Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

well i should be starting to work on first shift next monday, my supervisor is a &^%*, dont want me to go so his dragging his feet and said i need to wait three weeks! so they can have time to find a replacement, and he wait me to work the day before i switch, but i found out that i dont have to if i dont want to and he cant do anything about it, lol!!

anways i have been doing some measuring and what not on my truck! i'm going to double box my c-notch and order some other metal for my front tilt hood, i'm going to make some tubular crossmembers, to replace the two crossmembers that are behind the rearend and make a different shock crossmember that will still all still bolt on!! i got the idea from porterbuilt, but i'm going to beef mine up and go with 1/4 plate and 1 3/4"-2" tubing, i also like how 'coulter' made his radiator/jack support crossmember, and i will be making one, but i will have my radiator bolt to the core support not the crossmember and jack plate! so far i have ordered 1/4"x8"x10 ft. had it cut down to two foot pieces! i still need to order some 1 3/4"-2" tubing, 4x4" angle iron, 3x3 angle iron and some 3/16"x6"x10ft. the 3x3 angle iron and 3/16" plate will be for the front tilt hood!!

ya, i do flips alot really, about $150-160 in metal! i'm was thinking of buying a small plasma cutter, it would come in handy when cutting the 1/4 plate, but i have a cutting torch and a grinder for now!! i still have to build the small shed for the air compressor, i have found small plasma cutters/tig welders for a round $300-450 but ill have to check into it more when i get the money saved up!! anyways when i do get to go to days and start to get the weekends off i'll update my thread with some pics an stuff!! its been hot here lately and with my thruck being 15-25 miles for me it makes it hard to want to go work on it, plus working second shift doesnt give me a lot of time to go do anything to it other then look at it, lol!!

you bet Chadwick, I will be starting a winter build thread in October. I have been driving mine all summer, no time to do any substantial work, been busy putting gas in the tank!!!! plan to update front suspension and brakes, pretty up the front frame and sheet metal, install a T5 (just got off the phone with my tranny guy actually), new (original mind you) steering column, to name a few things.

CHADWICK!! lol! i havent been called that in a long time, my best friends mom would call me that when i was 10-15 before i moved from cali, and my aunt use to call me that until i got married 6 yrs ago.

so the steering column are you going to shorthen it ? its not that hard if you have a welder! i cut mine down three inches, i havent got the turn signal cam for it yet, and i havent cut that shaft down yet either, thats why its not done and installed!!

just plan to basically restore the new one, and paint it
when I got the new column it had a deluxe wheel attached to it, which I put on
this convinced me that I don't want to go power steering, love the wheel, makes steering in parking lots much easier (bigger dia)
can't shorten the column or there wouldn't be room between the satellite dish and the seat for my legs:lol:

well i went to work yesterday afternoon, to talk to the supervisor about switching, because theres papers i have to sign! anyways i get to the office and he told me i have to want another week and he want me to train the new guy for the rest of this week and all next week before he will let me go!! i got a lil mad and said "thats why we have leads for, why should i have to train someone and wait another week, i didnt get trained, this is b.s"!! he said "i just cant let you go w/o someone to take your shot", i said i'm going to go talk to 'penny' are main supervisor, she told me yes he can keep me for 4 weeks total only, and that if i'm not on days by the 4th. since the 3rd. is labor day, come see her and i will be that next day, i said ok i will!! so when i got home i told the wife and she wasnt happy and i said i'm not either, she wants to go see her family that leave about 1.5-2 hr. away and i just want to work on my truck, got alot to do an i'm running of out time to meet my deadline of march 18th to have it on the road

thats how i felt, i have been in a bad moon! well, until early this mourning; i got a letter in the mail from santa barbara bank and trust! i looked online to make sure it wasnt a scam because of what the letter was saying!! then i called them to find out more about it, needless to say i'll be getting a check in the mail for $2112.47 from some back taxes i didnt get two years ago!! i have had my taxes done by the same person for the last 5 yrs. and i do remember once or twice that i didnt get anything back but i didnt think anything about it!! so anyways i got to wait 30-90 days for them to process everything and send me a check! the guy i first talked to said that the 90 days is the longest and it could be within a month or so really!!! SO, anyways i'm in a much better mood today!! until i told the wife, LOL!! she has half already spend and i got even have the check yet!! so i'm be getting a few parts for the truck, so i should have everything for the motor then, i hope unless that wife has anymore things she wants!!

young man, i sure dont feel like a young man! i'll be 31 the 18th. of this month and i have had a job since i was 9! parents told me if i ever wanted anything that cost money i would have to pay for it or work for it!! so i started young and it has made me take pride in everything i own! so i tought of a pretty cool license plate frame- it will say 'built not bought' then the license plate my wife friend made me for my daughters baby shower 4yrs. ago it says- 'natshas daddy'!! i think it will be cool to have the cowl inducted hood, tubbed back, and a motor you can hear coming! if i had the money i would buy a tom nelson lsx 376 6.2l motor and have 800hp 900 tq, and still get 20mpg. daily driver all for $26000 that would really awesome!!

anyways i'm going to wait til i get the check to buy my wiring harness, hydroboost hose set, alloy axles and rear wheel bears and seals! everything else for the motor and rearend i'm going to buy until the check does come in! should be able to have wiring done by late nov. early dec. the check can not come in til nov. but should come earlier, we will see! if the check comes in this month early next month i might start the truck before x-mas, lol!!! and be driving it by my boys b-day 18th. of march, but i am shooting for atleast having it running, chassis and interior done by his b-day!! i want to drive it while i wait to work on the last bit of bodywork this next summer!!
