Hey Brett, are you using some form of tread locker on those U-bolts?? I was visiting the friend I sold my K30 swap to last week and ALL of the rear U-bolts were loose! I couldn't believe it, they were TIGHT when I put it together!:uhmk:

Thanks Rick! You're right not much fun having the dang steer tires go every which way while trying to move the thing.

No I have not but I think you’re supposed to re-torque after like 100 miles or so and then keep an eye on them in the beginning? If they won’t stay tight I’d switch to a self-locking nut, I picked some up last time I was at my nut & bolt supplier and when I’m sure we’re done messing with the axles we’ll probably use them. Other than this how’s that sweet machine doing?

Spindles, brake mounts, backing plates and prep hubs with inner bearing, seal & rotors.

I did recheck them before I sold it, and it's had about 6k put on it since, this only happened last week. Beats me, getting loc-tited and hopefully that's the end of it! The truck is doing great, working hard on the farm doing what big trucks do best :metal: It's probably going to be getting new rocker shells this summer and a repaint with new door logos.

That axle is looking sweet! If I keep reading this thread, I'm going to have to start working on my K10 project that's been back burnered

Thanks for the compliment Jim. I'd think some thread locker should do the trick would love to see the upgrades and new door logo's.

The hubs are installed and they work as expected, man this axle is wide and heavy! :sumo:

I've found they don't roll very well without the wheels and tires ... dust shields get in the way

Nice work!

Thanks Jim! It’s funny you said that one of my buddies mentioned this while I was whining about the cost of tires these days. I told him the exact same thing!

Not much to show lately, keep getting sidetracked, the weather has been great and I got my honey dues you know. One of the projects a DIY patio we poured a year and half ago has turned out to be a fail. Concrete is really brittle and flaking bad even after the sealer topcoats we had put down so I’m hoping practice makes perfect? :waah:

I feel your pain, i didn't get enough slope on my rear pattio and the winter freeze lifted the low end a bit.... Thankfully the rain's not washing back to the house tho.

Then it’s a job well done Mike!

Here are a couple of pics from last week’s project, the dogs are not happy but my old blue C30 is always ready for the next job!

Back to the build, I’ve been stewing on what tire to run for the last month or so. Finally found a killer price so I ordered a set of these Discoverer A/T3’s last Monday. http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light...ERER-A-T3.aspx

OK since you twisted my arm, I’ll share the killer price info http://www.ebay.com/itm/310901803021 with the $100 discount ordering 6 it came down to $121 a tire. Cooper is running a spring promo on this same tire until 4/15 that’s another $70 Visa rebate. If it works out as planned that’s just under $110 per tire! Price gets even better if you were buying 4 instead of 6.

Hey Brett chassis is looking good... Too bad about the concrete work. Removing it is a lot of work. Time away from the truck. lol! Those tires will look good on there. If I didn't have a car to build after I get these trucks done I would do a 4x4 with 3/4 or 1 ton running gear. it looks beefy!!! Keep up the almost daily updates it keeps me motivated!

I hired the neighbor kid to break most of it up and help me get it into the bed of my truck. Saved my back for sure!

Thanks Scott, yeah the concrete work is just too much fun! I think the tire choice is a good one and the price was right. You know the almost daily’s keep me motivated also, and not just mine all the cool stuff people are doing all over this site. Really feel like I’m slaking when there isn’t anything new to post.

Me and the misses bonded, and we saved $1600 by not hiring a contractor cha-ching! Too bad we’re going to spend that plus paying a contractor to put it back in, :dohh: Dooh there goes more truck money!

Here are the new meats and now our garage smells like a tire store! I’ve got another set to clean up for blue which is still sporting the original split rims with tubes.

It’s time, finally pulled the bag off our new motor last week. Installed a missing rear cam plug and got it on the engine stand. Need to swap and steal a few parts off the 402 so bolted it on the old stand temporarily for safety.

We had an old car show buddy of mine get crushed last year under his blown 69 Camaro, they found him several days later. I think about him when I'm getting under something heavy these days a big block in the head or lap might hurt just a bit.

That's a good question, I really think orange looks great but I'm still leaning a little towards black with this one. Got to buy paint soon so we'll all know for sure in a couple more days.

I’ve got another pan that’s kind of beat up I’ll put on the parts motor. This one looks to clean up much better I think. So internally balanced flex plate, factory pan with dipstick, spin on filter adaptor, intake and old oil pump so we can make sure to get the right pickup. Should be everything we are going to need for now.

We won't win a prize for the fastest build but we are steady!

Exchanged the old calipers for some rebuilt ones and finished up the front brake lines. Put the front sway bar in and torqued everything to spec. We are ready for some rubber up front.

Thanks Ryan me too, we got a great deal on a couple of cases of Seymour Cast Blast last year. I almost painted them black even after I got the paint. Thought about getting some more and about fell off my chair when I saw what they want for that paint today.

And now the back is off the stands also. It’s not as complete as the frontend we still have a few things to address (finalize parking brake, diff fluid etc.). We’re still planning on dropping the diff down to clear the spring packs to bleed the brake system, so the final spring, shock, u bolt torque will wait also. But hey tada, it does roll!

Hey now that's a thought Mike, uh no! But thanks for the suggestion.

This setup has got to save us some gas don’t you think?

Mating an 850 double pumper to the old spread bore performer using a couple of square base gaskets and a 1/8” square plate in between is not quite enough to clear the primaries so a little shave on the center divider will get us the rest of the way. Our factory type breather setup to the air cleaner base we are going to run can’t accommodate a large adaptor/spacer because of the angle it will create, also I believe the divided plenum helps with low end torque. So I’m trying to keep as much of the intake divider in place as possible. Soaking some areas with gunk before a trip to the solvo sink hoping it cleans up good enough and that it doesn’t have to be painted.
