And the plane had this threaded hole in it

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
So I thought "why the heck not?". The light will come on with the headlights and the plane had a little groove on the bottom side so the wire can be hidden

That's a huge hood ornament. Very cool.

Looking good buddy! Reminds me of my old setup. 57 bel air hood ornament with turn signal tail fins on the sides. Sticking with that setup when my truck is done for sure. lol :chevy:

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Come summer holidays, I am tempted to bring you a truck for a winter project.

Loving this thread man, excellent work so far. My truck finally has the cab off and a friend is helping with the body work as I am not overly skilled with a welder. But I know what you mean with finding rust everywhere. That is what happened with mine and I basically have an all new floor now when it will be done.

Good work on the hood ornament so far.
It will always make you smile seeing it up front. Of course I do like them a lot, so I am a bit biased. |

Love the hood ornament Nik. It will make a nice custom touch.

Even though I already painted the shifter I decided to go a different direction, a piston shifter. I got a lawnmower engine for free but it had some bad knocking in the bottom end when I fired it up plus it burned blue. So I pulled the piston and rod then cleaned it up. Then I put a little spring behind the wrist pin to increase the tension so it won't wobble around when driving |
Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Cool! Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Crappy drawing, but remove the one bolt for the bearing sleevd and make a same size threaded end on your shifter rod.
Hope that makes sense |

I ended up getting rid of the bearing cap and making a piece to bolt on

Once it was bolted in place I then made little side covers out of plastic with a vinyl look to pretty things up and give it a cleaner look

And here's a pic of it all finished up and installed. Now all I need to do is find a way to put the shift pattern on the top of the piston
|
Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Leave it without the pattern. It confuses theives. ;)
Work looks good! |

You could probably have a sign (or wrap) shop create some kind of sticker for it.
or http://www.ebay.com/bhp/shift-pattern-decal |

huge thanks to very nice guy! Member bfoley was kind enough to offer and give me some old school cool era correct gauges for my truck. What I received was two autometer gages, a oil pressure and water temp that have a vintage look to them. And two super cool Stewart Warner gauges, a vaccum gauge and an ammeter. He also threw in a couple of sweet toggle switches. Thanks again Ben.

Haven't been able to get much done on the truck lately because of another project I've been Working on and I'm pretty deep into it, I thought I'd show you guys. Doing a full rebuild on my xr100 plus a big bore kit that will make it 120cc and also a new clutch, tires etc. I should have it all wrapped up in the next couple days and be able to get back on the truck.

Didn't get a whole ton done on the truck today but I did finish off the hood plane and I have to say she is real purdy.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Kool ornament. Looks like the center lines in the hood could be jet streams coming out of the back.

Got everything on the engine and engine bay all buttoned up and I'm confident it will run well this time. I just want to get the right tranny fluid before I run it anymore so it may be a few days. Oh and I managed to find a 60-62 v8 hydraulic clutch bellhousing that I'm picking up this weekend for a great deal just in case I ever want to go v8 in the future:chevy:

Hey Nik, did you ever figure out your intake leak problems?
