Re: My 52 GMC Build
Sad to hear about your dog. Where did you get your steering column from? Can't find any in my area.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I'm looking for column that has no key but has tilt and gear indicator on it. I hear a mid 70's to mid 80's gm van works well.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Sorry to hear about Shooter, Lower.
I bet she had a great life with you! @ Farmersid, I have a mid 70's Tilt from a Chevy Van, works great. Only had to shorten it. Do not know the length for an AD truck... |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
That's a bummer about Shooter. I had a Boxer a few years ago... my boy Ryno. He was a bundle or energy. Too much sometimes! Whenever I took him for a walk in the evening, I'd stop at my kids' school and let him off the leash. He'd run full tilt three or four lengths of the soccer field, then just casually walk back over to have me put the leash back on. If we walked or drove past a Tim Horton's, he'd start drooling like crazy! The drive-thru girls always gave him a Timbit. Unfortunately, all the Timbits he ate probably didn't do him much good. He died before his 7th birthday from Pancreatic Cancer.
:(You sure miss them when they're gone. |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
Your heater reminded me of the awesome gas heaters they put in VW's in the 60-70's. I had one, and it just blasted out the heat. I figured something like that would be cool for your truck... then it dawned on me... no gas.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Sorry to hear about Shooter! My wife has a corgie that is about the same age, and is going down hill slowly too. Our husky, which is less than a year old, drives her nuts. That's probably what is keeping the corgie going. Haha

More wiring today. Trying to get the circuits that I need to start the motor done. Glow plugs. Fuel solenoid, Fuel pump, Starter. I'm planning to start the motor this Saturday to check for leaks on: fuel, PS, Trans cooler before I go any further. It will be nice to hear it run again.
Also got the inter cooler to intake pipes put together. Attachment 1487766 |

Saturday was a great day got enough permanent wiring done to start the motor.
First time putting diesel in the tank was a great feeling. Items tested: trans cooler, pb, ps, fuel lines and filters, glow plug harness. I found 2 small leaks but just loose fittings. Also took short vid. Attachment 1489161 :metal: http://vid51.photobucket.com/albums/...psfusdg3fa.mp4 |

Last night got some more done. Got the 7 pin trailer plug wired and installed. Also got my reverse lights wired and installed. Then the amount of beer that I was drinking told me I should stop before I F something up. But I did hot wire the reverse lights to see them on. They are very white but have a yellow halo. The last pick shows my water proof electrical box for the wiring at the back. Attachment 1489892 Attachment 1489893 Attachment 1489894 |

I ran some wire and installed my box tube end lights. They are LED dual element (run, brake) really bright D.O.T. approved. I will have them wired in the same as my tail lights. Attachment 1490484 |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
My son and I have been following your build for a while. We both think you are doing an amazing job!
Do you have a part number and or manufacturer on the lights you put in the end of the bed rail? I've seen them before, but was worried that they would be too dim. And possibly the ones for the the reverse lights also. Thanks, and keep up the great work!! |

No Problem guys.
On the weekend I took the fam out for a walk in the local wrecking yard. My GF likes going and my 2 boys had a blast. I think they went in every car there. Got a wiper motor from the tailgate of a '97 blazer and a vent from a mazda 3. I am using the vent for my heater. Attachment 1491732 Attachment 1491733 |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I want to see this blazer wiper motor work, I have heard of it before. those mazda vents are good looking and shut all the way, I had a speed 3
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I used a similar motor, only out of a ford. 48panel made me an adjustable linkage for it. Its a bit of fiddling with but if you got the time can be better than dropping 250 for a kit.

Tonight I made some stainless steel brackets to mount my LED tail lights. I used a 3/8" stainless street elbow to direct the wire down. I got the wires ran and hot wired them on.
