Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Since dumping the big block plans and starting on the inline 6 w/turbo, I went and retrieved a 250 from a '66 a friend had, was overall pretty good, BUT had already been bored .060", so not much I can do with it-looking for another block or complete engine(250 or 292) ordered my lump kit, cam and intake from Autowerks. Talked to Tom , the owner there-real nice guy and alot of info on inline 6's. Also have the turbo exhaust manifold ordered from SPA. Found a complete turbo package on Evil bay with intercooler for around $700.
Last Sunday, got the driver's side quarter panel patches in place and ready to weld. Along ways to go, but finally making some progress.

Went for a little drive this afternoon. Actually met with Todd Harvey while I was out, a former NHL'er, he scored a very respectable 91 goals, and 223 points in 671 career NHL games, he is a Cambridge boy. I am coaching a travel hockey team, and he runs a hockey skills training center. Long story short... think that was my last spin around the neighborhood for this year... time to get to work, time to start a thread!

Very early cars had a sacrificial panel behind front tires and it ran to rear of car. It deflected rocks kicked up by the tires. Originally called rock deflector panels and later on called rock panel....then switched to Rocker Panel :mm:

Re balanced the front tires and put duc tape over the inner sticky weights to keep them on.. LOL lost the fist set and man did it shake.

Sweet 383. How much lead are you going to hide under the truck bed so you can keep your tires hooked to the pavement?

GMR-PERFORMANCE 10-04-2012 11:29 AM

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

With sticky tires these trucks will hook up very hard, with nothing more than some soft rear shocks..

I decided to replace all the steel brake lines with stainless so I picked up a double flaring kit to go with my tubing bender. Also got a second angle grinder cause I am really sick of switching out wheels right in the middle of a project.

I finally got the rear end clean enough to paint. That'll get done Saturday morning.

scoured internet and catalogs looking for all of the upgrades I am going to do. Stuck mainly on the type of disc bake conversion. Transplant crossmember and rear to get 5 lug but lose the torsion setup or go with a commercial 6 lug kit up front.........

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Spent the day re-reading everything I can find about actually installing the windshield. Half the success stories install the windshield top first, while the rest start bottom first. I sure wish there was a pictorial posting already in place specific to the 60-63 wrap around windshield. The factory service manual is practically worthless because it offers no installation photos and doesn't address the issue of the glass hitting the roof overhang.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished rewiring the water temp. and oil pressure gauges and stereo. Prewired the Fosgate punch 150 amp and Kenwood EQ. Turned it over for the first time in over 1 year. Gas started shooting out of the front of the carb. Its a Holley 4160 600cfm vacuum secondary, rebuilt it 1 year ago. Also reinstalled epoxied gas tank, new fuel line, hoses, and filters. New sending unit and connecting hose to fuel neck installed. Removed carb. and removed front bowl. Air nozzled and wired out all ports. Checked accell. pump, checked ok. Cleaned out primary nozzles and reinstalled. Turned over and fired right up! Accell good and idle good. Shut-off and looked inside carb. Found secondary venturi is dripping fuel on the right side steadily and fuel is leaking out of the throttle body gasket on the driver's side. UGH!!! More work to do next week!! :smoke:

Today I replaced the 500 pound, diamond plate step bumper/tow device with an original bumper that I had rechromed. Looks a lot better IMHO.

Didn't get much done this weekend.

My 11 year old welded up a couple holes in bed cross members so we can reuse them for the flat bed.

I bought a chrome rear bumper that was on craigslist. The guy didn't know if it was original or aftermarket so I made the 60 mile drive and found it was an older Chinese aftermarket bumper but I bought it anyway at a reduced price. I ordered up bumper and license plate brackets from Classic Industries. After modifying 1 bumper bracket and the plate bracket I got the bumper mounted today. It's not running to good right now but it looks a little nicer.

Just a small job but has made a big difference to my interior - and something I've wanted to do for the past two years..

Many thanks to Jeff [62 Longbed] who sent all of the necessary parts to mount my horn button (including the button itself!) across the pond for a great price
