I measured the column today and it is 32" overall length and 23 1/2 from the end to the flared out part. Dad said that he ordered a kit from Ididit and all he told them was that it was a 52 Chevy truck and this is what the sent. The box even said 47-52 chevy truck. Hope this helps.

Bernie can you tell me what the length of your steering column bracket is if you recall?

Thanks.

The column drop is 2 1/2 inches to the center. We are still trying to figure out the u joints and shafts....Looks like I am going to be doing a little more welding and cutting on the frame to make every thing clear...lol. Well not everything is cut and dry. I kinda figured that was going to be a challenge but the more I look at it the more I think I am going to need a little more clearance. But im not scared.

I still need to build some gussets and finish welding it in but at least I got something done today.:metal: Also there is a picture of one of the seats that we are going to use and a picture of the battery box from Brothers. The seats will probably be cut down but we still have some time to decide on that. Enjoy.

Bernie

I have a 1952 Chevy pick up that I am redoing. I have the break booster and I would like to know where you got your break booster from and did it come with all the brackets? Thank you for your time Bob

Worked on the steering linkage today and figured out that I have lots more work to do before I am happy with it...lol. Actually I need to get another ujoint that dad is going to order this week. I think that the double joint will work....I hope. Once I get that figured out then I can install the support bearing. Everything I tried I was running into something...this is as close as I got but the center joint is in a bind. Here are a couple of pictures.

Yep...a 700R4...complete with converter and all the goodies. I need to rework the tranny mount a little but will probably install it in the next weekend or so.

Well I finally have steering.....YAAAAHOOOOO!!!!! I got all the u-joints and shafts done and actually lifted it up and ran it lock to lock a few times. I still have the support bearing brackets clamped and will weld in once we take the motor out. I am going to pull the motor so I can install the new transmission. So once we do that I will weld the brackets. Also there is a few more things I need to weld on. He is a few pictures.

Hey Bernie,

Nice work on the steering. You can't go wrong with the 700r4, I have one in the garage I'm going to rebuild when I find the time. Once again looking really good man, keep up the good work.

when i did my steering, i considered using one of those drop units that i've seen in the Summit and Speedway catalogs, but wasn't sure how i'd support it. In the end i ended up running mine much like yours. I did have a bit more room though since my engine is mounted what appears to be a bit higher than yours.

Things are lookin' really good here. before you know it, you'll be out driving it :)

Hey Thanks, I actually feel like I got to drive it cause the steering works now:metal:.

I was just checking out your build thread. You have been busy. I only get a few hours a week to mess with this one so it is going to take a while. Take car and good luck with your build.

Got a little out with the old in with the new this past weekend. Pulled the motor and tranny out and got the new 700R4 mounted to the motor. I need to get some help to move the cab so that I can rework the transmission cross member. I also welded in the brackets for the steering linkage. I won't be able to work on it this weekend because my youngest is graduating from High School...YaaaaHoooo!!!! Hopesully next weekend I can get that stuff done and start the body work. I think most of the fitting is done and should be coming together now...I hope. Here are a couple of pictures that I took this weekend.

Ok not a lot going on exciting. I have been doing some detail work. I needed to make some clearance for the headers and the steering linkage around the rack. The u-joint was going to rub so I notched it and filled it in with a piece of tubing. Other than that I haven't been doing to much. Been really busy with my youngest son and getting him ready to start college in the fall. My dad is going to paint these reworked areas this week so maybe I can get the motor in its final resting spot and start with the brake, fuel and power steering lines. Here are a couple of pictures of what I have been up to.

Bernie can you tell me what thickness of sheet metal you used? (assuming that is how it is bought?) I have some floor patching and not sure what to ask for at Metal Mart.:mm:

Hey on the frame I think it was 10ga but if you are repairing the floor I think something thinner like 16 or 20 ga would be enough. I think 16 is .059 thick and I can't remember how thick the 20 is. Good luck.
