Got the bracket for the power booster assembled (that was yesterday) and fitted up today. Have to clean and repaint that area of the firewall first, but hopefully soon it’ll be on. Media blasted with the natural parts painted VHT hi-temp satin clear and the booster bracket was done in VHT satin black epoxy.

Whoops. Looks like I forgot to post my new LMC exhaust. I pulled the old exhaust with the glasspack since the pipe crimped up notably when it turned under the cab. The new system stopped all of that dreaded backfiring.

Got tired of getting the black stuff from my steering wheel on my hands on these humid days so I yanked it off and did a quick paint job to it. A little scotch bright scuff and a few coats of rattle can satin clear and we're good to go.

Eh, I wanted to do the work myself. Just one of those things that I enjoy if I'm capable of doing them. The Ball joints just beat me, but thankfully the exhaust was relatively easy.

Scored a new steering wheel on FB marketplace for $35, including the mounting kit. Much better than the old 70's Camaro wheel, and the bonus is now I have a working horn which I haven't had in 14 years because the old wheel didn't have the internals for the horn.

I did the 500 mile break in oil and filter change today. I'm using NAPA 10/30 with Lucas Oil additive that has the zinc in it. Also replaced the coil in the HEI, I've been having problems with the engine not wanting to start after driving a while and getting good and warm. I've replaced two modules and no luck so I'm trying a different coil.

If you have an Edelbrock carb without an insulator gasket, the fuel is probably boiling out of the bowl. I had this problem with the stock cast iron intake until I put an insulator gasket between the intake and the spacer plate.

I've got a phenolic 1/2" spacer under the carb so I don't have a fuel boiling problem. When this happened I checked for spark and had none, and then when the engine cooled down some I'd get the spark back and it'd run. I did a test run yesterday with the replacement coil and it started right up even though the engine was hot. What irks me is that this is a new GM distributor but of course it has a made in Mexico sticker on it.

Sounds like you are on the right track then. Hope the new coil solves the issue.

Mexico doesn't have the same import requirements we do. A part can be imported from China to Mexico and then shipped to the US as "Made in Mexico".

Upped the initial timing from 8 to 14 degrees to make total amount 36 degrees. Much better throttle response. Need to get a tach that goes to at least 4K rpm to see when total advance is all in. I'm thinking that I need to recurve the HEI distributor

.
Pulled out the old dizzy and prepped the new one for install...

MSD 8361:

Stock blue bushing will stay there for 21* of mech timing.
Placed one light blue and one light silver spring on the mech assembly, this should bring all 21* of mech timing in just under 2500.

Will stab it in soon...

Since I can't paint my bed because my compressor went south. Can't complain its 27 years old . Motor is a GE 5 HP made in USA . Keeping that and the pump tank is shot. But I worked on the passenger door today. Inner door is all fixed and it fits very well little more body work and I'll paint it .

Picking up the new one tomorrow at Tractor supply. Getting the 80 gallon ingersal rand .

Changed the oil and filter replacing 10-30 with 10-40.

Replaced dimmer switch with ACDELCO D808 (Made in Taiwan-the first one i ordered didn't work).

Reconnected the wiper switch connector that has been off for 2 years now that the rain is done for the year and I won't need it.

This is fun, if it wasn't 96° out I'd do more. -BA
