A year ago I tried my spray gun for the first time. I sprayed Por-15 engine enamel. Got frustrated early, cleaned up the parts and declared I'd leave any spray gun business to the pros. Bet the paint was too thick. I thinned it, but probably not enough.
The enamel doesn't brush on most smooth surfaces with great success. I brushed the timing chain cover up nicely, but that's where it ended. Today I thought to try spraying again, only this time I met their 5/1 thinning max. In my novice opinion, it could have sprayed a bit heavier. I still didn't break out the gun, used a Preval instead:lol: I really should learn to use a spray gun. In hindsight I may sprayed all the Chevy Orange through a gun:chevy: All precautions spraying this stuff. Fans, open garage, good respirator....It's bad stuff, and lingers a while. On a side, anyone know where that J-hook goes on a 71 BBC, and what it's used for? I removed it 25 or so years ago, can't remember;) I know it was Chevy Orange from factory, and don't believe it was rubber coated. I can't check right now, but it looks to take a 3/8" bolt, or even a 7/16" bolt tightly. Seems it goes on a head someplace, maybe even a stud, like off a water pump or thermostat housing. |

New wheel cylinders on the rear picture is prior to replacement had a very slight leak on the right side so I'm replacing all of them.. Also replaced the bearings. Lightly packed them so they don't burn out before the gear oil gets to them. This is on my 68

Getting ready to put giant piece of plexiglass on top of camper after it ripped on highway back from Lawrence swap meet. Also getting back door figured out. Haven’t tig welded in 17 years and it was as rough as you’d expect. Wheel covers I picked up in hope of trading for some stainless dogdish caps for my shortbed.

Bed is stripped. Really liking the condition of this truck. Also I wire brushed a small area of the frame and a quick coat of black. Think I'm going to have the inside of the bed sand blasted and do the frame at the same time

.
Got her up on stands ready for an oil change and lube on the front end. It has taken a year for the control arm bushings to start singing after their first lube. Must have used the wrong stuff the first time after replacement of shafts and caps? I'm going to use the same stuff again cause it's what's in my gun LOL! Thinking of painting rotors too since it's up in the air and it's raining for the next few days. -klb |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Just finished installing a new water pump. Old one was quite wobbly. Thought I'd tackle it before it starts leaking or the fan decides to go thru my radiator.

Why would I do that ? Going for sand blasting and then paint. I'm going to have to redo this one right . So grumpy it just may happen full repaint.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
spent the last 2 days putting a clutch in mine. Yes, those of you who frequently do clutches probably could have done it in a few hours. We spent about 4 hours trying to get the old pilot bushing out, then had problems with the ball stud in the bell housing and the spring that clips it to the clutch fork. Had a good friend scrounge those parts up from stuff they had laying around at the house. Then didn't get the Hurst shifter stick back in correctly, and it took another hour or so to figure that simple fix out. The truck is back home with no passenger side exhaust as we took that apart to give us room, and didn't have replacement collector bolts or a gasket at 9:00 last night. That was an adventure to drive it with open exhaust! I'll button that up today and be completely done.
