https://41.media.tumblr.com/b8fc0488...o83ko1_540.png BUT - I have my filler mocked up there right now and it was a royal pain in the arse to fuel up, so I am now thinking I will just put the filler in the bed floor. So much for being original eh? Jake |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I mounted my tank on the bottom of the frame and I'm going to either drill thru,or notch out the bottom of the rear sill. Doesn't look there will be any issue with the angle of the filler.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
This post is a duplicate of what I just posted on my own thread. I do that to keep all my stuff together but posting here so if anyone is interested they'll find it:
Took the day off today. I think I caught a case of "anal glaucoma" - I couldn't see my a$$ going to work today! Decided to do a little project I've been putting off.... painting the white on some nice original side badges I bought from a guy in NY. They were rechromed at some point and I n doing it they lost a lot of the lower edge of the smaller letters in "Chevrolet" but I don't mind. Basically, I just masked the large details as well as I could, and used Duplicolor touch up paint, both primer/filler and bright white top coat. The small brush that comes with the paint is good enough to follow the edges of the small letters; though they've lost some definition. Anyway, here's my progress so far: http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...psv5r0kz0e.jpg And the other end: http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...pswn5ivcqc.jpg Here's the mateirals I'm using. No prep - didn't want to scratch the good chrome. We'll see if this turns out to be a mistake or not. http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...psckn2m9wz.jpg |

Finally had its first bath since last summer lol Put a manual rack in it to drive it while I wait on the power rack. Not very easy to drive with manual lol The '46 is easier to drive as a manual.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Just dropped mine off with a guy that's gonna rebuild the TH350. It had developed a bad leak and I know nothing about the history of the tranny so figured I may as well bite the bullet for a full rebuild. Also having him install a used Lokar floor shifter I found on Craigslist and hook up the speedometer cable.
I'd recently rebuilt the carb but hadn't adjusted anything, just plopped it on there and took it to the guy. Hopefully it'll idle down nicely and run better without leaving a big red stain the on the driveway anymore. |

Brought home the donor S10 w/ 5.7L and 700r.
All body panels stripped down to bare metal and primed (except bed) Have a buyer coming for the original chassis and once its gone I will pull the donor around back and strip the body off and begin the build. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/y...psl4h3tamp.jpg |

Finished the new frame C notches, rechecked level and checked again for square. It's bang on! Been a ton of work getting to this point as the frame was tweaked.

Took out the dash gauges, put a pair of new hinges on drivers door, still need to do passenger side.
Removed the wiring from the cab in anticipation to new wiring from American autowire. |

Working on making new door panels and then came the little brown truck with a package. It took 8 months to get these but it was worth it.:bann:

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Not just what I have done today, but I thought it would be time for an update.
Picture of what the truck looked like when I bought it last August. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8e953ed0.jpg Now after finding a different frame to put under it, changing it from 4WD back to 2WD, changint the engine, transmission, all suspension and lowering 5 inches front and back. Just mocked up the cab and bed and setting the fenders and hood back in place. I am liking the look of this truck again. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...psaq07dj8s.jpg |

[QUOTE=MARTINSR;7129896]Interesting!
I was kind of convinced of this swap a couple years ago. It's taken me awhile to get around to doing anything. Mainly I had to get rid of the 235. Well the 235 left my garage about 2:30 Saturday and by 4:00 I wedged everything in there. (Literally, I wedged it in. I can show you the Gorilla bar later.) I'm liking how it's fitting. I'm going to have to notch the front crossmember slightly. If I had a GMC, I don't think I would need to notch anything at all since the crossmember is lower. The upper coolant outlet on the engine is going to have to be modified. Not to mention the oil pan is going to have to be notched and oil pickup modified to clear the solid axle. All in all, it's a pretty straight forward swap. I'm going to cut out the old rear engine crossmember though. It doesn't really need to come out, but if I would ever need to work on the transmission, I would have to blow apart the frontend and remove the Engine/Trans. all in one. I think I'll weld some flanges on the crossmember so it can be reinstalled though, since it is a structural component to the frame. I hate saying this, but the 5 cylinder from the Colorado/Canyon would be a much easier swap. Almost a direct drop in. Rear sump oil pan, and 4 inches shorter would make a world of difference. Chris |

Forgodsake, though, please document this and make a build thread. It is just too cool to go unnoticed. |
