Back in early Oct, I bought an old Jeep cj5 to tinker with. It had been off the road for several years, so I have been straightening out PO issues and used it for running back and forth to the farm (10 mile round trip) during deer season. Today, I took it on a 40 mile round trip ride. It is working out good. So much like tinkering with these old Chevies, just not the exact same.

I've often wondered if I'd like owning a cj5. A friend had one in the mid 70s (seems like it had an eagle on the hood maybe) with the v8 that I liked real well. Never liked em enough to go look for one though.

CJ5's are very short in leg room CJ7 is your better bet.

Started to backfill today . I put 2 inches of sand under and 4-5 over the pipe to protect it from any damage from the stones in the backfill . I picked out the really huge ones but there are plenty of medium to small ones.

Spent 3 hours block sanding at a body shop today. More 37 Dodge PU work.
But you need a Jeep like my LS swapped Wrangler. Best swap ever.

Looks familiar to me.
Early this year I had an under ground water leak develop. My home was built in the 70s so it had black plastic pipe supply line. Plumber said you will be repairing it again 'fore long. About 4 months went by and another leak sprang up. Repaired again. The 3rd time was enough. I had him replace the whole length from meter to house. Still plastic but 50 years newer.
I didn't need that repair bill but he had the mini x that made it so much easier and faster.

I like all jeeps, from military on up to current models. My favorites were cj5s from the years 72-early 80s when they ditched them for the longer cj7 market. The shorter wheelbase made for a pretty much off road beast ,and I couldnt pay for one mowing yards for 2 bucks apiece. Still my favorite, v8 powered ones of course.

I didn’t even consider fixing the leak this house was built late 60s . Cry once and just get it done is my way of thinking . I have a mini excavator coming tomorrow. Heavy rain here today I have a sump pump in the trench .

I've owned this one 40 plus years. Still runs and drives but starting to smoke a little so it's in line for a complete rebuild.

Yesterday I found myself tinkering with an A/C unit. Trying to remove the fan assembly for replacement. I found the bundle of wires needing disconnected and went to doing so. My buddy standing there with me warned that I should kill the power. My thinking was that since this unit will not be commanded ON while I'm here now, it shouldn't be a problem but went ahead to try and pull the breaker in the box hanging on the wall next to the unit.

After a struggle to get it open I said F'k it and went to unbundling those wires. My buddy says "Famous last words." Leaned down into the machine propping myself up over it with both forearms on the outer metal casing. Then started carefully cutting the tape with my blade.

Then it happened. I had felt this sensation on a few other occasions...electric fences and some vague memory as a child after someone told me to sick my finger into the light socket...but THIS. This was far more powerful and scary. I completed a circuit from my right hand to my right forearm across my body to my left forearm.

Oh man. I suffered no known injuries thankfully. However this will never be forgotten by my small circle of friends and they will let me know how stupid it was over and over again.

Actually, yes, it will be a second place, for a while. My mom is elderly and lives near me. I won't abandon her. She followed us to ID. She's kill me if I left her here :). Seriously, at some point in time, we probably will move there.

Finished up the backfill. Unfortunately the brass pipe coming out the cistern from the pump is leaking so I need to fix that tomorrow.

I also had to buy a new bit didn’t have an 1 1/2 masonry bit . So $125 dollars later

1946 CJ2A first year of the civilian Jeep. I bought this from the original owners daughter after his passing, it was used on a local walnut ranch.

When I worked at the paper mill and joined maintenance, they made an industrial electrician out of me. It was a union shop and the HVAC trained guys kept their panties in a wad over "regular" electricians working on units. I developed an attitude of" I dont care if you "burn/freeze" your a$$ off while Im on shift, dont call me to work on your heat or ac.
Eventually we were forced to at least look at the problem and stop at "freon"
I can understand protecting your craft, but it tied our hands.
So... I trained myself in troubleshooting hvac. I still don't mess with freon, even at home and there are sometimes you have to work hot, but be careful. A jolt acrosd your chest can interfere with heart rythym. You are fortunate.

Bought a super clean bed and gate for my Dodge today . Very hard to find an 8 footer this one appears to have had a slid in camper in it as it has a power plug for 110v in the bed . Inside of the bed is as nice as the outside Local guy brings beds in from the south and it took him a while to get me one . Also bought a mint complete step bumper .

Baked cookies all day with my daughter into the night from scratch. I haven't used a mixer in 50 years, and can't say I love the labor. But my daughter takes after her Nana, keeping the tradition. Her gifts Christmas traditional with a labor intense 72+ candy cane; 150 chocolate crisps, until we tired of making them, and lost count of snowballs..............................................My gift just 75 peanut butter and 72 chocolate chip. Altogether eleven :waah:hours, Christmas is about wearing me out this year already. My poor daughter, and niece are making me a birthday cake tomorrow, another Nana tradition☺ This is the last cake my mom made for me, and her/my German Shepherd took a taste when we were looking:lol:☺ Some might say they're surprised six years already, but I'd say it's been a long road and lots has changed.

