I will have them in a day or so. The last order I put in, the print shop didn't make the stencils, so I didn't get them when I was supposed to.

I’m down for one if there are any more available. I’ve got a 68 c10 dash in my 90 s10 blazer, and it needs a speedo badly

Kind of fell off the earth for a bit, but back now and have the kits available. PMs sent to all those who asked about them.

I would be interested in buying 2 of your overlay, stencil, and template kits if you have any available.

I just checked and it was 2013 when I bought one of your cruise control / turn signal levers for my '71. With that part and your "LS factory cruise control hook up" posts, I've had "factory" retrofitted cruise working in my truck since. Probably one of the best upgrades i ever made to it.

Thanks,
Don

Very interested in this setup!

Then cut the clear plastic part, it should look like this when done.

How are you guys cutting this clear plastic out?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I usually use an air powered cut off wheel then sand the edges with a DA sander, but those tin snips in the background should work.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I got my care package Monday. I don’t have a way to host pictures, but I’ve made some good progress. I have a 3 gauge cluster, so I had to trim the pattern a little in the bottom corners, but very easy to do. After that little mod, it fits great. I’ll have the new speedometer fully mounted this afternoon.

Thanks a lot. This is a really well thought out little setup. I’ve got to imagine you put a lot of work into getting all this done

I still have to cut the plastic part down, but the bracket is made and everything is bolted together

I'm way late to this party, but thank you so much for creating this thread and sharing your excellent work and info with us. Not just anyone would do all the R&D and then explain it to us (and for free!). Most folks would wanna sell us complete converted speedos for $500 instead.

I'm going to give this a shot on a pair of '84 and '85 square bodies I'm LS swapping. Not sure if I'll be able to use the stock '80s face, or if I'll need to print a new one. But I am a draftsman by trade, and my sister has a vinyl cutter machine, so I'm hoping I can just draw up and cut whatever is required, if so.

Thanks again! Keep up the good work.

Hi I'd be interested in a set of decals too if you have any made up!

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

what wired sockets are you guys using for the cluster lights? i cant find a bulb holder that is wired to fit the stock holes. i bought some from superbriteleds, t3.25 wired holders for 194 bulbs and they are too small. also tried dorman 85805 ones and they are just a little too small.

any ideas?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I've never bought new ones. I've always scrounged them from the salvage yard. They are found in most cars from the mid 60's on back. You should be able to find someone parting a 64-66 Chevy truck that would have them too.
They are also the same as a 67-72 truck AC/heater control light socket.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

ok....I'll try some trial and error and see what I come up with. was hoping to find a 2 wire socket but if not, I'll try the 60-66 sockets.

heres what i got which should be about done...but id like to add a few things to update this. its very time consuming and trial and error but i love the stock finished look. i ran an 80s camaro tach in mine along with the battery gauge guts in the ammeter face...so its a little different.

to get the factory paint off the lens...use Purple Power. it dissolves it VERY easy. be very careful with it and dont let it run to the other printed areas.

the green paint i found was at Hobby Lobby. it comes in a little small spray can and it matches VERY well imo. i did 3 coats and it came out nice.

i found a 2 wire light socket on amazon that fits pretty good. the base is rubber and does have 4 locking tabs but they fit very nice. if you need to add holes...go just UNDER 5/8" on the hole (i used a drill step bit). all the 5/8 will make it a little loose which is why you see the silicone on one of them.

i havent plugged this in to check on the truck yet so cant comment on that yet (truck isnt even running yet)

for the fuel gauge...i cut out the stock red lens for the oil and temp lights. instead, i cut the high beam and service engine plastics off the old s10 gauge. cut to fit, then mask off and paint over the words not being used or that will show..then you can glue them to the fuel gauge. gives you a stock-ish way to get a high beam indicator and SES light without drilling into anything

How did you change the piece where the warning lights went?

like the actual lens? i cut them off the original gauge and glued the ones from the s-10 on. or are you talking how do they light up?

Sorry for the vague question. I was mainly asking how you glued them down. Also, how did you get the old ones off without ruining the gauge?

kev2809 01-04-2024 09:39 AM

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

if i remember correctly that red film just pulls right off leaving the holes blank. then, you cut the s10 gauges to fit over them and leave enough to cover the holes. i used super glue to fix them back to the gauges. hope this helps!

I am having trouble finding 18–20-gauge sheet metal in my area. Would 22-gauge aluminum work ok?

Captainfab 02-04-2024 04:04 PM

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Personally I think .027" thick aluminum is too thin and flimsy.

So I went cheap and bought a small cooking sheet from Wally World for $7. It felt pretty sturdy so I cut my piece out of that. It's aluminum but I think it should work and is easy to work with so far.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

If wanting a stock type check engine light in the dash cluster for an LS swap. Acquire a gas gauge from a 40 series + truck with a diesel engine. IIRC the light up position on bottom right of gauge says "engine" Have a cluster with an air pressure gauge to use in my truck and it has this gas gauge. Been a long time since I have looked at it. Maybe different but was appropriate, just remember I am going to use this as an SES light on my truck.
