I finish the 2 1/2 day puzzle today. I think I was only able to lay (2) complete sheets the rest was make a template cut and lay. Then go back and tape all the seames and there was alot of them.

My son took our 63' to high school autoshop for a brake job...$40 in parts and free labor including turning the rotors and drums and we have a truck that actually stops! Good job kids! The shop teacher likes the older vehicles because they make great teaching projects because they are simple..

took the truck to the BBQ today at work. one of my joes took these...pretty cool. then the drivers window got stuck down, had to fix that when i got home.

Had a great day with my son at grandpa's for some misc work on the truck. My son learned to weld and we got many little items taken care of. Found out Grandpa had a pyrometer to check true engine temp and while the truck was running 11 quarts of tranny fluid poured out all over his driveway between the tranny and engine....Just had the tranny worked on...now I am about to find out how well this guy stands behind his work....was a great day right up until the end..

Actually yesterday, but went to Conroe Swap Meet. Found a gret chrome bumper with the guards on them and a 63 grill for a steal. Too bad I didn't sell anything .

I was at the Conroe swap meet today. A lot of people were already gone. All I bought was some red scuff pads.I need to go on saturday next time.

Spent an hour bead blasting my diff cover and painting it, also blew apart my 283. I thought I was going to get lucky with a re-gasket,NOT.

Pulled the Steering column and started building the pieces to use my Cherry Picker to lift the cab...

Well i left the 65 hang for a bit....and have been having a bad week for my 58 build....short version. I plasma cut out the original cross member to get my vette power rack out because...at my buddies shop someone hooked the power steering lines up backwards and blew out the seals out of he rack.....UGH and Ugh again....

Had my truck towed back to the tranny shop to figure out exactly what happened...got only 15 miles out of that service job.....

I havent landed on what type of connectors I am going to use. But the inner fender will hide all the hoses. The hoses will exit the engine bay up just in front of where the batter box used to be. So the plan is to use three hoses for each with two sets of through firewall fittings. One set through the firewall and the other through the inner fender. The battery will be relocated under the bed. |

Well, not today but over the span of a week or so and a couple of revisions I made my brackets to install my 96 Lincoln Mark VIII cooling fan. With the A/C on & idling in traffic or the drive through in the summer (tripple digits) my truck runs a lot hotter than I like so I decided to go with an electric cooling fan. I researched it a lot on the internet and from what I read a 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII or 1988-1995 Ford Taurus cooling fan is the way to go. The Lincoln MVIII proved to be the better fit for our trucks. From what I read on the net there are conflicting statements that MVIII fans are single speed & two speed fans. All the fans I looked at had 3 leads off the motor. When testing the motors at the junk yard, every one I tested when applying power to the center lead (using my 18V Dewalt Cordless battery) nothing happened. Removing the small inspection cover off the back of the motor revealed the center lead goes no where. Hence a single speed fan. Don't believe everything you read in the different forums. I can only tell you what I've experienced maybe some are 2 speed fans. I also read to use a fan relay from a 92 & newer Volvo this is a very neat & compact set up. One main hot lead in, the 2 center ones will complete the ground to fire the relays & 2 leads out to the fans. Since my fan is single speed I'll only use 1/2 of the relay. I grabbed several while I was in the yards, they some how fell into my pockets. No one tells you where these Vovlo relays are located. Some are mounted on the passenger side of the fan shroud at the top of the shroud, they just slide in the shroud. Others are located on the passenger side & mounted to the lower side of the radiator support on the engine side.
I bought my fans for $17.00 each during a 1/2 off sale at the local self serve wrecking yard. OK, I've been told I'm so cheap I can squeeze 2 dimes out of a nickle but if you watch the pennies the dollars take care of them selves. Back to the fans. I folded up some stainless sheet on the brake at work & made some standoffs from stainless rod & tapped them 1/4 x 20 - you can also make standoffs using 1/2" schedule 40 PVC pipe or nipples, a light tap will set them over a 1/4" nut and instead of folding up sheet steel you could use some light 2" angle iron. I had to trim 1/2" off the top & bottom of the shroud to clear the radiator tanks and I had to trim some to clear the radiator hoses but once installed it looks almost factory. A little satin black paint on my brackets & it will be pretty well hidden to the casual eye. I found a temperature switch to turn on the fan from Summit for about $24.00 if I remember correctly but I'm waiting until I get a full order before I send for it. I'm sure not going to pay an $11.00 handling charge for a $24.00 part so I'm going to wait until I have at least $100.00 worth of junk to buy before placing an order. Again I'm CHEAP!!! |

Not today but Saturday I picked up a complete wiring Power Window/Door lock harness out of 75 C-10. only one wire had been cut - I think it's constant power to the door lock relay. I got the wiring, wiring conduits, lock solenoids, switches & relays and even picked up a passenger side cowl extension with no antenna hole off a 61 C-10. Grand toatal $44 and some change. It was another 1/2 off weekend at the local self serve wrecking yard. I plan on installing power windows & locks in my 64 C-10, now I just need to find a good deal on power window assemblys.

nice score. I remember reading something about the mark 8 fan.I think it had something to do with the slow start feature. the fan comes on slow and speeds up to cool as needed. cotrollled be thermo.dosent draw as much amperage all at once.will definitely be saving your install tips when we get this far along.I got kinda lazy researching a radiator fan combo on the last project and spent almost 1 k on the set up.nothing wrong with shopping for bargains

Had my seat recovered in OE material. Thanks to Dominic at Custom Interior Fabrication. Looks great can't wait to bolt in back in tomorrow.

Got the Porterbuilt shock mounts and the lower adjustable trac bar mount attached to my trailing arms. I removed 2 more rivets from the stock upper trac bar mount. Rivet removal is a major PITA while laying on your back under the bed!!!! 5 more rivets to go and the rear suspension work will wrap up quickly after that. I'll post the final results on my build thread when done.
