Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Chatham Dockyard with Medway Cruise again last night.
Martin and I always try to make this show as it is local at about 7 miles for both of us, and has such a selection and variety. Last night we went on the bikes as they are easier to get in and out of the area with. I also had to take my impact wrench "Rattle Gun" for Martin to use on some part of his engine that is resisting him right now. Thought I would post in your thread too as I took the pics. I am sadly seeing the demise of this awesome gathering, with it getting banned or moved as it is so oversubscribed and very badly managed in my non expert view....... It used to be a gathering that had up to 150 cars just gather, but last night there was just no rhyme nor reason for who could park where etc...... I prefer a totally mixed show, with no groups etc, but fail to understand what exactly the modus operandi is now. Also needs to root out idiots like the guy in the TVR doing a burnout in the car park. Still, it is always a great evening out, with an amazing mix of stuff, Harley's to Vespas and Lambrettas, Anglias to Mk1 Golfs and everything a rodder could dream of in between. I selectively took about 60 photos, and have reduced them to 10. German 2.6 Injected Capri. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslrojrjue.jpg Flat out on air C10 http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6vatax0p.jpg This GMC is really hand crafted......... Built on a Winnebago chassis with Big Block motorvation and a drag car on the back, what's not to love. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspsaayhfz.jpg Being our wedding anniversary, what better treat for Nicola than a car show (after all, we spent our honeymoon 5 years ago at the Retro Rides Gathering too) Nicola showing Martin the love. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8ucmosbn.jpg Nice Ford. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psx9z69b6h.jpg Evergreen Rover. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps02sjafh6.jpg Bought a week ago, he did not stop grinning. Load bed in metal flake with some candy skull artwork on the bedside. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstayvy2hp.jpg Spotless and for sale. It seems that trucks are really going up in popularity right now, let's hope the bubble does not break any time soon. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psef0kf5ds.jpg Moggy. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstehililf.jpg 105E Anglia, I had one years ago, loved it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc3zno3ya.jpg Here's to another good one next month. |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
On Friday when I got home , there was a card in the letter box , to say I had a parcel to collect from the post office . Great I thought my air con Bypass pulley has arrived from Rock auto . The best bit the cost of the part £29.41 the worst part our post office pay the £5.67 in VAT then have the audacity to charge £8 for doing this . I thought the highway men used to rob the mail now the mail men rob us
So Saturday morning it was down to the post office to pay the £13.67 . Here's the best bit they want to see your debit card or driving licence as proof of ID but they don't take cards for payment. So I took £13.67 in small change . The pulley to replace the air con pump http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pswzofi7ny.jpg The pulley in place http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psp3pj6vac.jpg So on Saturday morning the plan was to do the truck, unfortunately my other half's car overheated on Wednesday evening on her way home . So after collecting my part . My first job was to strip her little Ford Ka to find the problem . I found it was the thermostat and the housing faulty . So off to the local parts store to get the parts and then fix her car . So By 3pm it was a bit late to start rubbing down the chassis . So I thought I would have another go at getting the power steering pulley off as I needed to remove the carrier to get it welded . I had purchased a puller during the week , but unfortunately when I tried to remove the pulley it only came half way off and then the thread in the new tool stripped . I called the supplier on Friday who said they would send out a replacement . But me being impatient and wanting to remove the pulley so I could take it to NSRA show on Sunday, I need too replace the pulley as my new pump is a Woodruff key style and the pump on the engine is a push on style . So out came the welder . First I cut down the nut , and welded a new one on the washer , then used a better bolt to extract the pulley . The kit I purchased http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psvfswpfhm.jpg The new nut welded to the washer note the stripped thread on the old bolt http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pswtplbgzv.jpg The pulley half off before thread went on the tool http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psvhixhyz8.jpg Hey presto it worked . Note the two pump styles the new one came in my power steering kit http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pszxl7xj1x.jpg The reason for removal the small piece broken needing welding http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxwmrdcpp.jpg Now the part that hurt when . I used the ratchet gun to remove the bolt after welding on the new nut and the spanner slipped off and hit me . So this pulley got its own back . OUCH http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstqhqzr96.jpg Just the intake manifold to remove then clean and paint the engine . I won't get my shinny parts till I collect then from Don's in October and after the post office highway robbery you can see why . The engine stripped down http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pswwa2hv8p.jpg So today we had blood sweat and ( tears having to pay the post office ) |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Ouchhhhh...!!!
Glad I was not there to hear you scream. Saying that, it looks a lot like the last time Amanda got angry with you......:waah::waah::waah: Well done for persisting. I feel your pain for the post office, they have butt raped me a few times and it never stops hurting in the wallet. It's not the money, but just the idea that they hold power absolutely over your bits till you pay what they demand. Well done for paying them in 5p and 1p pieces. :metal: |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Owwww, that had to smart. Some times these old trucks can be very frustrating and nothing seems to go on easy, like it should. But you're making progress and getting back up on the horse, and thats admirable.
Soon you'll have your bright bits and meet up with some cyberbros… looking forward big time. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Hope your doing OK. I have hit my self WAY to many times and that crap hurts!

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Can't help myself mate… gotta ask, after getting smacked in the face, was it then a "Bloody" spanner?
