The thing is, we live 15 miles apart and a lot of what we manage to do is shared skills and labour.

Well last night I got a PM regarding my old engine and box . it's now sold to a guy on the Isle of Man . The best bit is my surname is Hetherington not a very common name down south . Well after a long chat it looks like his dad and mine both came from Newcastle . So he may be a relative somewhere along the line .

He's building a Chevy pick up with a 3inch roof chop .

So with the money in the bank on Friday night , I went down to my local garage first thing on Saturday morning as I had already spoken to one of the guys there about his TH350 auto box he was selling during the week . While I was collecting my box, a guy called in with a Barracuda ,he has had it since he was 23 years old and that was 22 years ago

It came with the torque converter so I just need too get a flex plate

My engine is a single rear seal type with inline starter bolts so it's a 153 tooth type

Well with Ian working on his truck and Rian working on his . I might start feeling guilty not working on mine . Well after getting my old engine on the pallet ready for Monday ,there wasn't any room in the carport to start sanding down the rest of the chassis . So on Sunday morning myself and Amanda had arranged to meet Dell at a local show. He came over from Essex to the show with his wife his two children. His mother and father in law and grand parents Came as well as the live in Kent .

My box is a th350 and according to the thread I read, if the starter bolts are in line it's a 153 tooth I need ,unless anybody can tell me other wise
My engine code is 14093638
according to my search that makes it a one -piece rear seal engine designed for a truck with high swirl intake ports roller lifters center bolt valve covers

Well no work on the truck tonight, unless you count pressing buttons on the internet. With the holiday looming myself and Rian have been checking out parts and prices and options on getting them home . Well it's a big thank you to Don , he must feel like a kid at Christmas , only to find all the pressies are for you brother. Martin, as discussed yesterday, I am happy to make you a nice set of removable bed sides in oak once your truck is back together.

This was the style and design I had in mind.

It needs to be quite low, and more cosmetic than functional.but we can play with the height, though three strips will be too much IMHO.

I did not want a plain, two rail bed side but rather a stepped one.

So cut and prepped the wood to have it like this, and then mocked it all up before doing the wood glue and clamps.

As I said earlier today was going to be a busy day .
Awake at 5am surfing the net to check what I could get for the truck . Then I got up fed and the dogs, later wishing I hadn't fed the Labrador retriever as you'll see why later . He obviously didn't like what I gave him and got his own back .

So got ready jumped on the bike to meet Rian at my local filling station . We had arranged go to the mx5 breakers . We had to go on the bikes because with this whole bloody "refugee" thing at Calais, and the Euro-Tunnel, and Operation Stack, closing the M20 Coast bound, which was most of our route, so it involved a reroute through the country lanes instead of the motorway. We even stopped for a McD's Coffee on the way.thank Rian

The reason for going to the MX5 breakers was my heater fan blower didn't work when I got my truck . So hunting around in my garage I found a spare one from an mx5 that with a little work I could make fit . So after telling Rian this (and me getting told off for not taking pictures) we had to go and get one to replace his faulty unit .

This meant me spending 30 minutes upside down removing it for him

Then it was back on the bikes with a quick detour via the Sandblasters , to get a price on getting some truck parts blasted . Luckily they have only shut the motorway going southbound so getting home was a lot quicker ( well if Rian's big BMW could keep up that is )

So after an adrenaline rush , riding home it was time to get my engine on the new stand I had purchased on eBay during the week .
Also I had said to Paul I would take a look at the bed sides . As he needed the front section of one to repair woody . So first thing first we got the engine out of the carport ready to load onto the stand . Then we got the bedsides out and laid them out to check what was the best ones to use .

This is when it all went so wrong

After laying them on there side and deciding that the ones I got from Dell ,were the better option to use,as we were putting them in the garage ,our Labrador decided to knock the engine off the trolley onto the bedsides .

Martin, got your message, I was at a fund raiser for the North East Air Ambulance last night so couldn't pick up, big bad head this morning :waah: (but it was for a good cause :lol:)

All of the hoses are stainless, most are neoprene/rubber lined but the ones for the trans cooler are PTFE (rubber is a bit iffy at higher temeratures). I always seem to have a load of fittings lying around but anything I was short of came from Hosefittings UK, they are based in Birmingham, prices are reasonable and they are very helpful. Getting threaded fittings for US engines is really easy as everything is NPT (british engines tend to use BSP there's a much smaller selection available) for everything else you just need the AN- size.

The radiator hoses came from Summit Racing, but I wouldn't recommend them they are quite poor quality, the hose finishers are OK but the hose walls are thin and the braid is poor, I will change them at some point.

The trans pan and cover, I went for the "tin" ones. I figured the only person would would get to appreciate the alloy ones would be the bloke who does the MOT :lol:

The girl, at the register he went to, was one of those classic… "lights on, no one home" individuals...:lol: He asked her about the shirts, and if he could get some help in that area, cue the Jeopardy theme music, and she went into blank stare mode. She looked at his phone and pic of shirts, then looked at computer screen, then back at t-shirt display in the distance, then back at boy, then at telephone near register… by this time the boy's wife started for the door… he remained quiet waiting for anything, then said "Forget it" and left...:haha:

I started stripping the engine last night ready for paint as it's now on the stand . These are the numbers I have found .

On the front behind the water pump on the flat machined part is V1024UZB

On the rear above the oil filter on a machined flat part is CME138359

On the back of the block is in cast is 14093638

If any body can tell the year and what it came from that would be great

The block is 87-95 Chevy 350, could be 2 or 4 bolt mains and either flat or roller tappet cam and 1 piece rear seal…:mm:

I spoke to a company called Real Steel regarding my flex plate . A very helpful guy there looked it up from all my engine and auto box details and told me they had one in stock .
Well after speaking to Rian yesterday he told me he would be going very near there shop on his route today . I think he wanted too pop in for some parts for himself , so today he collected my parts for me .
