Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Well, I have to admit, I never knew Chevy made one. Everyone I have ever seen was a GMC. I'm sure they are listed in my Chevy Manuals, but without any pictures, I just never noticed.
Nice truck. Air Brakes and a Factory Tach to boot. Someone got a great deal for $1400. I would had paid cash on the spot for that one. A '64 to '66 for sure and probably a '65 as mentioned, but I would sure love to see a close-up of that Side Emblem. Any idea on what was under the Hood? Bill |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Auction did not list anything other than 5+2 transmission. Truck was from Colorado Springs and auction was last summer in Henderson Colorado. First Chevy I've ever seen of that style other than the dealer photos.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I don't see any signs of it being a Diesel. If it is a '65 for sure and a Gas Engine, it could very well be a 409.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Yeah,I wondered if it's a gasser what motor it had. Was wondering being a Chevy if it had the 409

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
65 Models you could still get a 348 or 409

Looks like the LCF E and W series 80 models were only diesel powered. Produced 62-65? The GMC B series were identical and more popular. The Model E80 had a diesel engine GM 6V-53 , W80s a 6V-53N. Doesn't look like they came with gas engines.
They were replaced by the H series in '66, correct me if I'm wrong. |

I know the GMCs came with V12 or V6. I don't know about Chevys. Nice ad pictures!

Great pictures of some Chevys. It looks like they do share the same type of Side Emblems as the other models do.

Don't feel bad, I've never seen one either, there wasn't even one at the Brooks Oregon ATHS show last year.

I feel bad because I thought I might be the first to put a 16V DD in a truck but I was wrong again. This is the personal truck of the owner of Werner transportation, I think its safe to say he had enough money to get the job done. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't of found the pics and story, wish there were more pics. I'm a bit jelous, think I'll put batteries on my 16s and crank them over a bit, I know they are free cause I barred them over last week. Keep you posted when I fire them. Mine will never look like Werner's, They will stay big green monsters.

It looks like in the pic where they are lifting the van that they poured concrete pads and put the B on heavy jack stands.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I like to go by CA (Cab to Axel). My best guess, by a little rough measuring, would be 204 Inches. That would be from the Back of the Cab to the exact Center of the Tandems.
I agree that it was most likely special built. About the only bed I can imagine on there would be an extra long Ladder Truck (Fire Truck). Bill |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
That 6500 is either a '64 or '65 and unless they improved the Steering on them from the '62 6500 I used to drive, that truck would be hard to take a corner with. Those trucks had a couple of weaknesses and one of them was that they wouldn't turn. Even with my 16 Ft Flatbed, with about a 126 CA, you had to really plan your turns.
One day back at the yard, I parked the truck with the wheels turned fully to the right and got out just to see what it looked like. It looked like it was only about halfway turned compared to the average truck out there. I then fully understood the challanges I was having with it. Bill |

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Nice to see a great 'ol truck still working. If there was a brand new one parked next to that GMC, you can guess which one I'd be jumping in.
