Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
I mentioned we had a pretty good wind storm on Friday. Went over to a friends house and saw these trees. There were quite a few of them tipped like these two.

We’re are the trees roots that must be a rare tree

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
City trees with lots of water at the surface, not much water to send a tap root deep to get. Plus, even if there is a tap root (which these do not appear to have), it's dried up in the drought. So little at the base, and a good wind takes them right over. We see this all over the dry states that have to be irrigated for things to grow.

as some of you know,we got hammered with Hurricane Fiona a month or 2 ago.things are pretty well back to normal but there's trees still down, uprooted and smashed all to pieces.most are cleaned up in the travelled places but lots in the woods and on the road side that are not in the way and may never get cleaned up?today while i was doing my part time dump truck driving job,i went by a big graveyard and rows and rows of trees down but cleaned up for the most part but i came across this monster and had to take a few pictures.i wished i had something to measure across that stump but i work tomorrow and i'll have a tape with me in case i get back by it but i know it's over 3 feet across.unreal,of course it was sick but a monster tree none the less.i wonder how many hundred years old it was?Mother Nature is large and in charge.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
I guess that I complained to USPS one too many times.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ed_Mailbox.jpg Actually there were 5 mailboxes at the end of the road that got creamed. A guy was towing a grader and jackknifed the trailer. Everything landed in the guy on the corners yard including the flipped grader. What a mess. The postman gave me a hard time about not having a mailbox. Really? I still walk with a walker. Like I'm going to dig a post hole and pour concrete? Not happening buddy. I'm lucky to be walking at all. My buddy told me that he could fix it. |
Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
They don't make a backhoe attachment for that walker? It's a p.i.a. all around when your mailbox gets ruined. I'm sure you want it fixed worse than the mail person

I'd like to get out of this walker but my balance isn't quite back. Not like it was so great before. I can walk without it but sometimes I go sideways when I'm trying to go straight. I need something to grab and fast. Lesson to be learned. Don't hit your head really hard or get a nasty virus. It messes you up and really makes it tough to fix your mailbox. |

Let's hope for continued improvement. It can take a long time, sometimes, though. |

Hang in there Paul. Head injuries are no joke & they take time to heal. Try to be patient. Take it slow.

Paul some stoves won’t take a long piece of wood ;)

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
Most stoves these days want smaller wood. Stoves have changed in that way since we were young guys chasing young women. Speaking of stoves, a woman can keep you warm too. Were we still talking about stoves?
I'm holding off on the woodstove because I'm not so well stocked. The woods I wanted to cut in turns out are not owned by the person who offered all I could cut. I'm doing work on this person's house presently. She had her woodlots logged, so I was going by the woods that were logged. But it turns out the guy who farms her place owns the woods I had my eye on. They both hired the logging out together. Disappointing, I just walked the skidder paths and plotted out a plan for attack. I think her woods are harder to get back into, but I'll be checking it out this week |

Tim is right this stove takes smaller wood . When I bought it as the old stove burnt out I had to cut all the wood I had stacked . Made a jig to cut multiple pieces .

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
Those little chunks make for a hot fire quick! I used to buy firewood and all the guys back then were stuck on 24" from back in the fireplace days. I'd request the wood at 18" but I'd still end up cutting 10-15% of a load shorter. Efficient stoves with fire brick require shorter. wood. I see wood advertised these days and they all are cutting at 16-18"

Yeah, I'm that guy. Makes for a neater, more efficient woodshed. Our stove will take 21" or so. |

Attachment 2233493 So I got my barn moved, finally. After some patching up it will be time to move back in. I had stuff spread all over this place. My screen house was packed with wood shop tools and truck parts. Soon I'll be moving everything out. This cherry slab wood I moved out of the screen house to stack on my hard working little shortbed project. I just listed it for sale and that's how I came across these pictures |
Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
Last week this little shed was overflowing. That pine burns like the clap. I wanted oak but couldn't get any. I need to call my buddy and get some more. My wood stove has a big appetite.
My house and the shed are getting painted. So I have to wait on the wood because it's less wood for the painters to move. So far they haven't painted anything, just prep work and it's a wood house that hasn't been painted in years so it's a lot of prep. They've been sanding and pounding on the walls for a few days now. It drives my dog crazy. He darned near bit one of them the other day, the guy got a little too close to the fence. I tell people do not go near the fence. I can open the gate and let you in and he's fine. But if the gate is closed and I'm not there don't go near the fence. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...edium/Wood.jpg |
Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
Nothing wrong with pine as long as it’s dry

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’
I know people survive on wood heat in areas with only evergreen wood. You burn what grows where you live. I remember being shocked we were burning redwood when I lived in Fortuna. Heck, the house I lived in was built all out of redwood.
