coming in to Lytton, gets extremely hot here, quite often it is BC's and Canada's hot spot of the day. thankfully with the hi thin cloud it was only around the upper 80's

leaving Lytton we took hiway 12 thru the upper Fraser Canyon- which has the distinction of being the most expensive road to maintain in BC. it is extremely windey with high sharp drop-off's and is very narrow, luckily we turn off before we start hitting that carp...
Attachment 1654145 heading up our turn to Monkey Wrench. rough gravel road that climbs about 1000 ft in half a mile right at the start. was also VERY dusty, wife was "complaining" 'bout taking her truck up it.... Attachment 1654146Attachment 1654147Attachment 1654148Attachment 1654149 |

some nice area's to ride, just cost me a fortune in fuel bringing the crew up here...
Attachment 1654152Attachment 1654151 talked the wife into "checking out" Stein on the way home. her RA was giving her some hake, so we just went to the entrance of the park. two ways to get across the Fraser, the reaction ferry, which was lined up, or the CN train bridge Attachment 1654154 Attachment 1654155Attachment 1654156 |
Re: post up your camping pics

the ferry crew has a schedule, but they pretty much set their own hrs.....can be hit and miss, so the local natives started using the CN train bridge to get across. they fixed it so no more accidents could happen, it hangs off the side of the train bridge...

Stein is a little over 400 sq miles of UN-TOUCHED land, prob the only un-screwed piece left in North America. there is no roads, no vehicles, no bikes, atv's- nothing. you go into Stein on foot only, nothing else. it is truly spectacular in there. when my son is a little older and bigger, i will take him in there.

actually there is a third way to get across the Fraser up there.
this little known susp bridge. it's actually a water pipeline across the river a couple miles north of Lytton. no way in haaaaay was the wife going out on it.... Attachment 1654178Attachment 1654179 the thin cloud made a rainbow around the sun Attachment 1654176Attachment 1654177 |

Teaser shot. Desert trip 2017.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4259/3...18237353_k.jpg100_0926 by Bigassgas8.1L, on Flickr Larry's rolling roadshow of trucks made another run to the desert last week. We've got a ton of photos and video to pour over but the trip report will be coming soon. I have to say this was probably the most fun I've had on 4 wheels for sure. Central/Southern Utah is an amazing place to see. It's even more fun to wheel. Day one off road had us on the wrong trail that we took anyway and it turned into the best off road trail I've done personally. Obstacle one after another. We made about 12 miles total off of I-70 and it took all day to do it. Stay tuned... |
Re: post up your camping pics
That looks awesome, Rob. Looking forward to the trip report.

went to Skuzzy mountain today...
named for the only vessel to ever make it threw Hell's Gate in the Fraser canyon. the Skuzzy was built specially for the canyon with a multiple compartitioned hull, one of the strongest engines available, and a huge winch on the front. The Skuzzy made it on the 3rd attempt with the engine going full out, the winch pulling, and 150 chinese railroad workers pulling on ropes from the cliffs. Every time the Skuzzy went out into the Fraser, they had to do hull repairs from the rocks and the pounding she took. There is not many pics of the Skuzzy as it was only in service for 2 yrs 'till the railroad was threw the canyon, then it was dis-mantled. the hull sat at Kanaka bar for yrs moldering away... the Coquihalla has really become the main way into the BC interior the last couple yrs, with a major increase in people, so been going up the canyon lately, not nearly as crowded...
pretty quiet on this stellar day... Attachment 1666758Attachment 1666759 'till i hit this guy....and just because people can afford something, does'nt mean they know how to operate it...for half a hour this id**t in the coach could not seem to make it over 25 mph....grrr, where's the next passing lane... Attachment 1666760 actually went by my turn off and went a few more miles up the canyon to the Cisco bridges at Siska. was hoping for a rare shot of 2 trains on the bridges at the same time, but as ya can see.... We had talked about taking a different route if we had more time as there is a new off road trail system linking the two towns that opened last year. The Rimrocker trail from all reports I read really needs 2 days due to the terrain. We didn't have the time to spend on it so we cannonballed it on a more tame but faster route as we had another member of our group to meet in Moab for dinner. |

Thanks! It's nothing special. Just a 69' longhorn I picked up out of a scrapyard after it sat for 12 years. The camper is a Northwest coach, I'm guessing around 60-69? I just picked it up a few weeks ago. Going to use it and work on it as I go.

i like it, very period correct looking unit
my boss used to have a longhorn as a sheet metal truck. was fun to drive, would hop off the line with the factory No Spin. the front end sheet metal now resides on his hot rod '69 c10 shortie... last feb (pg 23) went up the east side of Harrison lake. was just waiting for the snow to lift, then was going to do the Shovel Creek rd, a very rough, remote back way into Nahatlatch valley. i think i also mentioned how we get a lot of yahoo's from the big city out here acting like morons, well they were at it again. we had mapped out and planned our Shovel Creek run all week just to watch it go down the tubes....or....up in flames....literally, when the yahoo's lit up over 300 acres of the mountain. even more stupid, the firefighters had to stop on the way to the fire to put out 3 un-attended fires when other yahoo's were evacuated from the area....so of course fire officals have closed off the area Attachment 1668656Attachment 1668657 the fire started around Bear creek and has spread towards Silver creek and up the mountain, these areas where i was last feb. wonder what it will look like when the fire is out... so we decided to take the wifey's truck up the Coquihalla to Rickey lake, last time we were there was camping 3 yrs ago. we have been hit with a pretty intense heat wave last few days (for up here..) anywheres from the high 80's to right around 100, which has led to over 200 fires in the last week...and a campfire ban- bummer, holidays coming up in a couple weeks.
the Coke is ringed by some big fires right now, making it very smoky and smelly. we ran into a forest ranger and he said 125 fires started the day before, and be ready to leave the Rickey area just in case. smokey.....and smelly Attachment 1668665Attachment 1668666Attachment 1668667 stopped at this nice little spot- for about 36 seconds, then the skeeters latched on to us...even dawg was like lets get outta here Attachment 1668668Attachment 1668669 |
