Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Do you think maybe water is finding its way through the cowl into glove box? It sure is in close proximity there and we all know how well they like to rust out haha

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Hey Matt! Nice to see you're back on here. Sorry to hear about your power stroke.
It's possible the water was coming from the cowl area. Although, before I installed the A/C unit, I couldn't find anything that would suggest water was coming in from a specific location. The only thing in the general area, that I noticed, was the antenna hole (still open). I guess it could have been coming in from the windshield gasket, then dripping down the dash. |

Keep us updated on finding the leak, I hope yours is an easy fix. I didn't see any rust holes under the cowl when checking mine out, but maybe I missed something. I'll be keeping a rag under the seat for when it rains and when I wash it for a while. BTW - your AC setup is sweet, it's really motivating me to get mine up and running!! |
Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Thanks for the info. I've never seen any water in the glove box, or inside at all any other time than when I drove it during a HEAVY downpour. My brother in law drove it in the rain once and noticed water dripping from the top of the windshield seal (nothing in the glove box), but that was at highway speeds so it could have pushed up under the seal and dripped in. I'm thinking it's probably from the windshield seal somewhere. I guess I could always have the wife spray different areas with a garden hose to see if I can find where it's coming from. I can't see rust anywhere, inside or out, but that doesn't mean I don't have a hole somewhere that I don't know of. If I ever find it, I'll post it up.
Thanks for the compliment. I'm hoping to finish up the A/C this weekend and get it charged next week. |
Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
The grille came last Wednesday...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...psc69e460c.jpg It was packaged really well. It had wood bracing along the top and bottom length of the box. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...psb387a298.jpg Even had foam on the ends and a bunch of bubble wrap (foam, then small bubble, then large bubble wrapped around the entire grille.) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps2fe7c7c5.jpg Sorry for the dark pictures, but here's the grille http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps6a1d7d20.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...psa925238b.jpg With the new emblem resting in place http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps2da8673d.jpg Still working on how I'm going to mount the emblem, but I think I have it figured out. Just need to get some pieces cut and bent/drilled, then mount it. I'll take some pics of it later. Getting the A/C charged on Wednesday at a local hot rod shop, and having them cut the trailing arm cross member for exhaust pass through so I can extend the exhaust toward the back some more (to be done later). |
Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Really like how you are keeping the Chevy emblem. I think it is one of the most under appreciated parts of these trucks. Which shop are you going to if I may ask?

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
South Coast Rides on SH36 in Rosenberg. Been dealing with them for a few years now. I've had them do a few things for my GTO. I do most things myself, but if I don't have the tools or the time to do something, I'll try them first. I'd trust a rod shop over a chain for an a/c charge on my classics any day.

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Dropped it off at the shop this morning. Getting the A/C charged (hopefully there aren't any leaks) and having the holes cut for the exhaust to pass through the trailing arm cross member.

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Congrats on the new grill, cold air soon :metal:

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Thanks Mike, I can't wait for the cold air! I may not see the truck much after that though. The wife has already told me she will be driving it more now.

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
It's charged and she runs coooooool! I need to get the glove box in, and reinstall the stereo, then the grille, and she'll be on the road again!

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Grats bud, I know its nice to have that A/C. Mine probably wont have it for another year or so, but I'm still in the Frame part of my build

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Thanks guys!
I took the time this evening to finish installing the bow tie in the grille. I used 3/4" plywood end cap, made of aluminum. I cut two pieces down to fit inside the emblem, carefully measured and drilled for the factory studs, then used push on nuts to hold the channels to the emblem. I drilled a hole for a bolt on the opposite end of each channel. I also cut two more smaller pieces for the back side of the grille and drilled holes in them so I could sandwich the front and back pieces around the grille bars. This pic of the back should help with the explanation... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...pse55bf344.jpg I used 1/4-20 bolts, lock washers and nuts, tightened them down and added a nyloc nut as a jam nut. Shouldn't go anywhere. This is the front piece. Notice the v-cut... I did this to bend the channel to match the angle of the grille. This isn't completely tightened down yet. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps7c0dc1f3.jpg Here's a view from the top... Flush! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps19c906fd.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ps4bc32e73.jpg I'm pretty happy with it. This will be easier to take off if I need to. |
Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10
Very nice work Duane. Never understood how they attached those but looks like you have a good solid way of doing it.

Minor update... Sorry no pics :waah: I started to install the new chrome grille last night. I tried to keep the bumper on, but finally had to just pull it off. Couldn't get everything lined up with it on. It turns out, the passenger side was trying to share space with the lower fender. I'm not sure if the lower fender had been replaced, but it didn't have the same curve as the drivers side. I had to beat on it a bit, as well as the new grille, to get them to sit nicely next to each other. Go figure... aftermarket parts, right? So between that, and the aftermarket side brackets I've got, the lower rivet holes don't line up. I'm having to get longer rivets for one side (after tweaking the bracket to make the holes line up). I still need to check the other side and probably make adjustments to it too. |
