I got this pic from the shop a few days ago. It gives me a strange feeling seeing my truck apart like that when I didn't do it myself, but I know that it will be done right, probably better than if I had done it.

Did a test fit of the tubular control arms for 70-81 camaro from Performance online. Also fit the QA-1 coil-overs and C-5/6 spindles with 13 in. rotors. Had to message the lower control arm mounts on subframe so the tubular ones would fit. Also had the drill out shock mounting holes on lowers so QA-1's would fit.

Today as I walked by the burned out hulk of my truck and I heard it call me a dirty name.

The front clip I need is up in the San Fernando Valley for a good price. I just hoping it will still be there next time I drive up to the LA area to see my family.

I got a couple of more pics from the shop. The axle and rear suspension is in but not totally complete. The brake lines, emergency cables, new driveshaft, and shocks still have to be done. I see an AD in the pic but don't know any details on it.

Took the not-quite-complete truck to a local show to show it off. Turned out well, that's first place in the "under construction" class. Another week and it would have been under it's own power.

Thanks. I took this one after I got hooked up to leave for the show. Unhooked the tow vehicle and hid it in another part of the show, told them not to bother judging it. You can actually see it in the background of the first picture, behind the little white econo-box car.

Never been to a show standing on my head before. That would be a whole new experience. ;)

Last 2 items painted today. Steering wheel and rear bumper strut rod supports.

It feels really good to have all the painting done. It's been a lot of work that's for sure.

I put 3 coats on the strut rods and 4 on the steering wheel.

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_3210.JPG

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_3211.JPG

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_3226.JPG

So between coats I used free time wisely and bolted the spare tire rack on and then mounted the spare up there. Looks really good but there's was a gotcha.

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_3199.JPG

One of the 3 lugs twisted right off with hardly any force at all. Well crap. This is going to have to be drilled out and welded to repair meaning I'll have to touch up the paint (I'm still saying I'm done painting though.) I've got exactly 1 pint of green left so at least that's not a problem.

So take a look at the broken lug. It was repaired before! What a poor excuse for a repair job. You can see why it twisted off so easy. There wasn't much holding it.

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_3188.JPG

You can tell it was a bolt that had been cut with a hack saw and they welded around it and then ground off most of the weld. What a crazy thing to do. The only way to do this right is to drill clear through and weld it from the rear.
I'm also thinking now that I can't trust the other 2 lugs and I should drill those out and do all 3.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Well, I didn't actually do it since my truck is 250 miles away in the shop, but I got this pic yesterday. It's mostly all done other than the exhaust pipes from the mufflers back. It's about three inches lower in the rear and the tires are centered in the fenders. It has a 10 bolt 3:08 posi now replacing the 12 bolt 2:73 that was in it previously. There's not a lot of obvious changes but I like it.

Thanks, I can't wait to see it in person and actually drive it. Unfortunately I'm coming up to the serious part of my cancer treatment so it will be at least two months or more before that happens.

I didn't keep the axle but it won't be junked. My son mentioned that he would take the axle and also the QuadraJet carb if I didn't want them so I gave them to him. .
