Today I welded the kick panel patch. Still need to grind some of the welds down and prime it. I got my drivers side door out of the cottage. I needed to weld some fine threaded nuts in side the door to recieve the bolts for the hinge. I remembered that only one has a nut so I needed to weld two more nuts. What a pain that was. But I did get it done and now I have a door mocked up to the cab. Looks great all my lines are good and the rocker can be welded tomorrow. Going to grind the welds on the kick panel at the same time as I do the rocker weldes.
Also tried my replacement welded today and it works like the old one. imagine that. |
Re: 1968
Nice progress, you will have the cab all wrapped up before you know it, I bet that makes you happy.

I mounted both door on the primed cab. Next I am going to mount the cab on my painted frame.
Also, here is a picture of the frame. I was using as working table for my cab. |
Re: 1968
I am done with that frame. It is going to the classified section for sale.

Today, I mounted the cab on my painted frame. I need to install al my body parts so my Brother-In-Law can do his magic. He works for the Chevrolet dearler in south Florida at their body shop. The idea is that he can do the fine tuning on the body work and line up all my fenders and doors and stuff.
He can only come here for a week end. I will have everyhing ready for him on that date. |

I sprayed the under coating today also. I took a few pictures but they did not turn out so good.
Monday I will start and install my radiator core support and the fenders. |
Re: 1968
oh yeah! I have dreams of getting to that stage. That looks really good. I'm inspired.
starting to look like a TRUCK! |
Re: 1968
Can't wait to get to that stage, either. Nice progress! I'd send you a PM about your frame for sale, but its a half ton, and you live in Florida...

New ball joints upper and lower and the front sup. has been sand blasted and painted black The rear end is in great shape and like the sup. it also has been sand blasted and painted black. also the outter axle seals have been replaced. I was going to use them on my 67 frame. But I found a 72 frame with disk and 5 lug system. So I thought I better switch. the frame I am selling is a 6 lug system. |
Re: 1968
Guys I should have waited untill I had help. I damaged my rotator cup in my shoulder. I did the cab replace by myself. But, I just did not want to wait for my sons to help. One was on Vacation and the other lived 90 miles away and my son-in-law works all the time so I did it on Sat. But, I did it. That will teach me.

Re: 1968
Oh no, is your shoulder going to be okay? Glad you got the cab on but getting hurt in the process is never a welcome thing.
Your movin' at an impressive pace. Hope your shoulder gets better soon. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 1968
Ouch!! Are you going under the knife for repairs or are you gonna play through the pain for a while? Got a bum knee myself that I'm always a bit concerned with.

Hello guys.
It seems that I only pulled a mussel. At 63 I thought I did not have any (mussels) that is. So I took it easy. I did what I could untill the wifey came out and said I was crazy. Crazy can go a long way. I installed the radiator core support, the radiator and painted the fire wall satin black. I exchanged the short water pump to a long nose also. Went to town and picked up new gaskets and new bolts for the water pump short nose. Wrong bolts they all were to short. It seams that the long and short takes different bolts. Did not know that. So I went to town again and they did not have the bolts. It seems that 1 1/2 x3/8 is just a little to long. So I cut off 1/4 inch on each one. Still had a lot of thread left. Does cutting bolts weakling them? |

Water pum installed with cut bolts.
Guys do anyone have a water punp pulley for a 350 single belt. A cradle for the radiator bottom pass side. |
Re: 1968
The truck is looking great.
There is no problem with shortening those bolts. You should be able to pick up a single groove pully on Rockauto.com pretty cheap. Fab your own radiator bracket. |
Re: 1968
Why the change to the long nose water pump?
Looks like great progress. Rock Auto rocks. LMC has the brackets, don't they? I know I don't have any extras. |

Well, I am doing a lot better. My shoulder is healing on it's own. So, today I installed the drivers and pass side fenders and both inter fenders. Thoes clips that hold the inter fender to the outside fender what a chore. went to Ace hardware and bought enough for the fenders and when I got home I had some 1/4 inch and some 5/16 I guess someone through them in the wrong bin. It did not make a good day. But, I guess the end results is what's important anyway.

Re: 1968
Tomorrow I will be re-installing the drive shaft. I hope to get my fan and should on to.
Then maybe I should work on the bed get it together. Trying to get all my body parts back on the truck. When my Brothther-In-Law come down he want have too much to do except the fine tuning on the body work. |

Today, I finshed bolting down the front inter fender on the pass side. I re-installed the drive shaft. and mounted the bed. except for the wood. Going to paint the truck when my Brother-In-Law does the fine tuning. I think I will go ahead and paint the inside of the truck. So I can start with the sound mat and the wiring and putting the inside of the trck back together. Kubota orange. I have 5 quarts to do the job.
