I sprayed a black guidecoat on the Camaro. Pulled it out and took a few pictures. This is going to be a straight car. I can't wait to get it out on the open road.

I was off for President's Day yesterday and it was nice out so I did the stripes on my Equinox tailgate.

The only thing that I can find wrong with that Camaro is that it isn't in my driveway. That's a really neat car.

What did I do today? I called the electric company and was on hold or listening to robots for an hour and a half. Hey the fun never stops around here folks.

Finally I pressed the button for an emergency. (I lied :o ) I didn't have an emergency but it was the only way to get anyone to answer the damn phone.

I got these nitwits on the phone telling me to stay away from downed power lines. Listen sweetheart I worked there longer than you've been alive. I know a thing or two about power lines. Spare me. My power is fine. I just want to move my employee discount to my new house and the website that they keep trying to send me to won't do it and this is the only way to get past the stupid automated BS phone system.

So after 90 minutes I "think' that I got it done. The person that I talked to didn't seem too bright. Maybe they were dropped on their head as a child. I expected a fiasco and was not disappointed.

Well like I always say, lowered expectations reduce the degree of disappointment. ;)

First run about a week ago on the right . As the season goes the syrup will get darker by mid March it will be almost too dark . In the industry that syrup would be used for flavoring

I took a bunch of pictures of my Corvair for a guy that says he's interested. Not getting my hopes up though. So many looky lous these days hoping to buy something cheap from a clueless seller so they can flip it.

So many flippers. The way to cut back on them is put the price up there. A fair price draws them in like flies on shi... sh kabob.

I love maple syrup. But I hardly use it. It takes me a long time to go through it. I have some applewurst links I'm fixing for breakfast. I'll make up some buckwheat cakes to put under some syrup.

I really would not care how dark it was. It has to be good. How does it taste compared to Cracker BBL syrup?

I think it’s much better . But pure maple syrup will be about the same only differences would be from local soil minerals. But most maple syrup is from the same type of northern soil

Is Cracker Barrel's syrup actually pure maple syrup? If it is that's great. A lot of syrup claims to be pure, but it isn't.

I don't know if it is or not. I can make a better pancake than they can, but I can't match the syrup with anything bought locally. I can go up the road to the restaurant and fork out a bunch and buy it , though.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I ask because the standards for labeling are kinda funny. It can say "Pure Maple Syrup" but doesn't have to be 100% pure unless they say it is. It's been so long that I've eaten breakfast at Cracker Barrel I don't remember their syrup. I did make my applewurst and buckwheat cake breakfast this morning. I have syrup my friend made on his place

I raked out all the flower beds and cut plants back. Springtime duties, ready for mulch now. Only problem is this isn't spring! We are still over two months away from our frost-free date, May 15th. But I'm ready!

I also worked on making carpenter bee traps. Last year was the first time I got mine put up ahead of them getting active and I caught about 100. I started last summer making traps to sell or give to friends. I pulled those out and got more made up

Yeah the first day it falls is nice but after that. Not so much.

Today I waited for a bed that my wife ordered so I could sign for it. So far 3:45 PST it hasn't shown up.

I was bored so I decided to trash the plumbing company that has seemed to have forgotten me and left a big hole and a mess in my front yard.
Funny how a bad review on the internet wakes them up. The hole is being filled as we speak. They suddenly showed up. The owner even left me a message. Probably to get me to retract my comments. I guess that the squeaky wheel really does get the oil.

I also had the tree guy show up. I have a massive stump next to my pool.(ugly) Who plants an oak tree right next to a pool? It'll be gone tomorrow weather permitting.

And I had another piece of fence fall down around the pool. I was going to tear it down but it seems to be doing it all by itself. Hey... Less work for me. :)

Today I shoveled snow from my driveway, after clearing it off my wife's Tacoma. First time this year, don't recall whether I did it last year. 14" which is the most we've had in years.

Paul -- that sure was an odd place to plant an oak tree!

Yeah it sure is odd isn't it. But the more that I get into this place the more I scratch my head.

