OK guys I owe you some pics of the body work. But the past weekend and week, we are trying to start the motor after 3 years of sitting. Prelubed the engine and started the wiring and placed the cab back on the chassis. To start the cab wiring and cutoff switches and ignition switch. fuel pump, transmission filled and connected and torqued. Drive shaft in!

How do I post a short video?(in detail!):metal:

That's a great idea on the block. Mine sat that long and I just cranked it over with no fuel or spark until I got got oil up top. You idea is better. LS engines aren't as easy to prelube as a SBC but I still like them better!

I just came in from the garage(8pm) and I forgot to take pics of the preluber. All that wiring took a lot of time. 2 more wires to figure out, a manifold, o2 sensor and jack the rearend and block, then its time to fire off. If the vat was removed.

Here is my preluber to help thous who's projects got delay doto life getting in the way. You could get fancy an use AN style fittings but why spend money needlessly, unless you are a engine builder. I went though the trouble of welding a AN fitting to a 12mm x1.5 thread to attach a hose to drain back to the bucket. A waste of time, the hole was to small, so slow return. Cut hole in lid bigger and just pull the drain plug. I searched high and low for a oil pump from my friends. To my behold 2 days later there was a pump in a baggy at my door(free). Now tap the top for a 1/4 npt. A bucket and lid About 6 bucks, 1/4 x 4" tube @1.50, 3/4od x 1/2id x 10ft @4.17 and 4 hose clamps. Oh and 2 pieces of scrape to reinforce the lid. I use sheet metal that was the body corners. When you put the tubing on use a heat gun the warm(not melt) so as to ease with sliding on of the tubing over the threads or cut the threads off. As you can see I have low cost and not much effort, you to can have a preluber.

Well!!! I love your plan. I have been collecting parts to do the same thing. I have two cabs, thinking it would be easier that way. Looks like an 8 inch stretch. Please keep posting pictures of this.

No, it's just 6". wish I could show some progress but clamping and squaring takes time.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Mike,
I thought I saw early in your build where you said you would like to stretch the cab. Did you and your dad stretch the frame, or will you cut the bed down to handle the stretch? The six inch stretch looks good. Can't wait to see updates!
Ricky

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

when we mocked the frame up we stretched it to 133", so I could keep the long bed an tighten the gap between the cab and front of the bed by 3/4".

Dad got his groove on today and made a sexy tool. You clamp it up with nuts and take it over to the press and wahla. Guess that's what happened 50 years ago before patch panels that don't fit came around.
