Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I did them myself, they are 18" Centerline smoothies.
Instead of paint or powder coat I had a sign shop cut them out of white bus wrap and apply them to the wheels. Very durable and if they need to be changed or repaired they come off with a heat gun. Anything that can be printed on a large format printer could be printed on the material before applying to the wheel. I also had them apply a clear anti graffiti laminate over top of the white for extra protection. I plan on attaching the stock GMC hub caps much like what Delmo does.

That washer bottle looks like it was designed for our trucks. Great job on the whole install.

I used a Ford truck washer/radiator overflow tank out of a truck, used the squirter nozzels out of that same truck and picked up a used 64 - 66 Chevy truck 2 SPD wiper washer switch off eRape. I used the factory dimples in the firewall to drill my holes for my squirter nozzels, I removed the cowl and had to clearance (cut) out a little slice of lip that the cowl covers anyway. I also had to readjust the squirt nozzels using a 1/4" box end wrench to get the nozzels to squirt the proper height and to shoot between the vent slats in the cowl. I ran a fused hot to the pump - the washer pump switch completes the ground activating the pump. The hardest part of the whole process was adjusting the nozzels. A very slight tweek goes a long way. I'm happy & my wife's happy it was a win - win day for me.

64shortbox,

What year did that washer/overflow come out of?

Does it have the pump built in for the washer?

Thanks,
Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Saturday AM was Radiator Replacement Day for the 66 Ratburb.

I had the (presumably) original radiator redone back in 2009.
And then used a half-bottle of Bars Leaks about 6 months ago to deal with a pinhole in the fins.

But I was losing confidence, based on the green fluid around the cap of late.

So here is my email to the vendor from Sunday afternoon:

"I received the radiator Friday PM as indicated on the tracking status. Quick delivery- thank you.

When I saw the box in the light this morning... I was a bit surprised to see the wear-and-tear holes in the box.

The box had either suffered a fairly severe shipping trip, or had been moved in storage quite a few times.

But I didn't think about it too much.

...until the install was finished. The lower hose dripped water steadily despite 2 retries on the lower hose clamp.

Upon further investigation I realized that the lower outlet had been dinged enough times during shipping that the weld around it had failed.

In fact, the outlet tube is not quite perpendicular any more."

I think I will find a new radiator at my door this afternoon when I get home...
they said I could keep the damaged one.

Pre-assembly of the engine is finally underway.. hoping for it to be in the truck by the fourth.
And yes, we're building an engine in the dining-room. LOL

Big thankyou to the guys who helped us solve our surface-rust issues.. lol

or, we both have the same interests, i mean, I am the one taking the photos 'n posts it all, while he does the work ;) lol

The real reason we're doing it -- better light than the garage & the two of us are in a mostly empty 6-bedroom house (long story), and we figure we may as well use the space. . lol

Well I know I can't build an engine in my house, but any spot is a great one.

New 5 speed is in & the retro Sun tach is mounted :metal:. Eventually the tach will go where the stock tach would have been if my truck was so equipped. The T5 is such a huge improvement over the 3 on the tree.

I talked to my tranny contact today, he has found me an S10 T5, and is giving it a once over to make sure it is tip top, I am excited!!!

Your install looks outstanding!

yup, 3spd, hurst floor shift (originally column though), shift linkage gets jammed every once in a while if I don't treat it the right way (must be a female shifter), have to get out, crawl under and pop it into neutral, hasn't happened at a traffic light yet, but I am sure it will.

i have the cardbord black sun visors and i wanted them to match the interior better.

the main portion i used Krylon Brushed Metallic satin Champagne Nouveau (Fawn) and for the border stiched area i used Krylon satin Ivory. i used the same cans of paint to do my door panels a couple weeks ago.

hahaha that brings back bad memories. I've had several 1st gen blazers & in one of the I had a hurst 3 speed shifter that would bind at the worst times. It happened at several stop lights. people get really annoyed waiting while you crawl under & fiddle with your tranny.

What an unbelievable improvement. I can't believe that sun visor is painted. It looks like freshly sewn Naugahyde now. Nice color combination too.

I bought new arms and blades from Chevy Duty (Classicparts) but didn't like them. They provide 12" blades, but 13" blades fit better. Also the new reproduction arms have very few splines inside (compared to originals) on the socket end that fit over the transmission towers. This minimizes the ability to adjust where the arms sit when parked on the windshield, meaning one of them always sticks up and looks crooked. It took me a while, but I eventually found all NOS stuff on Ebay and it fits perfectly and the blades park flat, directly above the lower windshield gasket.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Thanks, Mark! That's good info (as always). Looks like I'll have to get some re-pops, at least temporarily, and keep trolling CL and ebay until some NOS arms come available. I'm tired of worrying about getting caught in the rain w/out wipers.

A little side project I've been working on. Cutting down a bench seat into a bucket seat. I'm trying to get the look of bucket seats that could have been an option if GM had decided to offer a bucket seat option, somewhat like the passenger seat in the subs but a little wider. I think I've got it. Keep in mind that this is just a first try with a seat that has some broken springs on the driver side and I just tacked it together. The third pic is set in the cab to show the fit. What do you think?
What I really need now is another standard full bench seat frame and a seat frame bottom or the drivers side of a bottom that have good springs so I can build a passenger seat and repair the springs on this seat. If anyone locally has these they can part with cheap, please let me know.

Picked up a hidden type hitch, was going to mount it today, but the exhaust will need to be moved. I was quite surprised that I could order a hitch that would bolt right in. Two of the three holes needed on each side of the frame are already there, so once I get the exhaust moved, it will be a quick install.
