Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Put L6 back together. Oil pan was leaking. Fixed it. Valve cover is leaking. Worked over for a while. Well.....I have to get a new one, it's only 41 years old and worn out. Now have to wait for it. That's enough for today.

Took her for her first mountain road trip today.
Pulled the entire road up to 5000' elevation in 4th gear, didn't even have to down shift for being behind a couple slow movers! I was thrilled with how my baby handled! I could also tell she was back in her element, being that she spent most of her life in the mountain roads. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Replaced tailgate bushings and adjusted the strikers so it would quit rattling, then I replaced the rear stabilizer bushings. Lost the rattling and squiking going down the road. Didn't realize how loud it all was. Then went to a local Cruz in. All and all it was a good day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Yesterday I charged the battery, put 4 gallons of gas in the new tank and was thinking about putting the interior back together today. WAS going to start her for the first time in two months. Went in the garage this morning and smelled gas. Looked underneath my driver side cab corner and saw a puddle of gas. Put my hand under there and sure enough a small bubble of paint on the back of my gas tank. Needless to say I emtied the tank, removed seat, tank and carpet. Luckily I had the old tank still, so I painted it to match, and put it back in. Put some gas in it about 10 minutes agao and will put the seat in after dinner. I may even get to start her up today. A man can dream....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
added the dome light switch to the 3rd door so now my alarm works on all 3 doors. Next will be the hood and lift gate. Also got the gas struts installed on the lift gate. They are a little too strong but hopefull they will get easier over time. I even fired up the 67 today trying to get motivated enough to work on it a little.

|
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Persistence Pays Off!!! Got her fired up and let her run. Temp gauge isn't working but it has to be wiring. Put in a new sending unit when I had the engine out. Always something! Drove her back into the garage. It was a good day!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nothin, done with my truck for a while 'til something else goes wrong/breaks/etc, the whole never ending battle thing sucks, but I love it anyways.
Now it's on to installing the 350 into my '84 Trans Am. Gotta get some gaskets, clean up some wiring and drop it in. Should have a new intake showing up from Summit tomorrow for it too. Guess I'm done with this thread for a while. |

Drove the Burb to a car show/swap meet in Warsaw NY Sunday morning. Didn't find anything I had to have. Pleasant drive of about 35 miles each way through rolling hills. Burb is rattle-less now with all new door and window seals. Had to get back home by noon to go to a wedding reception.

Backed the Burb out of the middle bay so I could get the Harley out. Rode to the 50th Friday the Thirteenth Rally in Port Dover Ontario Canada. Thousands upon thousands of people and bikes descended on this beautiful little Lake Erie Port Village. Great time. Super day for a nice 220 mile round trip ride. Tomorrow I'll actually do some work on one of the trucks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My buddy & I just got my 72 K-10 Surburban running tonight after 2+ months of rebuilding the transmission & transfer case! It spent 2 years in the driveway, not being driven, because it only went backwards and I was lazy. Just the 200lb. cast iron transfer case took us 3 hours using a cherry picker down through the floor, floor jack underneath with a 2x10 board, and all the while pushing with our feet and pulling from up above to get it mounted! It was all worth it ... even though it was throwing serious smoke all the way home from the garage.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Was tacking in Outer rocker to check door fit, but had to stop and unplug my econotig because of lightning storm. Already lost a computer, modem and big screan TV 3 yrs ago. Not loosing my econotig.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
yesterday tore part a 425 I got that I was going to use the heads off of only to find out they arn't as good as the ones I have.....
so today I pulled the heads on the 500 and pulled all the valves out put in new oil rings and lapped them all in.... well except the one that was bent.... I was surprised how well everything came out even after hearing all the horror stories about beating the fire wall back just to make it fit..needless to say the vavle covers came off used the engine hoist to pull the intake off in 1 piece unhooked the exhaust pulled the head bolts ( torqued to 115 lbs 50 years ago) hooked the hoist to it let it sit for 20 min with tention till the gasket let go the lifted it all out cleaned up the valley....tomorrow I'll start soaking the lifters till I get the gaskets on Monday....should have it back together in 2 hours.... |
