Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just finished putting my rebuilt alternator back on the truck. It was a 37 amp and I took it to a local Mom and Pop Starter/Alternator Rebuild business and they bumped it up to a 55 amp which is good for me. They replaced everything inside so now I have an upgraded original alternator. Just what I want to do, retain original look of the ruck and doing upgrades.

Found a set of 73+ hubcaps on eBay, the pictures were poor (night time with the flash on) but they looked straight so I rolled the dice, $150. The showed up and were in great condition! Only a couple small dings and one had faded/missing black paint (seen below).
I purchased a table buffer from Harbor Freight ($35) and they polished up real nice! They aren't 100% perfect, but this way, I won't be too mad when they get ripped off haha. |

I purchased a table buffer from Harbor Freight ($35) and they polished up real nice! It was very time consuming and they aren't 100% perfect, but this way, I won't be too mad when they get ripped off haha. This was the first time I've polished and painted hubcaps so I started off with the one that was in the worst shape, pretty happy with how it turned out and I learned a lot about the masking process, I'm hoping the 3 left to do that are in much better condition will turn out even better. I used Krylon True Blue Gloss for the bowtie. A very fun (test of patience) and rewarding weekend project. |

I see some of you are getting bullied by Photobucket's new "pay to display" policy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Those of you who are now having problems with photobucket... I suggest switching to imgur. It is pretty user friendly.
As for my truck, today I continued with the suspension build. All of my front control arms have been power washed and bead blasted so they are ready for powder coat. I mocked up my rear Hotchkis sway bar and marked where I need to weld the tabs to my trailing arms. Tonight I want to try to power wash my trailing arms so I can stitch weld them, weld the sway bar mounts, and push in the sleeves for spherical bushings. After that hopefully I can get almost the whole suspension out for coating then install it. |

Flickr is another option. I use it.

I did a little work on mine. I worked on putting more miles on it. Lol. I had to swing by Wally World & decided to park in the shade. Next year, I'll have A/C.

I have been busy the last few days. Finished installing my new front springs. Someone had used blocks in the front to raise it 1.5 inches so I needed to get rid of them. Went with Tuff Country EZ-Ride 2”lift. Changed the fluid in my front differential and painted the cover. Did a driveway alignment using a method I read about in Skinned Knuckles. I had tried doing one last year with string, but it obviously didn’t work out so well because I found that toe was out 1/2 inch!!
I am a long way from replacing sheet metal so I riveted in a patch to cover a hole in my floor to get it ready for state inspection. Also painted my front emblem. I hope to get it inspected next week! |

Pulled the exhaust and probably won't use any of it. Though I'm hoping for a rear hanger, just in case :chevy:

Put in new bed wood. I used pressure treated southern yellow pine boards. I had a hard time finding boards that were wide enough. Had to by 1 x 10 x 16' boards from a dock supply place. Painted both sides with POR15 and finished the tops with Rustoleum Hunter Green. I used the dimensions from the GMC Paul website, and the boards don't seem wide enough. the gaps between them are very wide. Looks good though, definitely better than it was before. I used gloss paint, probably should have gone with Satin.
Still have to bolt down the bed, and tighten up the 4553 bolts that are in it.:waah: |
Bed Wood
The gaps are supposed to be very wide so the wood can swell in the rain.....
Look nice to me in green . |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Spent the day angle lifting the bed on my daily driver...
2006 Silverado,,,new fuel pump, charcoal canister and fuel vent valve system... Could not believe the amount of CRUD on top of the fuel pump unit....what genius decided to put the pump there???? Removed the four drivers side bolts, loosened the four passenger bolts, tailgate off, drivers side tail lamp wire plug and used my gantry lift to lift the drivers die of the bed up about 18 inches...wood blocks as safety pins... Needed to replace the metal frame the charcoal canister sits in...GM wants $ 118...for a piece of sheet metal...yeah right.... 30 minutes with the sheet brake and its as good as new...painted it up with Bed Liner...Sweet... Now back to working on my 67 long bed...a real truck...:chevy::chevy::chevy: |

Pulled the front drive shaft and replaced the front axle pinion seal. Removed the u-joints from the drive shaft. Tomorrow after work shall be clean, reassembly and reinstallation.
Thanks to GM that the high hump is bolted in. Removing that made it a LOT easier to get at the bolts attaching the driveshaft to the transfer case yoke. Certainly easier than dropping the crossmember. |
