Well tonight I got all the wires in the back hooked up. This should keep the gremlins out. In doing some research, I found an easy way to get the turn and brake lights hooked up was to use a brake light converter.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
are those conduit fittings or cannon plugs? man I just had a cold shiver remembering ringing out 50 pin cannon connectors after aircraft mods. wbblbllblblbljibblyjibbly

Re: My 52 GMC Build
you keeping track of hours!!! reminding me of my last build, just so much wiring and thinking ahead. People only see the outside, maybe inside, but never understand all the work it takes to get a well built truck going.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
No I'm not 99, it will be a lot. Yes your are so right!! No one will ever know how much time and effort goes into a build, it's almost sad.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Shops knock this stuff out in a few weeks....lol. It's hard to believe 5 guys can build a rig in that time but it's gonna take me a year or two, haha. I believe those build times you hear of are a bunch of bs though. I'm getting in 20+ hours a week on my build, which is a lot I think. It's easy to think, even if you're the builder, ah just a few wires here, few lines there.....ha, yeah right. Amazing the complexity of all the systems as a whole. Lot going on in an auto, even a simple setup. Looking good as usual Lowers. Chance

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Nice! All tucked in nice and neat. Good job. We'd all be rich if we got paid for the hours we have in our trucks! Ha!
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I agree with you guys. It take s a heck of a long time to build something from the ground up. Especially where you can't just un bolt and re bolt it together. Keep at it, you're making great progress!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Just spent the last 2-3 mornings going through the build. I'm a big fan of seeing old iron being brought back. All I can say is WOW and AMAZING. You've done some really, REALLY cool work - your attention to detail and skills are top-notch - and I can't wait to see you get it finished.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
While most people won't understand how much work you put into your truck real truck guys will apperciate the craftsmanship.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Wow Thanks for the compliments guys, means a lot. I work rotating shifts and when I'm working afternoons like this week I get 4-5 hrs a day to work on the truck. I agree Chance BS. Welcome aboard Bean Counter.

This morning I hooked up my 3 in one gauge (EGT, Trans temp, Boost). I also got my Transmission controller plugged in and mounted. The switch is for the 2 shifting programs I can have loaded.

This morning I made a bracket to hold my tack. While it was drying, I finished hooking up my trans controller and it turns on telling me I'm in park, so that's good. I also got my electric brake controller and tack mounted.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I just sent my preregistration $$ for a weekend car show, called Jalopy Jam Up in Durham Ontario August 19-20. I have also committed to go back to the Unfinished Nationals June 5 in Paris Ontario, which is my goal to have the truck driving. I hope the new truck gremlins treat me good.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
They will, you've crossed your t's and dotted your i's....

This morn I installed the wiper arms. Then figured out where the wiper motor would go. I started with the stock bracket then cut the mounting ears off. Held it up under the dash and it will sit quite nice on the dash support bracket. The hard part was drilling the mounting holes through the gauge holes, the drill was on a 45* angle but it worked. Now I have to make the arm that the wiper arms will attach to and it looks like it will work good.

As of this morning I have working wipers, tail lights and brake lights. For the wiper motor arm I used 1/2"X1"X5" but 1/2"X3/4"X3" would work. The center hole is 8mm with a 10mm step 3/4 of the way through. That is the profile of the wiper motor shaft. The pivot holes are 5/16" and I used a 5/16"X 1.5" bolt so the arm will pivot on the shoulder, then double nut. 2 vids of wipers.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
That's slick
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
This is great info! Is that center hole tight enough to interfere with the splines on the motor shaft, or are you just relying on the end nut to keep it tight enough?
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I need to copy that instead of buying the 150 buck replacement.....hmmm, nice work amigo!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
That's slick! That's will help out a lot of us!

Re: My 52 GMC Build

JJorgensen52 Bit of both the 10mm hole is drilled as a pilot for the arm and the angle down to the 8mm will grip on the splines. Then the nut will hold it as well. I ground a 10mm drill so it had a bigger angle on the tip. |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
super dope! what a great mod. I hate to admit I threw away a blazer rear gate before pulling the motor.

As of now I have gauges that as I can tell work and all my LED dash lights work.
I'm going to plug the block heater in tomorrow morning and fire the truck up. The only gauge that is not hooked up yet is boost. Attachment 1496096 |

[QUOTE=JJorgensen52; Lowers, the truck is looking great! How soon will you be rolling?[/QUOTE] Thanks. I think first test drive will be middle of April weather permitting. I have a 2 week holiday trip coming up in 2 weeks, so after that I should be able to pull it out of garage to the driveway for some testing. |