The cookies are from this book, 1963.

Merry Christmas you and yours.

That's a lot of baking!

I made a batch of Chocolate Waffle Cookies (my Mom's recipe) and I will bake a batch of Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies in the next day or two (my Mother-In-Law's recipe), and a couple of batches of Kettle Corn, for when we go to the daughters house Thursday. I like to bake cookies and have baked a bunch of them in the last few years.

Sorry you had to miss Christmas. In November, I came back from MCACN sick and had to cancel all Thanksgiving plans. Never got tested, but the symptoms were very similar to the current covid. Took 5 days to start feeling better and 7 to really feel decent again. I figured it was all over and I was good to go. 3 days later, I could barely walk 20 ft and had to stop and catch my breath, pulse 103, low grade fever and I was in the local urgent care and diagnosed with pneumonia. Dr. wanted to admit me to the hospital down the street and get checked in immediately !! I declined and she put me on a 5 day anti-biotic regimen with 7,000 mg of 2 medicines a day with strict orders that if I wasn't doing better in 3 days to go to the hospital. She also, had to bring up my age, and said us senior citizens were vulnerable to this and they were seeing a lot of walking pneumonia right now and it can be deadly if not treated aggressively.
Obviously, I'm still here and doing well, but if you, or anyone around you, starts feeling weak and short of breath, get to a DR and get x-rayed for pneumonia.
Take care and pay attention to your symptoms and go for help if you start to go downhill again.

The flu that is going around now is worse then Covid. If left untreated it will turn into pneumonia.

Thanks . It’s been a rough two weeks but I’m much better .

And of course I go out and noticed a nice puddle of antifreeze under my Dodge . Was hoping it was a hose but it’s definitely the radiator. Ordered one but I’m not going to be able to do it . Truck won’t go into my garage the cab roof hits the overhead door header . And half the front needs to come off with all the related diesel items so I’m not doing outside. The mechanic I use said he has no problem using the parts I bought to fix it .

Started getting quotes on my new shop . First one in was from Boss buildings
30x50x12 two roll up 10x10 doors ( may go with overheads) two 24x36 windows one 36x80 man door . Fully insulated with R16 Prodex insulation . 43.5 psf roof which may need to be upped for the town . Basically a big box

Total $26,064.00 before local sales tax includes delivery and installation.

Now to get the slab quotes . I’m going to lay radiant heat in the floor myself but the pour I want a contractor to do just to big for me to handle . I’ll have to figure a way to map out the pipe grid in the floor so I can install the two post lift .

Not a bad price on the building. I built my 'overflow parking' shop in 2019 and formed the floor myself and did the backfill. They came back and put the metal on after I had it poured. I had my one ton so the farthest bay to the right was going to house it. I poured it extra thick but probably didnt need it.

Not a bad price for the structure in this economy. Have a course, or 2, of block laid on the slab so the sidewalls are 13' and that will accommodate a 12' tall door. Looks like you are specifying a good amount of insulation but the heat will just go right out thru those cheezy roll up doors. I had a 32X48X13 pole building put up here in the fall of 2019 at only slightly less than your quote. A friend saw it and started getting quotes for the next, covid, year and the cost for one of those nearly doubled over the next 2 years. Even though I don't plan to ever heat that one, I had a 12' X12'X2" insulated sectional door installed. Never say never...
As an alternative to all the work of in floor, I have had radiant heaters in my 2 pole buildings and they are very efficient, quiet and "cheap" to run. I imagine you will be heating the water with an outdoor wood furnace, can't do that with a radiant...

No the system will use either a gas or fuel oil fired water heater . Friend did his and put a monarch boiler in said it was a waste of money as the water is 120 degrees leaving the manifold returns at about 90 . The system adds just enough to the outgoing to be 120 again so not much water goes back into the boiler .

I will be going with overhead insulated doors but I don’t have a need for a 12ft door

Can't imagine still using fuel oil to heat. That has to be crazy expensive, even compared to propane.

Fuel oil right now is 2.78 a gallon propane is 3.49 . Diesel at gas stations is cheaper than propane here

You might get a 10-5 cent discount if you use a large amount of propane my house the propane is for hot water and my range top don’t use much ,natural gas isn’t available here

Electric is crazy stupid here not so much the electricity itself but all the delivery fees and taxes . My electric bill for usage was $35 last month delivery fees and taxes was $127 and the delivery fees go up as the electricity usage goes up
