Lo, when you say "the stock set-up won't work"---do you mean with the semi wheels (like the pic, and like Rus will use)? In other words; mine is a '72 C20, I will run stock 16" steel one-ton wheels, shorter-than-stock tires (IDK the height yet), stock subframe, PB lengthened arms & bags, & C20 or C30 SW hubs. If I (I mean Nate) get the hub-to-hub dimension right, I should be good to go, huh? I know it won't lay frame, but at a lowish ride height, it will prob be driveable, or will it? Hope I didnt get off into hijack territory Rus, but like you, I love it when I find a man who knows! JK |

The PB arms are for the guys spending the CA$H to run semi wheels, and lay frame. In your case,... I would just run dually hubs and stock a-arms with bags and cups. There are ton's of pics on the internet. I know people use this forum to answer specific questions,... but if you look around, you can find the exact truck you are building. Example: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=245096 Use Google Images.http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...w=1024&bih=485 Like these,... |

Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
I could be mistaken, but I think the 3500 has the granny first gear as well (I think they are both 5.34 or something crazy like that)
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
I'm not 100% on the granny gear thing thats just what I was told. Once I have my suspension down I'll really start to look into it.

Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
GM Specs:
NV3500 gears: 1___2___3____4___5___R 3.49 2.16 1.40 1.00 0.73 3.55 NV 4500 gears: 1______________________2____3___4___5___R 6.34 (1993) 5.61 (1994 on) 3.44 1.71 1.00 0.73 6.34 (1993) 5.61 (1994 on) Towing with a NV3500 is going to be hard on the clutch if you are decently heavy. I have an NV4500 going into my 1970 GMC. I plan to tow with it so I wanted the deeper first gear to get 20k worth of steel rolling off the light. Ideally a NV5600 is what I wanted because it has better gear splits and I have towed with one a lot and love this trans. 1st 5.63 2nd 3.38 3rd 2.04 4th 1.39 5th 1.00 6th 0.73 R 5.63 But they are super spendy. Still better than an SM465. IMO Project is looking good! |

Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
My '03 GMC has a NV3500 from the factory. I've read its good in its stock form for about 300-350 hp. I'm not sure what you have in store under the hood, but something to keep in mind.

UPDATE!!
I talked to the Porterbuilt fellas today and the plan is to run 1 ton spindles with the stock length arms. After the added length of the 10 lug adapter minus the monster offset of my 22" semi wheels, they should then squeeze up inside the fenders!! I bought 4 of them today!! Hoot Hoot!:metal: |
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
Sweeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna paint them? Or keep them like that?
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
undecided at the moment.
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
I never even thought about paint! Is that even an option? They would look tough all shined up, too, though!
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
could be but i know a guy that powder coats too :) Not sure how much he charges though
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)

Thanks Keith! I appreciate that!

Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
Less than 28" tire height, 4.10 gear, 292 torque---I'm cool with a 3.49 first gear!
|
Re: She's a ton of fun (dually build on air)
Is your PB stuff going to be here by March 16? ;) No reason, just asking.
