That guy must need a dangerous goods permit when his tanks are full! Jeezus!

It looks like, on the first one, that they used two cabs to make one single cab. It still has the door on the back one even.

That second one didn't come out too awful

All 3 are actually.

The truck in the top picture is determined not to run out of fuel...

Actually,Bill, that first one was the first prototype space shuttle GMC produced for NASA. They couldn't get the brakes good enough to stop it on it's return landing so the project was scrapped.

Man,that first step up is a doozy!

Vandals struck one of the job sites . So the old 73 KW had to go drag the 7 E back to the yard . 8V71 350 hp 5 speed main 4 speed aux . That truck drug everything the old company had from equipment to office trailers

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

The crossbred GMC in post 519 was at the Pocono truck races back in '82 or 83 when they held drag races and qualifying for the oval race on Saturday with the big race on Sunday. MH 9500 with 8V71 under the hood grafted to Astro cab, grafted to KW hi-rise sleeper.

Keep in mind those tanks ain't all for fuel on an RV. You need fresh water, gray water and black water [AKA sewage} besides diesel fuel, and maybe propane for the water heater and kitchen stove in the typical RV. We've been trailering since the early '90s.

Post # 524--------Jimmy Diesel to the rescue in the neat KW, geared to move anything .

Spartan 100-------Don't remember hearing of that model gas job. I have an MH 90 diesel. Seems like the model designations are all over the map .

Yeah I've only seen a couple others on the net and both were old fire trucks. I haven't found much on the Spartan designation either, other than it is a heavy duty truck!

I had at one time (and wish I hadn't gotten rid of it) a 59 Chevy Spartan 10400. Had a factory 348/5 speed/ 2 speed rear combo.

Very low production model, not many around. I believe 1958 was the first year for Budd 10 hole (standard pattern) wheels on Chevy's.

ky-donzi 04-20-2014 07:54 PM

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

So was the spartan 100 the next size up from a 90? Like 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100? The largest I've seen is a 90

factorystock 04-20-2014 09:20 PM

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

There was a re alignment of model series starting in 1960, so the 100 does not mean it is in the same GVW class as the 90 series in the 60's. 1959 GVW for 2 axle 100 series was 25,000lbs, GVW for 3 axle 100 series was 36,000lbs

junkmandan3 04-20-2014 11:26 PM

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

That just verifies the confusion ................35000GVW is pretty normal with 2 axles..........12000 front and 23000 rear. Some of the early gas tandems had a very low rated tandem.

Then, north of the border the model designations are reversed from ours . I'll have to dig out some Canadian spec sheets to verify ..

As I've always known them. The one in the middle is a 72 last of the little window windshield.
My personal fave wide hood little window.

Today they drive the cars down ramps off the ships, but as late as the '70's I remember them being loaded off by a crane, 1 by 1 on a platform. They told me that one day they dropped one.
