Today I finished up a major rewiring job. Underdash harness, front harness and engine harness. This also allowed me to switch from lights to gauges. It was at the scary point when I took the picture. Never done any wiring before but it all worked out good!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
THANKS! That's 3 coats of primer, blocked and sanded. Then another coat of primer wet sanded with 600. Then 3 coats of base, that also had to be wet sanded with 600 to get some debris out. What you see is 4 coats of clear. We are real happy with it, very little debris in it and as deep as can be. We will also wet sand and buff that.

I replaced the leaking flex hose and thermostat cover with new chrome ones. Replaced the thermostat while I was at it. That turned out looking pretty nice! See the old vs. new pic.
I also installed door jam switches and plan on putting in some under the dash "courtesy" lights next weekend. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I had to take some waste oil to a drop off spot where the trash trucks go. There is also a scale there. I wanted to know the weight of my truck so I was able to see as I went over the scale..
It was 3940# with me in it. I figured with out me and the waste oil the weight is around 3700#. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got the lower ball joints out with a loaner ball joint kit from A.Z. and an impact.
Found a different media blasting place much cheaper and BBB rated so I am going to have him do the backing plates, coils and a few other small parts as well. Dropping off Wed and picking up Sat. Way ahead of schedule for once! Also picked up part of the material for the door panels today on sale. Gotta find some lighter suede to get started on them. It's way too early for them but, it's getting dark quicker and I can work on these in the back room of the house. Steven |

Ball joints and tie rod ends came in yesterday. Dropped off even more parts to be blasted. They will be done Tuesday... a couple days behind but I can make up the time by going to the shop in the evenings to get them painted. Still plan to assemble the suspension next weekend.

Well decided to run down the electrical problems. With all the previous posts on electrical it was easy to find the biggest problem. On the backside of the fuse block I found the power wire into the block corroded and completely apart. That was a easy fix. It was not long I had to unwrap the wires under the dash. There I found wires cut and spliced where they didn't do any good. Two days into the electrical and I think I can wrap it up. Finally got turn sigs, tail lights and all.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
wow, good for you on the electrical. Wiring, I do a lot of and still is no fun, slow time consuming isn't it. Cool your getting close to done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Started metal work on my hood. Would like to buy the replacement pieces but unfortunately my finances won't allow it so I am making the pieces I need and doing the best I can. It's a slow process but I will get there eventually.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Washed, polished, and hung out at the Woodland Hills, CA car show hang out....Jay Leno came by with an amazing "Tank" car.....had a 12 cylinder Patton tank engine diesel in it....very cool. Came home and took out an intake manifold bolt that had been leaking some oil and re-sealed the bolt and is currently setting over night....hope that seals that nasty oil leaker....just enough oil to smell when you are cruising....don't you hate that? Now she's resting nicely under the cover:)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got a big pile of parts back from the blaster tonight:
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...D839D9E35E.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...D836AE592F.jpg I didn't want to unwrap them all but had to peek: http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...D834302BCB.jpg My buddy did an incredible job! He did all 4 control arms, front coils, front backing plates and crossmember. Total cost: FREE! Tomorrow night is a marathon painting session so they don't flash rust. Steven |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Depending on your humidity in your region, get some coating on them quickly. In the gulf south, you can sit down and actually watch them start to rust.
