Great progress and nice repair work! Love the humor throughout also ;) congrats on the impending lack of sleep/bundle of joy coming and the last picture has to be the most expensive item you've purchased for the build....did you buy the whole box on ebay for $1500 or just that one packaage?

Thanks Jonathan, Yes I am a little silly at times. Thanks we cant wait! Probably take a few weeks off work to help with the "lack of sleep issues" so I can sleep during the day, worked out good with the first one. I payed normal retail for the Twinkies just happen to find them at a gas station when out hunting maybe I should have sold them on ebay and bought some tires:lol:. I bought 3 packages and ate half after the lady ate half of them. I will miss the twinkies;) I think the Boyds efi tank is the biggest $ item here so far.

Here is my update: Ate lots of turkey, ham and stuffing. No egg nog yet.
finshed busting the crud on the alxe, oven cleaner does a nice job of breaking down the goo. Blasted the backing plates and hard to reach areas and hosed it with some Tractor Supply tractor/implement paint. Looks nice clean and shiny!

Thanks Jim!

Another small update, working my spring retainers. The bolts broke off in the weld nuts so I cut the corners with a dremel and knocked them off with a hammer. Welded new nuts on all 4 retainers. And a few other parts I blasted at work. Motor mount stands and parking brake cable brackets. Too cold to paint them now.

I can see the up grade on the spring holders. Mine did not have the nuts only a hole. I did not thing of welding nuts like you did . I used a long bolt and lock washer and nut.

I wish I was as meticulous as you are with your build. I get to impatient.
I'm going to assemble my engine Christmas weekend, I'll swing by sometime within the week to borrow those tools.

Thanks, I wonder why they had them welded on one end and not the other. After fighting getting them off I though this would be a good idea.

Thanks, I love the fancy welding job you did on your axle tubes, now that was slick.

Thanks, I love your project. All the fancy race car parts and the 4ott setup still blows my mind. You definitely think outside the mail order catalog.

Cool brother, I think lack of money breeds patience and meticulousness :uhmk: I try to do the best I can with what I have. Good thing I have you so I can recycle your old stock parts ;)

Not sure, I just did as I do from my macbook. submit reply>manage attachments> my photo album opened up and I selected the photo and it worked. maybe dumb luck. Kind of a pain to navigate on that tiny little screen. Another thing I have the Iphone4 (because i'm cheap and it was free) its camera is a 5 megapixel while the Iphone5 has an 8 megapixel camera so the file size may have something to do with it. I love your new project!!

Update with pics coming right up!

I painted all the overlapping surfaces with flat black and torqued the front suspension crossmember and trans crossmember to the frame. I used the assembly manual and it says 55-75 lbs ft so Itorqued them to 70 lb ft. I could not find anything for the trans crossmember and the bolts included by GMC Pauls are grade 5 so I left them at 40 lb ft untill I find some other specs.

First coat of paint. I am going to repaint the front crossmember gloss like the rest but I did not paint in front of it or the rear past the shock crossmember because I have more welding to do....

Second coat. This is Tractor Supply farm and implement paint, alkyd enamel. Thick, hard, and shiny! Had my frame been in better shape and if I had fixed all the little problems before I would have much rather had it powdercoated, live and learn. It was getting dark so the pics are pretty poor as far as the lighting goes.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

I also cut the rivets for the pan hard (or track bar, what ever you want to call it), the shock mounts, and the front cross member so I can mount my sway bar brackets and I managed to fubar that job so the crossmember will be coming out so I can remove whats left of the rivets. I will be opening boxes of NEW parts very soon and ordering some more, next order will be a tracking bar from Porterbuilt :metal:

Mmmmm Both, Originally I started with rolling and brushing with matte black then decided I liked the gloss better. I was going to use my spray gun but researched the paints msds and could not find any chemical difference in spray can vs quarts so I did the gloss in spray cans (convenience issue;)). The front suspension crossmember is 100% brush/roller. it does level out well, not quite as good as POR15 but it does level and takes quite a while to dry. You can tell it is different when the gloss dries it looks and feels like POR, you can tell how thick and hard it is not at all like regular rattle can paint. I can get a pic of the part I rolled tomorrow in the sun if you like.
