Mine had the same disease. (I have an aftermarket core support, which might be the problem.) I notched the pads that the core support sits on with a die grinder. I don't even remember having cage nuts, so they must have disappeared years ago.

It's looking great! Every minute that you spend on fitment now will save you 10 cuss words at final assembly!

Don't laugh, I've seen professional body shops do the same thing. Do you still have the same roof in the truck today?

Today I made a trip into town for some matching black vinyl to cover my door cards. Picked up some DAP Weldwood Contact Adhesive spray too.

Nope, sold that cab about 30 years ago when I tore the truck apart. Sure wish I hadn't done that, I could be driving it all these years. :(

This time I gas welded it as well but with the 45 years experience it came out a LOT better, almost zero warpage. A skim coat of filler and she will be done.

I got one door panel finished today. Just cheap vinyl glued over cardboard. I punched holes for the door pulls; arm rests are too expensive so I'll probably just use some pull straps.

Took my truck to a vintage trailer rally over the weekend. There were 148 trailers and some cool tow rigs including this ‘51 Suburban

Really cool! Was that at Champoeg Park? Do you have any more pics?

That rally was at Pioneer park in Brownsville, it’s called Rally on the river. I didn’t take many photos but there were some amazing trailers there including this Airfloat that was built not restored by a man in his 80s. It had wood inlay everywhere. The owner of the 36 foot Spartan had trouble with the reflection melting his tent and outdoor rug.

There are quite a few trailer rallies in Oregon and most have an “open house” where the public can come see all the trailers. I think the All American Rally in Brooks and this rally in Brownsville are the largest.

Never done this before, I am paying someone to prime my parts. I am just burnt out, moving, packing, crazy burnt out and this took a LOT of weight off me. Just the bed, the brand new bed so it's a sand and prime. But it takes a bunch of time with the detail sanding needed and just work, this took a lot of weight off me that I really needed. I am watching them across the lot in the paint shop right now.

Are they priming in Idaho or in California? Just curious as to how far you are along with the move...

Here, going to bolt the bed all together on the truck then trailer it there ready for the body work on the cab and front end, doors are done.

Bob, I haven't moved a single thing, that will happen next month. But I am packing, packing, packing and dealing with SOOOO much stuff.

I have to say though, I went out to dinner the other night with some friends who are Indian. They told me about their move, three times in India moving to different cities many hundreds of miles apart, then moving to New Jersey in America for a few years then coming out here to the SF bay area. I looked over at my wife and said "They must have yawned when we said we were stressed out moving to Idaho," they laughed. Yep, we can do it!

OK. So you've got most of it ahead of you. It's just like building a truck. (Well, not really...) One step at a time!

Your friends covered many miles, but I bet they didn't drag around a bunch of truck parts, tools, materials, etc. !!!

Monday I received my cable pulling gel and Tuesday I finished getting the passenger door windlace installed. I'll likely tackle the driver's side Thursday or Friday. I also received my LED H4 headlights Monday. I only had a little bit of time before leaving for work today, I got one installed. I also added sound deadener to the passenger side door (I did driver's door last week, boy does that make a difference in sound when closing the door!)

Yesterday (Tuesday) I bit the bullet early in the morning and purchased my polished Flaming River steering column - $600 bucks. No more than two hours later I got a call from a local guy on CL who is selling steering columns, says he thinks the chrome or polished one he has is an Ididit column. He wants $100. I might buy it anyway, at that price, if it is what he says it is.

Ordered new 6.5" speakers for the doors today. I don't have a stereo installed yet, but the more immediate intent is to fill the gaping speaker holes in each door, they're ugly without something in there.

Eventually I will have carpet ordered. The bare metal floor really needs sound dampener but I'm not installing that until I have carpet so I can cover it up.

I also ordered new wiper blade refills from a guy on eBay. They're NOS because I couldn't find new blades that will work with my screw-in type of arms.

Hey, you can't do it all. Sometimes my wife asks me, "Are you going to smelt the steel too?" ;) Kinda puts "build it yourself" all in perspective.

I've done most everything on my truck, but I did pay my mechanic to swap the front coil springs and replace the rear axle seals. I'd have been working under the truck for days; he's got a lift and did it in an afternoon. Best money I ever spent.

And it's one of two at the shop!

Today before I took off for home I got the bed assembly started, looking good! My hinges came in the mail today so I will get out to the garage and blast them and prime them so I can put the tail gate on the bed.

I wanted to add a little bling so I mounted the V8 emblem today. Nothing major, just a little something
