Here is a pair of Scouts. I've seen this first one around town where I work. Caught him using our car wash on my way out the other day. Very nicely done. Must have done a lot to keep it looking like most Scouts I've ever seen!
http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/q..._130230476.jpg

This second one is more in line with what I'm used too for Scouts. As the old joke goes, if you are really quiet standing by one you can hear it rust..

I do happen to know who owns this one. The elder owner of the dealership I work at. The general idea is he got caught up in auction fever. He went to a local estate auction looking to buy some irrigation pipe and a trailer. He ended up buying two trailers, the pipe, a 1946 Chevy two-ton dump truck and this rusty 4 cylinder Scout pickup.
http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/q..._174638020.jpg

Yes it's rusty. Quarters, rockers, floors, inner bed structure. Ugly. Fuel line was plumbed into a regular 5 gallon red plastic gas can. On the bright side, with nothing more than filling the carb with fuel through the vent and a jump box the half-a-v8 lit right off and settled into a sewing machine smooth idle. He's not sure why he bought it. It is not a candidate for us to restore in the shop though. We plan on getting it running right, drives safe and functions well enough for somebody else to tackle the body. Heck, compared to some of the swiss cheese rides you guys from back east deal with, this baby is cherry!

cool rigs!!! My son has a 1972 Suzuki LJ20 which is pre- Samurai originally it had a 2 cylinder 2-stroke engine.....engine was bad when he got it and parts are rare, so he just finished putting a 81 Datsun engine and trans in it, it has a divorced trans case so pretty easy to hook it all up...The engine looks like it was made for it, just fits! I will get some pics and try and figure out how to post them....

KOOL I've always liked the Scouts, my uncle used to own a scout2 back when they were made in the 70's it had the soft doors with the plastic around the door area as a fill in panel...I have a lifted one from tractor supply in my car case collection..They were the TRUE 4x4's... All Wheel Drive.....

Got a lot of off road miles on my bus over the last 24 years.

Wish I would had not lost all the pics of my 58 panel in the dirt.

Cool pre-63 Bus. I'm glad to see someone else who knows these things are great off road. Those reduction gear give ultimate clearance and the rear engine gives excellent traction for such a light vehicle... just like the Bugs. I built my vision of a Baja Bus in the mid-70s...and ended up running down through Baja! I have pictures in P-Bucket if I ever find them. I hear ya on the pictures of earlier vehicles owned. I've had more that I never took pictures of than ones I have, and not nearly enough of most until digital cameras took over. I do have some prints I never scanned. Just need to get a scanner or take them to Walmart to put on disc

I hate to say it but those Fodes sure you look Purdy...I would drive any of those beauts..
Funny the Idea did run across my mind to take my 48 chevy fleetline and put the body over on my 4x4 chassis there was only a 3/4" difference in the wheelbase...but the ole fleetline is gone now, but had I had a garage I might have attempted this....it would have been bad to the bone..

Oooohhh, I like it. I like it a lot! Today a '90s IH 4wd conversion heavy equipment service truck rolled by my place that I have never seen before. I'll be looking for another siting. Something I always wanted, a medium duty 4wd.

Yeah, I've always wanted a large factory 4x4 like this Ford, although I have no real need for it. My wife says I'm compensating for something....

I got it off of Ebay for $2500. I put a low bid on it and was the winner, but having it transported to my location was a bit costly.

It was used by a fire department back in Tennessee. The body is in great shape with some minor surface rust, but no rot. The cab is filled with levers! A twin stick transfer case, one for the parking brake, one for the trans, one for the PTO winch, and one for the hydraulic lift bed.

It even has an aftermarket A/C system, although it doesn't work.

Very cool truck! Now if I can only find a use for it...

I love this thread. I pledge allegiance to no make, this thread reminds me why. Most makes had great a 4x4 model at one generation or another. :metal:

Talk about a rare one, ey? It got my vote for people's choice, the only award given. There's no judging at these shows. Just bring them out for folks to see. My choice till I saw this one was a '41 Plymouth pickup. It won, which means it goes on the dash plaque next year.

Bet it's quite the unit to drive, also noticed the low profile side walls, modern by todays standards, ahead of it's time.
What engine does it have.

I think it's a 4-banger Buda or Continental, like about 300 cu in. They made the first 4wd and it was a car, in '08 or '09. They went to trucks, supplied armed forces with over 10,000 in WWI.
