Today, I installed the rear door pillar. The floor pan section. Boy what a job the floor was. I cut the floor out before I got the panel and it was to large. A lesson learned. Don't cut the section out before you have the panels. So I had to add some metal to the front and rear of the panel. The pillar went on without a hitch. I went to harbor Frieght the other day and I picked up the wrong cutting wheels. So tomorrow I will have to buy them local. They are the same price but they seem to last longer.

I cut cab in half before other cab section was present.:dohh:

The floor section took me about 6 hours. I don't want to do that any more. It was a bear. My own fault anyway it is done.
Then I wire wheeled the pass bed side and the core support.

Tomorrow I will maybe sand blast them and paint the core support black. and prime the bed side.

Thanks, I learned something on the floor. Don't cut untill you get the panels. I did and it was to small for the hole I cut. I had to add some on two sides.

Tomorrow I will be going to Tampa and pick up the rest of the shorty bed. The guy that sold it to me was felling bad the day I bought it from him. So I don't mind travling to score a good part.

Well, I counted my chickens before they hatched about the door. I took it apart and when I took the mirrow off it was really rusty under neath. So I am going to have to patch the rust out. But still it is in great shape. For 50.00

Well, I got back from Tampa today. I am gad I don't live there. The traffic is murder. Got the rst of my parts forthe stepside shorty.

2 steps
1 front panel
1cross member or bed rail
2 step braces or supports.

When the mail ran yesterday I was supprised to find my radiator core support mounting hardware there.I figured I would have to call Dennis again, but he was Johnny on the spot.

After I returned from tampa. I took the door apart and found under the mirrow was rusty with two or three holes in the door. But I guess General motors don't put gasket under there.

There are gaskets for the mirrors but they probably disintegrated over the last 40+ years.
The repair doesn't look like it will be too difficult.

The PO might not installed them after the repaint. Under the hingers well great no rust. anyway I will fix that small problem.

Well, today I cut out the bad spot where the mirror was. Welded it in and bondo and primed it. Going to wire wheel and sand blast it sometime this week. A cold snap is on the way here. It going to be in te 20's. Like man that is cold.

Seriously though stay away from body lines as much as possible they are the hardest to get right, if you notice the top body line isnt exactly sharp anymore.

I know what you mean. Today I went and looked at the body lines on the door. I did not like what I saw. So I did it all over again. From now on I am staying away from the body lines. It turned out a lot better today. My tooth was hurting and that is why it looked ok. So today was a different look. One good thing is the mirror. It will hide or it will draw attention. have to wait and see. I put a stright metal ruller on it and it does line up. Thanks for the imput. Yeah just remember if you have to apply bondo thicker than a Dime it's wrong and you need to straighten the metal some more.
On that repair in particular you cut out way more metal than you needed to repair the damage, remember to color inside the lines and remove as little metal as possible to fix the damage.

Yea I am putting the orignal mirrow back on. When I say orignal I mean the one that has the three holes in the door. I think they are orignal.

Well today I wire wheeled the door and tomorrow I will sand blast and prime it. The lines seem to be ok but I will have my brother-in-law fine tune the body work for me. But, I am real close.

Today, I did a ton of work. At least I think I did.

1 sand blasted the drivers door and primed it
2 sand blasted the step for the bed and it had two holes on the side I welded up and bondo and primed it also
3 sand blasted the drivers side bed side and primed it also
Now I have two doors that is ready for fine tuning on the body work.

Nice progress, you are getting there fast, at this rate it wont be long before you are driving that beast.
It might be an optical illusion but it looks like there is two pretty good size dents in the top rail of that bedside, you might want to take a look at an angle and see if you can see anything, hopefully there is no dents.
