I know it won't be an easy find, restoration, or whatever. But it's a goal I'd like to achieve if possible. All the above reasons are just the things that drives me. From the family of good old GM trucks I think something like that would be right for me. A lighter big truck with a unique and very GM style department graduate look. I should have grabber one years ago. I'd probably want to buy a nice example at this point, like the one I showed. I'd probably go on the light side, but a heavier with 6v Detroit would be nice for sure

Your best bet is to watch eBay. They are out there time to time. Usually around $75 each.

5 years or so ago, there was this 1967 GMC 6500 tilt cab on the Riverside CA. Craigslist. It was an equipment (backhoe, ect.) transporter, very low miles. I thought of buying it with a friend who was also interested in it, we were thinking of using it as a car transporter. It was a diesel, but not a Detroit. 478 Toroflow.......

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

A member has a gasser for sale here few-five years ago I wished I could have bought. I can't remember if it was a tractor or had a body on it. Maybe a car hauler. I see where the Toroflow was fairly common in the lighter trucks.

Bob B. 05-12-2018 02:06 PM

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Believe it or not, the Toroflow was the most popular mid-range diesel in the U.S. during the 60's. There were a lot of them, but when they died they were usually replaced with GMC V-6's or Chevy 366/427's. Around here they were quite rare after the 70's.

Good looking Long Nose 9500 above, but there are a few things interesting there. It looks like a High Hood with the correct Front Grille and Headlight positions, but it has Low Hood Fenders. I believe the fiberglass Tilt Nose has been changed. Also looks like a 1-Piece Windshield which probably means a 7500 Cab. Along with a newer style Front Bumper.

Impressive results though.

This is one that has the V-12 conversion.................And it ain't factory, but it fits . Didn't see quite enough detail when it was posted on ATHS forum several years ago .

I do remember this truck has a V12. I should have pointed that out. Makes it more interesting, right? She's a beast.

Cool interior shot and ride-along.

Wonder what that Lever is for on the right side of the column. It does seem to be some kind of throttle.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I wondered that, too. Possibly manual injection of a booster like alcohol, water, or ???

hand throttle like a farm tractor . . . . that kind of ride try holding your foot on the floor pedal and drive it .

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I thought that at first, but around 1:37 when he is about to launch the revs go up without moving the lever. But I'm sure you're right. Just like a tractor it still has a foot pedal. Looks like he uses lever to set idle up just part way during staging, then the pedal off the line, once he mashes it the lever comes down to wide open and that's the control for the rest of the pull. Just uses pedal for control at launch... and transporting around.

I always think those are a waste of a good heavy medium truck that was probably in nice shape. You want to chop, hot rod and modify? Do it to something you can't resurrect. Seen far too many of these big trucks get the cab removal treatment...

The argument comes down to live and let live. It's cool to see someone carry out a vision and have it turn out nicely, no matter what it is. The problem I have is with the flood of followers riding the wake of the truly creative with all their monkey see monkey do. And if these trucks were no good for anything else it would be different. These trucks are still great at what they do or not far from it. One that needs a whole heap of work would be a true challenge on parts alone. All I can say is there's nothing like a labor of love stock restoration that looks like it's straight out of a brochure. That is a bigger challenge that fabbing a hot rod.

What is the story with those Steel Tilt's? Those tires and rear axles are not RPO's.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Well, that explains those trucks. Unusual, because GMC was generally not known for building small numbers of 'special' trucks (International and Dodge were). I believe Inland Steel was a supplier to GM back in those days, perhaps that had something to do with those trucks being built.

Thanks very much for posting.

Great chart.

And sure enough, there is my old truck, JE-9500 with a V-8 Gas.

I also see now that my old 7500 was an HG. Never knew that. (V-6 Toro Flow). Although it got changed over to a 6V-53 before I bought it.

Would be interesting to see the MH charts.

I'd like to have a dedicated plow truck. Get it all right, set-up, and keep it nice, just for that use... nearby. Take it out to a local show or two, keep in machine shed.
