Oh, there is no doubt that it will stay a stepside. :metal: It is Hart_Rod who is swapping his son's truck to a fleet.

To many green steppers around here... sheesh! Either that or I need to be on the board more often. Ha! :D

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

I feel ashamed... I had to take my truck to the exhaust shop because I couldn't get the header collectors to stop leaking. What was the cause? LAZINESS! I didn't clean the flanges well enough and some old gasket material was stopping the new aluminum gaskets from sealing. Aside from that embarassment the truck is back in good shape. The carquest heater core is working well with no leaks. I was able to lower the transmission mount half an inch to get the transmission off of the body and the tail shaft is only 2.5° tail low (was 5°). I also had the drive shaft balanced. There is less vibration, but I think it can be better. For now I'm gonna drive it. :)

PAST ready! HOPEFULLY, fingers crossed, I'll get her on the ground this weekend. The wife works all weekend, so I have two FULL days to work. But it's also supposed to snow, so that might put a damper on any driving dreams this weekend...

 I will keep my fingers crossed too!

It seems like everyone has vibration problems with these old trucks.
I'm not really looking forward to chasing the vibration down once mine is driving again but I know I wont be happy untill it's near perfect...sigh

I like the color of your truck. Mine, a 69, was the same color at birth, but was repainted with the thickest, hardest purple paint I have ever seen. I tried to sand down to the original, but it was too thin. Glad yours made it!

Thanks, I like it too!

Why kind of a drop can you expect with that setup?

No, not in the budget right now. Maybe someday!

Dave at PB says the mild coil over drop member should resemble my existing 4.5/6. The extreme drop member is very low, I believe the Blazer built by Hills R&C has that set up.

I know right, I'm so jealous of who ever got the chassis in the PB pictures.

Newbie here too. This was a great read and inspiring to me for my 69 stepper. When I initially saw the pics I thought for sure it was bagged. I am static dropping mine for now and really like the stance yours has. great work! Did you end up getting the rear wheels centered or did I miss that part? Also, what 6" rear coils did you go with?
