4 gearbox to bellhousing bolts were all loose with 2 only held in by 2 threads.that would have seriously ruined my day if the gearbox came off while driving!!! memo to self--"check all little problems sooner, rather then when they become big problems later" |

Added an illuminated Christmas Wreath to the grille , then I drove it to my favorite Pick-A-Part Junkyard where they had a 1964 Chevy II Nova Sedan with 194 C.I. I6 , I was able to score a shopping cart full of unobtanium goodies and original hardware for only $50 ! .

Well, it wasn't actually today, but as recently noted in my signature block, I've been selling some of my toys. Being out of work, although not really a big issue (yet), still creates a concerned wife. So, adding significant dollars back into the savings account is probably a good idea.
Unfortunately, my '72 Blazer left on a trailer on November 27th. It was followed on December 6th by Copper, my little swb :gmc2: that was dressed up like a :chevy:! I will still be hanging around, though, as I'm probably going to be starting on my C-30 I acquired about this time last year (I think it was November '11). I also have a line on an unmolested '67 Chevy, SWB, 2WD, SBW that's just begging to be drug home. Hmmmm, going to have to work on the wife with this one. I also acquired a '97 Suburban that needs a little work, probably going to end up going to a friend as a replacement for his Tahoe! |

I'm sick...not in the "good" way.
Today, I went for a nice, long drive. After three years of mostly solo building, I almost have all the bumps and thumps out of the 68/71 ShortFleet. Almost everything works perfectly. Even the fuel gage!!! Still a little clearance problem with the left pipe right about where the cab and bed meet. Some clicking in the speedo cable that suggests a new tweek on the routing. Need one more adjustment on the e-brake. One tooth off on the steering wheel. Little, fun stuff. It was fun to drive today in the sunshine. Here's the sick part. Now that everything's almost completely buttoned up (except paint and a nice wood bed), I find myself swooning about the possibility of a 383 stroker motor and a trans with one of those two-thousand plus dollar overdrives. Sick, sick, sick!!!! He who does not remember the past is condemned to repeat it. Again! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Bill what trans and motor combo do you have now?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Having recently bought a new business, and being completely tied up with that, my old pickup has been rode hard and put up wet. I decided that it was time to give it the love it has been desperately needing. I have purposely not done a lot to this truck, because I have a problem with not knowing where to quit, and this truck was bought to be a driver, nothing more. With the acquisition of the new business, we now live above work, so the "driver" has now become my toy. So starting a week ago, the truck got brought into the new garage for the first time and I commenced the winter preparation:
First on the list was a bath, it hadn't been washed in probably 6 months. Once the body was clean, the wheels looked really bad so they got polished, and the tires all clean and shiny. Now that, its a little more fun to look at, I started on the mechanical problems that have developed over the last 2.5 years as a daily driver. First things first, it has to start. I rebuilt the carb over the summer when I was considering selling the truck before moving. Shortly after the move, it decided to quit starting without a little help from a shot of gas. The accelerator pump plunger was slipping off the rod. Easy fix, ordered up a replacement rod and plunger, installed it and promptly broke a screw off in the carb body. Got it drilled out and re-tapped, good to go. Next thing to address was the headlights. I have only had low beams since buying the truck almost 3 years ago. I drove the truck to work and back in the daylight so it was never much of an issue. I replace the headlights and regained my high beams, but they still left some to be desired. I went ahead and wired up a couple relays, and BAM, nice crisp, bright headlights. Realized in the mix of everything else, the fan clutch was junk so I replace the mechanical fan with a 16" electric unit. I wasn't having any cooling issues, but the truck was only driven 4 miles back and forth to work. The 454 barely had time to get to temperature before I shut it down every day. Before it gets too much colder here in the midwest, I decided I would enjoy a little heat. When replacing the engine in the spring, I played carb games and left off a heater hose when fitting to clear the Holley fuel inlet. Picked up a new fitting the other day, so I installed that and regained my heat. Last but not least, I chased down the bad wire that was causing my radio not to work and replaced the wipers. We are now ready to face old man winter! |
