It raised it's ugly head again so I removed the bullet connectors and replaced with a waterproof sealed connector like used on todays new cars. It solved the problem for about a day and was back. Now I'm about ready for the rubber truck.:metal: I decided it must be another problem so I started checking voltage to the O.D. controller and was getting erratic readings of 2 volts or less and if I wiggled the wire(s) I could get 12 volts. Long story short, the main 12 volt supply wire was a very fine 10 gauge multi strand that I had put shrink tube on the connector eyes, but still had corrosion on both ends and evidently as I was wiggling and sorting wires it would make the connection to make me think the problem was solved. Ran a whole new power wire and it has 12.7 volts both ends. |

That is a '71-'72 grille that my father in law butchered to install the park lamps/turn signals. Weird, yes? I guess 30+ years ago when he put it in, it probably looked better.

Finally finished up the inside rewiring and the new (cheap) gauge bezel install.

Tried to install Cab/Radiator Mounts, first off it is freaking HOT but I am about 1/2 done.
I started with the driver's side, since the radiator lower rubber was completely gone. My 1st challenge was that I am lucky to have the tack wield in the cab floor's forward bolt head. After what seemed like forever using my Dremel tool, I got it out! After that installing the forward & rear new rubber mounts was a snap. But didn't tighten things down as I needed to do the radiator's rubber mount. The nut for the radiator's bolt would not move - ugh. I soaked the nut/bolt with liquid wrench & Free-All - no help. Then I got my hobby torch out and heated up the nut/bolt to a zillion degrees - that got me going! I spent more time on the radiator rubber mount than I did on the cab mounts (including Dremel'ing). Next challenge is that I didn't get any sleeves for the front mount from GMC Pauls. On top of that I had extra (smaller) rubber mounts in cab mount bag. The whole parts fulfillment has me sooooo confused. The extra mounts I got with the cab bag had 4 smaller mounts, two washers, 2 nuts, and shorter sleeves (no bolts). So I used one of those shorter sleeves for my radiator rubber mount but I think it is to short as the lower rubber mount looks smushed. Not really happy with GMC Paul's right now - plus I ordered these last Saturday and didn't get them until today (that I believe was USPS fault). Nothing like working on your truck on the weekend LOL |

Finally finished buttoning up my brake lines. Clamping that stuff with the crossmember right in my teeth wasn't fun, but at least it was cool in the shade under the truck

Finished the passenger's cushion mounts, toque everything down and test drove. Cab and front end stayed on the frame - so job done. Drove great - hope that holds ;-)
Though it was stressful with a bad fulfillment of parts from GMC Paul's - the parts bag had a 4wd radiator cushions included and the 2wd radiator cushion didn't have sleeves included (luckily 2wd & 4wd sleeves are the same or I'd been fu*ked). |

I bought a '72 Cheyenne Super glove box and stole its wood grain appliqué and emblem to move to my truck's glove box.
I am being naughty and up sizing my Cheyenne to Super. I have "Super" fender emblems too but that will take a bit since fenders will need to come off. My tailgate handle has been chrome for some time and I am dealing with my crapo wood grain bezel sticker next. I also have on a the way a new SPID from outintheshop.com (Jeff/chipflyer) that will re-brand my truck as Super, along with other factory type bits I have added... |

Took the 71 out for it's first spin with the new 700R4 installed. What a big difference. 75 mph at 2200 rpm nice driver on the highway now. just need some AC.

Painted a chrome glove box door with wrinkle paint last week and today installed the new spid made by Jeff from " Out in the Shop" with the upgrades I added to the truck. Next up get it on the truck.

I am feeling less guilty having Jeff do the same for me, I am hoping he ships soon. I have my old SPID off (intact too) and all the glue off the door. I'm keeping the old one for proper records of the truck. I have to say I am stressing about getting the label on right, so I ordered a 2nd one for a extra $10 LOL |
