The old seat would still bring $50-$100 I wouldn't throw it away. The seat in my truck is mot the original, its out of something newer. Not sure what so I guess its off to the upholstery shop before long, but I still have to fix brackets so they bolt to the seat.

I just drilled 4 new holes. And took a peace of meatal and welded the nuts to it for reinfocememt on the bottom side. Dont have to have 2 wrenches to remove or install it. It cant be move foward or back thoue. The only way to mount it between the bump in the floor was to have the seat all of the way Foward. The back of the seat is touching the gas tank. And the arm rest is always down. Cant fold up because it hits the gas tank, wich is fine by me. And if i realy need to fold it up. I can esaly unbolt the seat and fold it up.

I would of keeped it if it was a full foam seat. You cant buy the bottom foam for the ' base modle seat' you could have some make the foam, yes but it was not worth it to me. And the seat is already gone.

I like it. Might have to do somthing like that. Dont know how it would work with a factory 4 speed shifter. Might hit it in 4th or revers

It's offset for the shifter

My uncle gave me a 68 C10 that hasn’t ran since 09. Me and my 5yr old been wrenching on it all weekend trying to get it started. Well we got her running today!!! Now that it’s running it’s time for some modifications.

Oh okay I see what you’re saying now, it was worn out. Mine is an original seat but it’s not original to my truck. The seat looks good though, I like it. Too bad it doesn’t have cup holders. I desperately need some but I hate to pay the price for a console. But I’m sick of trying to work the clutch and gas with a drink between my legs haha

I saw a spray paint/screwdriver holder at Harbor Freight & have been using that with success. I stick it to the glove box door, so it's out of the way of the shifter. But my 52 oz. gas station drink won't fit into it. Even if it did, I wouldn't feel safe about the magnets holding it up. But, a couple of cans or fast food smaller cups, no sweat.

It may still hit in reverse though because that’s basically exactly where reverse is. To the right and all the way against the seat. I’m going to have to make something like this though.

Thanks for that information! Our "local" pick-a-part has seats for $41. I may go with one of my sons and look around. I'm thinking that a 2nd seat from a 'burb or 4-door truck, properly modified, might be better. We have to have 3 seated in the truck when we take my wife's mother camping, and if I got the seat so that everyone had a headrest, that would be a bonus.

My seat is the rear seat out of a 4 door dully. The bubans are different. But might work. Not shure if the mounting brackets are the same. Have not looked into subruban rear seat. Let me know what you find.

That is awesome, hilarious, and clever all in one. It could even be paint matched and easily removed and stuck in the glove box when at a show or something. It would have a really clean look if the screw driver holder was removed. This is tempting.

I finished the bottom side welds and then wire wheeled it clean. Then I rolled and brushed on this Duplicilor rust barrier. I doubled up where the welds were just for extra precaution. Half way into applying it I remembered that I had heard the only thing that will seal bare metal is epoxy primer, and an unopened gallon sat 5 feet from me.😩 It will be a PIA to get this stuff off if I made a mistake. My feeling at the moment is this, if this truck has made it 46 years left outside with only a minimal amount of rust to repair, I figure I’m gonna be ok without the epoxy primer underneath this stuff. What do y’all think?

Artofdeath 04-16-2018 07:58 AM

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Watching their demo video on their site, they use the rust barrier on rusty metal without a primer. Knock off the rust and hit it with a grease and wax remover and apply directly over rusty metal.

From your pictures you were way ahead of what they were doing so I would say you are good to go.

Some of the paint guru's may chip in and say otherwise tho.

oh, no wait... it's totally messed up and I will gladly take it off your hands!

Yeah tell me about it! I just removed my snow tires on my car. Been sleet coming down all day. I wasted the only nice days prepping and painting the bumper on my truck, so I still haven't got to drive it.

I've thought about possibly buying magnets & putting them on the bottom to "stick" it on the floor. That way, the passenger won't bang their knees on it. But, most of us have carpet or rubber flooring, so that isn't as easy as I make it sound.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Yesterday I picked up an older aluminum cap for my '72 for swap meets and camping. Today, after the rain I have been waiting for to wash the roads clean, I uncovered the truck. I keep it on jack stands with the tires barely touching all winter and now it's time to drive it. The routine is first rotate the tires and lube up the brake sliders. I noticed the chrome lug nuts had a little rust starting, so I used chrome cleaner polish, wiped, waxed, and polished off first. Got the wheels on, off jack stands, started up, and moved truck trailer spot, and trailer with new cap in truck's spot to unload the cap for painting. That's it and it took a while due to the lug nut situation. Next is mount the cap for Carlisle

That isn’t a bad idea. My truck didn’t come with carpet originally. It just has a thin rubber flow mat that crosses the hump. That wouldn’t be hard to work around.

A friend gave me a 1969 C20 Custom Camper. My 14yr old son and I cleaned it up, tinkered on the wiring and installed new/used wheels and tires on it yesterday. Planning for it to be his first car when he gets his license. Will be leveling it in the coming weeks. Trying to find lift ideas for a C20 lead me to the site. Thanks to all who post as I have found some great information. Having fun working on it with him!

It's a blazer fill neck and a suburban tank as I'm told.
