Man, its been a long time since my last post. Since my last update, I've completely redid the bed frame. I had to some clearance issues, so I rebuilt it out of 1x2 steel tubing instead of the 1x1 I started with. Probably overkill, but nice peace of mind.

The whole bed is shimmed 1/8th inch, so when its time to do final alignment, I can go up or down with it.

Here is an overall shot and another of the front bed mounts. It has size mounting points. Two in front, two off the step notch, and two in the rear.

This shot shows where I tied the front bed mount into the frame with a reinforcement that ties the upper and lower rail together.

Here is the mount that attaches to the step notch

And here is one of the rear attachment points. These will all be bolted to the frame after I weld threaded bungs in my pretty powder coated frame!

On to the bumper install, with four custom bumper brackets of course. I made the mounting points out of plate steel connected by some DOM tubbing I had laying around.

This shot shows the outer bumper bracket and you can also see an attachment point to the bed side.

And this is one of the inner bumper brackets. Sorry for all the clamps in the way.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/1...f48e98de_c.jpg

And the rear view. Bumper is nice and snug up to the bedsides.

Wow! First time I've come across this build. Your metal work is just ridiculous. Possible relative of ebfabman I think. Great creativity and imagination ill be following from here on out. I'm nervous about a little rust repair. I better just dive in and figure it out as I go.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5

Got a little something done on the truck today. I needed to make a bracket to tie the bed frame to one of the bed supports. Here is the area I was working with.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5477/1...64fc8a8c_b.jpg

The bottom piece is 1/8" plate which will accept a nut and bolt. The top is 1x2 .125 wall tubing which I wanted to put a threaded bung in. I picked these up from Summit. The have a lip on them which I cut off for this application.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/1...bf9ea8aa_b.jpg

Next step was to design a bracket. Here is what I came up with made out of 3/16 plate. The upper two holes are slotted to allow adjustability in the height of the bed for final fitment.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7314/1...daef6a2d_b.jpg

Next step was to drill some holes. If you guys dont have rotobroach's, GET SOME! They are one of those things that once you get them you will ask yourself how you lived without them. They cut like butter. Leave the bimetal hole-saws for wood!

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5509/1...264673a7_b.jpg

For this job, I used the largest size in my kit which was .75 inch...same diameter as the threaded bungs.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2883/1...49421b22_b.jpg

OK, next step was to weld in the bungs. I had to figure out a way to make sure the bungs were welded in perfectly straight and square. So I came up with this little tool...a simple steel plate with some a hole for a nut and two more to expose an area to put a couple tack welds. The plate is clamped to the work surface to hold everything tight.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7387/1...f3569f1b_b.jpg

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5517/1...a41f92f3_b.jpg

Here it is clamped in place and ready for a couple tacks. Notice the chamfer on both the bung and the hole...and little vasoline for anti-spatter.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3703/1...9a575de8_b.jpg

Tacked and then tool removed and tacks ground smooth.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5476/1...c10cf1c6_b.jpg

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5504/1...3846c582_b.jpg

AND THE MONEY SHOTS! Enjoy...let me know what you think.

Looks goo, I like your idea on this.

Personnally, I would reshape the angle iron bracket it bolts to so that it "hides" behind the outter bracket.

Like the truck and you have mad skills bro. I like what you did with the cowl panel gaps. I have never seen one that fit well and plan to do the same with mine. Keep it up.

Good idea! I'm going to consider this, just worried about compromising structural integrity. I'll at least round those corners to match. Thanks!

Agreed x2. You shouldn't compromise the strength w/the minimal clearancing needed to streamline the visual appearance of the 2 pieces stacked.

Speaking of Porterbuilt, I owe the following rear wheel tub mod how-to to him. Thanks for posting those pics in the Old Aux thread Nate!

do you know how many inches is it from the bottom of the tub to your first line.
