Re: Another Blue Chevy
Sometimes the build threads stop once the rig is all put together. More fun to see it incorporated into daily/weekly/or monthly life after that. Once in awhile updates is just great.

'Finished'
As they're machines they cannot be finished unless you never use them .
Not using your truck is a mean thing to do . |

I've been chasing a coolant leak , thought it was a loose lower hose but a closer look shows it to be the radiator . There is no one around that repairs them anymore. I don't just want a patch , so I found a new aluminum replacement and received it today . Now I have to figure out how to change it . I'm hoping I don't have to dismantle the front of the truck to change it.

Radiator
That's a thing of beauty .
I hope you remember to flush and clean the cooling system annually regardless of mileage or it will have a short lifespan . I'm curious to see what's involved with swapping it out . ? How many rows in the core does the new one have ? . |

I've been looking on line to try to find info on changing it out without any luck. I guess I will learn as I go. I'm pretty sure the hood assembly has to come off . I hope the grille surround can stay put. |
Radiator Replacement
I don't know if the old car manual project . com will have the factory shop manual, they may well .
I had a 1946 3100 in the 1970's and IIRC the grille was about the only thing I didn't have to remove when doing radiator service . |

I've not gotten far ,was feeling under the weather for a week now the weather is changing. I have gotten the hoses removed and the fan blade off. there is no drain plug that I can see so I've gotten coolant every where but the drain pan. I bought a new upper hose and am still researching what lower to use. I want molded hoses and I think I may have come up with a couple of candidates, but I don't know the exact dimensions of that first picture. I guess the second one could be spliced to make it work.

Coolant Hoses
I don't supposed there's a F.L.A.P.S. near you you regularly trade with ? .
My old local NAPA store (now closed) use to let me wander the aisles with an (very clean) old sample hose in my hand, peering up inmto the gloom where the hew hoses were hung on hooks . Once in a while I'd buy a hose I couldn't cut down and use, I never took those one back so I was able to make my own molded hose selections . |

... I've had to hard mount mine to the grille surround cause the new radiator has a cap mounted in the engine compartment. I was to trying figure out how to do it . I had an extra radiator cap that was inoperable so I drilled a hole through it and used a stud to mount it under the other to hold it on. I cut out a rubber pad from a sheet of rubber. I am pretty sure this will work just fine. |
Rad.Cap. Ornament
No, I didn't I don't order a whole lot of things .
I spent some time looking at the various ones for sale, some look really bad, others less so so take the time to read all the comments from each and every different vendor . |

I've gotten it ready for someone to help install the hood back on. I'm hoping to get that in the next day or two.

Today I modified a part to make my compression tester work for my truck. I posted this in tool threads as well......I bought a compression tester to use on my '35 Chevy with a '67 Chevy 250cid inline 6cyl engine. The engine uses long reach spark plugs but the threads in the head start aways down in the head.[as seen in picture #2 in fitting #3] The fittings that came with it would not work for my engine so I bought a package of spark plug non-foulers and modified one to work . I thought I would share my fix in case anyone else ever has this issue.
