4-17 Been swamped lately. But if all goes well will have some cool stuff to report soon. I am getting that COE just waiting on shipping.
Boxed in most the rear frame. Mounted the fuel pump. I welded nuts to the backside of plates so the pump will bolt to the frame. I built the little skit plate thing just for a little extra security. I will have hardline routed for the fuel line. I then tossed bed on to check clearances and to start the fuel filler. I will have to either move my fuel tank xmembers or cut the xmember on the bed. Right now bed is too high and unlevel bc its hitting the fuel tank xmembers. I think I'll just section out the xmember on the bed as I want the fuel tank up as high as possible. Gotta get the sending unit and route the lines to make sure I got enough clearance. |

Good progress 99. And congrat's on getting the COE!

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
COE :metal: Extra protection for any install is a good thing as long as you can still work on the item when the truck is together.

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
Hey 99,
What size tubing and also what rubber bushings did you use for your motor mounts? Sorry if it has already been asked. Thanks |
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
no sweat. I got the bushings from thorbros, they are 2" OD I believe, came with bushings and sleeve. I then used about 3" tubing can't recall at the moment. 1/4 wall I do believe. I had to trim the edges of the bushings with a die grinder just a bit. If you make your own mount that bolts to the block, you could make it to size better. I used the stock mount and modified it, the width was just a tad bit tight.

Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
Thank you for the info. Do you have to TIG them? I only have a mig welder.
|
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
no mig is just fine. as long as you have atleast a 140 amp welder you should be fine. Id recommend tacking everything first real good. Then when you final weld get the bushings out if you can. Grease them up first so they come out easier. If you weld them while they are in, they start to melt a little bit. You can do it both ways, but the first way is best.
|
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
For sure take the bushings out first, if they start to melt or burn you can wreck them real fast.

Got so many irons in the fire right now. Dads been in ICU for a week, bought two trucks, shipper I had broke down so I had to wait for COE. He was cool enough to go right back out and grab my 49' "Farm Use" patina truck which I'm beyond thrilled to have. It is such a nice truck, few minor rotted areas to fix. Its up next right after I finish Geronimo. However.... Its going to be a simpler build using alot of stock stuff and an old school feel. Also have a pretty decent size garage a friend and I are in the middle of buying. Not that I want to run a commercial shop yet, but that option may arise at some point. My life is so crazy with work, family and juggling all this truck stuff, house projects at two locations blah blah. The COE is now back burnered. If I don't get on it after Farm Use, I'll prolly resell it or do some floor repair first then rehome it. |

I will start a thread for "FarmUse" soon. Here is the Geronimo update. Still dabbling with the firewall and now pass side cowl. I'll be coating some areas soon and seam sealing. Cab is coming off very soon so I can finish frame. Welded up gas tank hole and an antena hole. Decided to mount the MSD box on firewall. Fuel regulator will be relocated to inner fender or I'll make a bracket to bolt it to the head.
got the AC/heat bulk head in |

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Remember I can always take one of your projects off your hands if you need more room or $$$$. LOL.... Plus I still want an excuse to get some of your Coffee. |
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
sorry to hear about your dad, he is a fortunate father to have a thoughtful son.
is your shipper a local guy? I used a guy from meadville on my brothers recommendation. |
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
Funny how life is a balance, for me atleast. can't have too much good without bad. He has been sedated the whole time. They trying to get him off ventilator then they can see why the one part of heart stopped working. Big wake up call for him I hope and for me to cherish having a dad. best thing in the whole world to me is being a dad, I love it more than anything.
Desert57 I will be moving some stuff soon. as for coffee I can always ship it, or you can make a trip out my way sometime! joedoh, found shipper off uship he is all over the map. I'll def keep him mind for other stuff. Extremely reasonable on pricing. But... if you got a guy in meadville I'd love the contact. |
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
i'd send a pm but I am 99% sure it will bounce haha. maybe this year for christmas I will buy you a premium membership, probably worth it for all the tech you provide.
my brothers buddy is JC Transport, 814-547-8783. bob picked up my 49 on 3 days notice and delivered it 1500 miles in another 3 days, highly recommend. |
Re: "Geronimo" 54' 3100 LS built in PA
hahaah yah I need to bump up my membership!! i have some PM's available!!!
Thanks I'll get at them and see what they are all about. Heck I even find local stuff I just don't have time to go get. |

5-9 Chipping away at a lot of small things. Buttoning up inside of cab and firewall etc. One little thing that bothers me is the threaded bolts that stick outside of firewall that are the dash/steering column support. So I inverted that support to have carriage bolts on the outside. It flows alot better and will look better when its all painted. Got front part of cab all coated. I'll seam seal some stuff and coat rest of cab, then I'll lizard skin it all.
Ordered up some supplies, hoping to spray some epoxy very soon. |
