Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Well I haven't updated this thread with my dropmember purchase, so here goes. Back in December I got the bright idea to sell my sectioned crossmember and get a dropmember. So I had to pull the engine and trans to do so. While the trans was out, I sold that too! The money is going towards a Tremec TKO 600. I said to myself I'm building a hot rod, so why the hell do I have an automatic in here! It all felt like two steps backward, but I think the end result will be well worth it.
I got a flaming river power rack from Summit. All the dropmember pieces except the actual crossmember I powdercoated myself with an Eastwoods gun. That thing is awesome! So much better than dealing with paint that doesn't have he durability. I also went ahead and got a swaybar from Nate. The only thing that sucked about the whole deal was welding in the rack notches in an already powdercoated from. I took pictures of that but can find them. I felt like I was performing surgery! A couple other notes for the record, I had to cut 1.25 inches off the ends of the rack. I also had to mill down one side of the AirRide upper control arms shafts because they were dished for the factory washer spacer thingys. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4019/...81ebe8e1_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/...be96f9b6_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3317/...0141c31e_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/...3a701282_b.jpg In this picture you can see the notch surgery. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4014/...1c9f2c4a_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/...386ace37_b.jpg Factory 73-87 brake calipers http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/...06306159_b.jpg |

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
OK, back to the steering column. I wanted to make a reinforcement panel on the firewall where the column passes through. I gave me an excuse to use my REINFORCED harbor freight bead roller which is now a beast!

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Hey Jlaird.....The clamps you are using for your brake lines and air line.....made 4 you brand ???? How rough a time did you have bending up the lines, did you make patterns out of steel before you did the stainless ? Any problems flaring the stainless other than having to have a 37 degree flare tool ? Sorry if you have answered the questions elsewhere. Tryin to decide what to do with mine.....really like the way you have yours layed out, gonna steel some of your Ideas.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
OK, time to smooth out the dash where the dash pad used to go.
I cut these out of a piece of steel exhaust pipe because they had the same curve as the dash. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4065/...4388e10456.jpg Tacked in place. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/...6e476dd81e.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4047/...0e690596_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/...806d1078_b.jpg Ground smooth.