Seriously, I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself too bad… cracked myself too many times to count and or remember…;) October is creeping up fast and the temptation to install said shiny bits is still there...:bann::rolleyes: |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well, another good weekend has come to an end.
Today it was up to this......... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psoa0aqmoa.jpg Nicola and I had planned this day for some time and were not disappointed. Met up with a few friends, including Ian brown, Del and son Sam from Romford, Adrian from Milton Keynes, all C10 guys. I also met up with Andy from Norfolk to buy some Dinitrol cavity wax that was left over from his International truck build, another nice guy with a good wife. I decided to actually enjoy the show a bit myself with Nicola today, so only took a few random photos of 60-66 Chevy/GMC's in C10 format. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbnmlodbt.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskr9mkqsi.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2hpo2jc3.jpg Del and son Sam were over I his Stepsise that he is turning into a full Patina looker. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfybbmog0.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0fjm8sxo.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuwacsdg0.jpg Adrian's truck, he fitted new rubber and wheels yesterday, I really love this look. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswmmejqf7.jpg Mick, who I did not meet's truck with lovely Extang tonneau cover. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psi0swbgll.jpg I want one of these Tonneau covers for my truck as well. Just need to figure out which model and size will fit it correctly. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyonrdvxx.jpg Beauty of the day. Pretty bloody good I say. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxwblvaq4.jpg |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
As shown in the early post .
My power steering pump that came in my kit from POL is a Saginaw pump , that has keyway style pulley fitting , unfortunately the pump on the new engine I got has a push on style . I obversely wanted to use the new pump with the new box that came together . After looking on the net and asking all the trade stands at the supernatts my only option was summitracing so thanks to Don another part is on its way to his . The way things are going me and Rian will need a plane just for parts http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psiltmqzzl.jpg I did manage to get something at the show on Sunday though a flexplate cover and a set of seals http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pseerltrwk.jpg Today I dropped off one half of the serpentine bracket , to Colin from my motorbike club , as the top section is broken and as he works in a welding shop. He will weld up the alloy for me . http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxwmrdcpp.jpg He will also be welding the the stainless steel flanges , to Rian's exhaust when he collects them from Darren I also got a call from the Sandblasters ,to say that I should be able to collect my crossmember and trailing arms next Saturday. So next weekend should be busy . |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Tonight on the way home I again stopped in at the yard to drop off some bits for the boys, happened to find mate Martin another retractable hose reel and a small mains driven 250kg winch for another buddy.
Funny how you look for an item for a long time, then two in two days. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psaq03r5dg.jpg Chatted to Ta2Don earlier as well, couple of pics of parts that have to come back in the baggage in October. Firewall pads? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps72co4blo.jpg Bigger suitcases?? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrlcfigsh.jpg Yes, it's all our stuff, and there is more coming in the post. |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
On Friday during the day, I called the Sandblasters as they were doing my crossmember and trailing arms . They told me they would be ready on Saturday mid morning .
So on Friday night I thought I would strip down my engine ready for paint . On Saturday morning I got a call to say they were ready. So after speaking to Rian in the morning to discuss the front upper and lower wishbones , he told me he had taken about 4hrs to blast his heater box . The thought of standing in his garage blasting them all day, was enough for me To load them into my car before I headed down to Ashford . It's about a 60 mile round trip . After speaking to the blaster and striking up a good deal for cash, I collected my parts and left him my wishbones . Engine stripped ready to be cleaned and painted . http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8qf6otpf.jpg Parts collected from the blaster http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pskzqutrru.jpg The next task was to remove the old bushes . They were really stubborn ,so after trying to push them out with a socket and bush removal tool, I gave up and got out the torch and burnt them out hey presto out they popped ready for paint . Heating them up works a treat http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psliqdyduv.jpg Bush removed http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscmdbutdb.jpg So after a clean up I got the first coat of Por15 on them pictures to follow |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Crossmember painted two coats of Por15 gloss black
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspzebjigk.jpg The same on the trailing arms http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psce9alu4v.jpg Hopefully tomorrow I plan to carry on sanding down the chassis |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well this morning I got up early to make a start on the truck .
First job was to pull the painted parts out of the carport . Once I inspected them I gave the crossmember another coat of Por15 . I then installed the new bushes into the trailing arms . It was still a little early to start grinding , so I dug out my new brake callipers , as they needed painting .I prepped them ready for paint , then I put a coat of VHT red calliper paint on them . Once they were painted , it was late enough to get out the grinder and start on the chassis . Parts out of carport and another coat on the crossmember http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psgnb9zli8.jpg Close up of the new bushes installed http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pssvp4fehk.jpg Chassis nearly all rubbed down . I just need to flip it over to finish the underneath http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psp9kn1agh.jpg Here's one of the callipers all painted http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf9nflr5u.jpg So all being well I have ordered some Por15 metal prep , which should arrive Monday or Tuesday . The crossmember and trailing arms were sandblasted so they had a slightly rough surface for the paint to key to . As the chassis has been sanded down to bare metal as opposed to being sandblasted it recommends using the prep first http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspt4jtt3a.jpg So hopefully I will collect my wishbones next weekend and carry on . |
