Sarah Here:
All's fine. Just been out of the shop for a bit. Dad's shop hand has been on vacation. On another note: We'll be at Bothwell this weekend. Is anyone else going? Unfortunately the truck won't be ready to go, but we'll be there regardless. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the update. When I saw the thread I got a big silly grin. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister

A last-minute decision... but it looks like I'll be at Bothwell tomorrow. Gayle and I will be heading down for the day, then back to London in the evening to hang out with the Disciples of Speed at the E.L.T.A. open house. Should be a long fun day! I'm looking forward to meeting up with you guys. I'll call you when we arrive. |

Hi guys. Well after a long summer break of rehab vacations and rapping up some other projects I think we're about ready to get back to work. To start here's a couple of trucks from a recent show. Then tomorrow we'll get back to work in the shop

Thanks guys it's good to be back to work. The first project to get finished is the yellow 67 pick up. After test fitting the panels and some measuring it seems the passenger side frame rail is slightly bent. Instead of trying to straighten the frame I decided to replace the frame with one I purchased at a swap meet. To make it easier to work on we moved the truck up to the shop from the barn. We got the truck jacked up and disconnected everything that connects the frame to the cab and box
|
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
And we're Moooovin' Mooovin'
Progress. Pity the frame was bent, but at least you have a solution. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Good to see you back at it!

We decided to just change the bent frame rail so we cut all the rivets, knocked them out with a punch and pulled the rail off. Then we hung it off of a ladder and gave it a coat of POR 15. We also started to pull the frame out from under the truck to be sure everything is free and clear.

Today we pulled the frame out of the shop and disconnected everything from the passenger side frame rail. Then we put the new rail in place and started reconnecting everything.

After we got the rail changed we decided to modify the drivers side of the frame to make a new style of wheelchair lift in the pick up.Doing the modifications now will slow down the reassembly but it's easier with the body off. To start off we removed the exhaust, trailing arms and the crossmember. Stay tuned next week for more updates |

Today we got started on the new trailing arm crossmember. To make more space we are moving the crossmember back 9 inches so we chopped that amount out of the trailing arms then welded them back together. Then we remounted to the rear axle

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Clever Clever Clever.
Amazing how necessity is the mother of invention. As always, great to see your updates. And of course the doggy assistant. They make a difference too. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Quality work! Anxiously awaiting the next installment.

Today we used the plasma cutter to split one side of a 2X2. Then we slid it over the bottom of the drivers side frame rail and tacked it in place. |
Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Neat idea. I see great things coming.

Today we finished the new trailing arm crossmember and welded and bolted it in place. Then we made the inside rail of the box we are making and then set it in place. |
