Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

great info and good news... mine also has a 9" tail shaft. i will still need a new drive shaft because mine is kinda hammered from the stock rear taking a dump and u-joint broke but at least i'll have know what to get and that it will work.

i'll just have to follow my instruction manual "FRED"!

At the very least it makes finding a bone yard drive shaft easier.

:D

I got an email from Hannah this morning, the PCM and harness shipped out yesterday. Should have it Tuesday.

Things will probably slow down for a little while. I have a fire truck to work on this weekend, then I need to do oil changes and other regular maintenance on my car and my wife's Trailblazer. I also need to put a new carb on Dad's 69 so I can get it out of my place and take it to his new shop. My wife's Harley won't run (go figure!!) so I need to figure that out. Lot's of other stuff I've been putting off for too long. Besides, my new budget money isn't here until the first of next month, so I have to wait anyhow!

I'll try to go through the Burb rear end in the next week or two and get that swapped out. I also want to pull the front cross member out of the Burb to rebuild for Fred, and in the mean time I'll throw in one of the 67-72 cross members I have just so I can roll it out of the shop. I want that bay back!!

 he made pretty quick work of that harness!:metal:

you have quite a list for the weekend! at least you have stuff to keep you occupied until the budget refills. are the gears in the burb 3.73's? those are what i have... rear came out of a 86 burb 10 bolt. hopefully it will last a while. still kick myself for junking the original 12 bolt!

I was really figuring your post for Monday was that teh truck was running, and knocked down 30 MPG averaged over the first 4 tanks. Maybe next week.....

Maybe by the end of next week :D

Dennis, the burb had 3.42's. Which is exactly what I wanted to put in Fred anyhow since for now, my goal is more mileage and driveability oriented, rather than power. Which explains the stock 5.3/4L60E combo, 3.42 gears, Jesse's "mileage tune", and E85. Actually, the E85 has nothing to do with mileage, that's more just for the hell of it!

But then later on, when I quit caring about mileage.... look out!

:haha: this really had me rolling!! because it sounds so true!!

dang... i'm still cracking up!

3.42's will be perfect for mileage w/ the overdrive. what is the goal for mpg? your monthly gas bill will probably be cut almost in half with the e85 and everything else.

20-22, which should be easy. My supercharged 03 did 19-20mpg, it had 3.73's and was a heavier truck than this one.

Powerball = lottery

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Lottery = the government's tax on the poor. I don't play those games.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

do you still have the sc??

bet that baby moved out! how much heavier are the new trucks?

I wish I still had it. I took it off and sold it when I sold the truck. :banghead:

I'm not sure what the 03 ECSB weighed. My 02 1500HD is 6180# though with no one in it.

Also, the 03 had 255/70-16's which are 28.5" diameter. The 275/60-15's that are on Fred are 28". So......

My gearing calculator says:

255/70-16 with 3.73's = 2250rpm @ 77mph
275/60-15 with 3.42's = 2250rpm @ 78mph

:D

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Found it. Curb weight for the 03 ECSB 2wd was 4925#. Fred is 4004# with a tank and a half of fuel, and no one inside. I don't know what the 5.3 weighs, but I imagine it's a little less than the 350. And I don't know how the TH350C and the 4L60E compare.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

that will be some good mileage then. the goat sits right at 2000rpm at 75mph and averages 21-25mpg give or take.

man, that supercharger looks right at home in there! just imagine the fire wall fred red!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

5.3 iron block w/ aluminum head is 100-150#'s lighter i think.

thats a 1000# lighter! was the ecsb pretty quick? just think of that minus a 1000 pounds.

Hmmm, 1000# is a full second off in the 1/4 mile......

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

well lets figure this out then... how quick did the ecsb get down the 1/4?

glock35ipsc 08-21-2009 11:11 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Unfortunately, I never ran it. I can only guess low 15's maybe? Our track is at 5800' elevation too. I'm getting the urge to go back, I haven't pulled the front tires off the ground since 1992!!!