14" is quite a bit for around here. I'm not sure what we got, too much for me. I'm ready for spring. At least the lake is looking good again. It'll be nice in the summer. :)

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Had a young roofing company rep come by to tell me my roof needed replacing. Huh, how could you tell? So he convinced me it was storm damage and I should start an insurance claim. This roof is over 25 years old people and brittle as can be so I don't imagine my insurance will cover it's replacement. So this young insurance rep said to let him know when the adjuster planned to be here so he could be also. Well the next day, while I was in the middle of reskinning the shop, the adjuster showed up earlier than planned and the sales rep missed him. The adjuster being an older man is skilled in ways of getting around sales reps. ;) He came and went in 15 minutes or so, then 1/2 hour later the youngun showed up with his trainer, also a young guy. Man, were they pissed the adjuster had done them that way. They were all set to sell the adjuster on a complete replacement and didn't even get the chance.
Being in the senior citizen group I've seen and learned a lot over my years and just grinned and chuckled watching the young guys all puffed up about themselves and their sales pitch, then the older veteran insurance adjuster giving them a bit of schooling and winking to me without comment. I knew why he came early. Wiley old veterans, gotta love em. Don't mess with old guys.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Ambulance chaser sales technique. I would never trust the guy who knocks on my door and tells me I need a new roof. How can he see hail damage from off your property? I see it as trespassing since he doesn't actually know if there is hail damage. He is going by your area seeing some hail damage recently. My friend, who is a contractor, lives in a neighborhood where every house around him got new roofs due to hail damage. His company wouldn't give him a new roof even after seeing all the neighbors got one. If that guy has to go door to door to find work, is he the guy you want replacing your roof? Even if the adjuster gave the ok for a roof replacement, I'd be calling someone who gets work through having a good enough reputation that people seek them out, not the opposite.

The thing you need to watch with homeowner's insurance these days is they have adopted the same model auto insurance companies use. Three strikes and you are out. They will cancel you for making too many claims. And they count an inquiry as a claim.

I agree with you Tim.. I am at needing a new roof myself ,,but I can tell that I should get one and not put it off until it leaks and then do it ,,My roof is 22 years old and the heat here in the summer is what ages mine the most as the asphalt shingles have shiny tar showing up in all the tab edges ,,Sure I might get another few years ,, but to have a leak over vaulted ceilings is enough for me to decide better safe than sorry ,, I estimate it will around 12k in my neck of the woods to replace it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

We had hail damage that got about 5,000 house back in '95. I was recruited by a salesman who could tell by my truck I was a siding contractor. A agreed to do some house for that company. Then I started getting calls from references. I suddenly had more work than I could wish for. and this was after I got beat out of big bucks by a builder declaring bankruptcy, so I was leery about taking on another builder. This salesman was a friend of the owner of a home improvement company and he came down from MI to help sell these insurance jobs. We had a lot of contactors flock in from other areas. Salesmen were knocking on doors telling homeowners their aluminum siding needed replaced just because the hail buffed spots in the oxidized paint. All this led to the state insurance commissioner changing the guidelines for damaged siding replacement. The new rule was only replace the affected wall and only if more than two walls were affected would you get the whole house re-sided. Pretty screwed up when you had aluminum siding and the replacement siding was vinyl.

I didn't have to knock on any doors to get work. I'd be in a neighborhood with (sub) contractors replacing siding up and down the street. People would see the job I was doing, how we kept the job cleaned up, how well we worked together, no loud music, cigarette butts, good looking trucks, good equipment, Offered upgrades, and we gotter done. I had homeowners walking past the other crews to ask me for a quote. Once we were in the neighborhood we got all the work. That's the only way I know how to sell a job.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I've been up on the roof numerous times so I knew 5 years ago it was time to consider replacing it. I had it replaced sometime after we bought the home 30 years ago.
He asked so I allowed him to go up and take some pictures. Since it has a few tabs broken off and layed over it is easy to see from the street which is why he stopped by. We had a hard thunderstorm blow through last week. Lot of wind. I was in the shop at the time and stopped what I was doing due to the noise and watched it blow through. I told him due to the age of the roof there likely will be no help from the insurance. Eh, if nothing else, this is a learning experience for the young man. ;)
