Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I had Alberta plating quote. They wanted $600 to chrome it. I can get a repop for a third of the price....This is my dilemma... Too bad they chard so much to dip it in chrome. I will likely have to go with an LMC repop...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just got in from working on the truck.
1). Removed thermostat, going to clean it up and test it....it may not be stuck. 2). Cleaned the old gasket from the water neck. 3). Cleaned out the water neck a bit and even vacuumed the area inside. 4). Figured out what fittings are needed to use the water hose to flush out the water jacket. |

Re: P.S. Hose Service
Thanks Nate for the advise! Just received a new pressure line from Summit and it has male fittings on both ends--the one I removed has a female fitting on the pump end. I searched around and found GATES #14158-05283370 has a female end for the male pressure port on the pump. Might check NAPA. SUMMIT only listed one for 69-70 K/10--I wonder if I might have a 68 pump or one from a car or if EDELMANN hoses made in MEXICO installed the wrong fitting. Thanks for the filter idea.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Before anything else look at the pictures of P.S. hoses on Rockauto.com to see of mayhap they sent you the wrong one ~ it happens, I have the decades of stories to back that up .
I have worked on an old truck once or twice . I forget where I bought the new P.S. hose for my '69 C.10, maybe NAPA ? they too will have a picture but usually only _one_ to choose from . Filters are always a good idea on older rigs ~ I retain them as I flush any system until the ATF remains translucent and sweet smelling, then I discard them . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I just found the NAPA filter, think I will get one-good idea! Happy Trails

Still on lwb to swb project. Only have a few hours each day. 72 frames are a little different so there where some questions that needed answered, Jamie at Brothers took care of that and now should be able to go back together as soon as I get the rear frame cleaned and painted

Nothing,
Camshaft received broken from Summit (ship to France) no bubble wrap at all, I am curious how it can be possible to gamble at that point. Anyway, after a quick chat, they’ve sent me a new one |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I bought more hoses and figured out how I am going (I think) to fix my radiator hose problem long term and get the engine running short term.

It's good to know they're available again . FWIW, yours would have been white when new . I saved quite a few off 1970's vintage Police / Govt. vehicles but all were used over the years . |

VWNate1, I took Your advise and installed a P/S filter with the new pressure line. Had to remove inner fender to install the new line because of higher profile. Was easy once the inner fender was out of the way. Test run tomorrow! Thanks again for Your information!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I scraped the quarter inch thick layer of oily dirt off the front of the frame, sprayed it in simple green, then pressure washed it. Man what a disaster. It's a lot cleaner tho...

Hooked up last of the radiator hoses. Bought distilled water and concentrated antifreeze. Ordered a new gasket set. Installed gasket under water neck. Bought and installed new air filter.
Can you guess what I am about to do? :) |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I'd never really bothered to look, but I needed fuel this last weekend, and instead of using the regular non-leaded and stabil, I found a station a couple of miles away that vends super non-ethanol, 92 octane - so I know where I will be going from now on. Decided to throw in a can of Seafoam for stabilizer over the fall and winter, but I do start and warm it up every week or so - and on dry days take it for a spin..

....ahh, did my oil change....and added a little MMO in there.
Just nice to do in a way....and always good piece of mind knowing its clean again. Now......time to start getting ready to find a good 'paint' partner and bring some of the other parts of the truck up to scratch. Coley |

Installed new lowered leaf springs, shocks and shackles in the rear.
Forgot to hit all the bolts with PB Blaster before I started. Advil to the rescue. Get an old truck, they said. It will be fun to work on, they said. The rear sits about an inch and a half lower, but rides way better than it did on the old leafs (last owner pulled leafs to lower it). The front will be addressed with much attention this coming weekend. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/..._Side_VIew.jpg |

Passed " Taxachusetts " inspection early today! I never wait this long but just replaced power steering pressure line that let go at the inspection station a few days ago. The two guys inspecting had a lot of interest in the K/10 and shared some of their CHEVY stories. Made it a fun time. Just wondering if Your STATE INSPECTION stations are taking pictures of the odometer, vin and all four corners? Next thing will be a chip in all of us so they can track are movements.

Ordered a new radiator through ebay, went to an auto parts store and got a grease gun and hit all the fittings i could find on my drivers side. The three block squeak is gone! I'll still have to deal with small coolant puddles for another week or so.
