Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Guy's Id appreciate some advice.
Ive never bought new wheels for a vehicle before save something that basically replicated the original patterns etc, so Im struggling a little with the selections of my new wheels for my 62 shortbed stepside. I would like to get a set of American Racing slot mags:- http://www.americanracing.com/wheel/...9-ansen-sprint I need to go up to 17" as Ive fitted Wilwood disc's front and rear and Ive got a 12 bolt rear end fitted. The rear is dropped 3" and the front 2.5", though at the moment I also have 2" drop springs fitted and may stick with them. The steels Ive got at present are 15 x 7 with 4.5" back space with 245/60 front and 275/60 rear. I cant use these easily to get a size as they dont fit the disc conversions but I have been able to use them to get an idea and The seem to fit fine for width. The American Racing wheels Im looking at come in 8" width (min) so Im looking at 17 x 8 with 4.5" back space front and back with the same 245/60 and 275/60 tyres. Looking through this thread Im reasonably confident this set up will work but I thought it worth a quick post to ask if anyone else has a similar set up, just to put my last few doubts at ease. Im in the UK so I really only have one shot at this. I cant just drop into the local wheel store and returning them would not really be cost effective. |

I have a 62 step side with 17X8 wheels with the standard back spacing for that wheel. 4.5 sounds correct but I can not be sure (I can find out if you would like). I have 275 in front and in the rear. I have a 5 inch drop in the rear and they fit. With a 3 inch drop in the rear you should be fine. I might have rolled the lip of the rear fender a little to get them to fit.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I really appreciate your reply Im pretty sure they will fit but its nice to at least know someone else has this combination fitted. I dont mind if I have to roll the lip. I dont even mind if I have to flair the arch a little (more bend it out that flair it). If you have time Id appreciate knowing your back space, but no problem if you cant get it it.
I do like your truck though. Beginning to wonder if 3" is enough. If my son had his way he would have me slam it all the way to the ground on air. It will be his one day and he can do what he wants to it then, but for now I need to stop him watching Fast N Loud! |
Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I just looked them up in the wheel vintiques catalog and they do have a 4.5 inch backspacing.
|
Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Thanks for that, much appreciated.
I think decision time is fast approaching! |

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Just to clarify because what I wrote could be miss understood. When I said "they have 4.5 inch backspacing". What I meant to say was, the wheels that I ordered from wheel vintiques came with 4.5 inch backspacing which is there standard backspacing for that size wheel.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I never did get round to posting details of what I finally decided to get for my truck.
Eventually went with Rocket Racing 18" Rocket Booster in silver. 7" in the front and 8" in the rear with 235/60 up front and 265/60 on the rear. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0pdcaeie.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...psuwto43ln.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...psxl1iazyi.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...psu8wc3i0e.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...psyppkv4wj.jpg Now all I need to do is finish the cab repairs, fit the doors, paint the cab, fit it, fit the engine and transmission, finish and paint the bed panels, install the bed, finish, paint and fit the front end sheet steel then the interior, wiring etc etc etc. Simples! |

what do you have as far as the suspension setup? i have 2.5" drop spindles and 4" rear drop springs. having trouble making the right choice |
Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
At he rear its 3" drop springs. Id have liked to go a bit lower, possibly, but I don't want to have to start altering the frame.
Ive got 2.5" drop spindles on the front but I couldn't get the standard height springs to fit, so I fitted the 2" lower springs that came with the 78 front clip. Depending one what the front end and overall stance looks like I may keep it like that. I quite like a little nose down stance even if its a bit old school these days. |

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Looks great :metal:
Did you have to use a spacer in the back to push it out toward the fender? Just curious as 5" BS seems like a lot. |
