Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Last part ( Part 5 ) of this hand wash basin build.

It is interesting how much time and resource it actually takes to complete something as simple as this.

Makes me realise why someone would charge £200 for this without batting an eyelid.

Once the basin and stand was complete the job I had not had a solution for actually did come together one evening on the way home from Sally’s house.
Along the way there is a house known as Ivy House for obvious reasons. An absolute knob lives there DAMHIK
Anyway, out on his sidewalk at his 6 foot gate, I saw an old Jerry can laying. Obviously for a scrap collector to pick up. So I turned around and fetched it.
Faded, rusted, clearly not in good health but intact, I planned on using it for the relocated fuel filler neck on my 66 C10 truck as I had a very dented and damaged one, but this was much better.

UNTIL I REALISED IT WOULD BE A GREAT WATER RESERVOIR.

So I fetched it and cleaned it, as per video attached.

https://youtu.be/uNVoEXSMIyA?si=fhkG-3OCQJaUjiVQ

I found an old brass tap in my stash and added it to the Jerry can.

Job done once I cleaned it all some more and filled it with fresh water.

Using some steel shelving on hand to support the water it makes for a perfect tool.

I guess that’s the end of this little build.

Thanks to those of you taking the time to comment on here and on YouTube.

Much appreciated.

BBQ Deer steaks, broccoli, potatoes, onions and a beer or two with friends in Rogers workshop.

Joined by Adolphus Busch V (fifth) of the historical Busch brewing family. I do get to meet some interesting people.

Anyway, home to Dennis’ by 8.30 and a bit of chatting in Dennis’ shop and seeing new build projects and progress.

Bed by 9.30pm after 24 hours awake.

Slept 8 hours !!!!!!

That’s never happened before.

So Day One of the trip was spent alone as Craig was still in Stockholm for work.

Some walking around and shops through the day.

Ending up in Dennis’ shop in the evening.

I tried to edit it to something sensible.

Did I succeed??

So this was Thursday after an incredible 8 hours sleep.

Friday next.

So when you are out on a USA road trip and things just can’t get any better……..

And you happen to have grown up on a VW Garage floor since you were 9 months old.

You wake up to a notification like this……

@CraigRK has wanted another VW Beetle for as long as I have known him.

And then he wins one for £20.00 or $26.00

Includes free delivery from Scotland

BOOOOOOM !!!!

Saturday last week was Dennis’ son Adams sons birthday.

Held in a park with kids and grownups it moved to Dennis and Debbie’s place.

The day was mostly spent in the garage planning, talking, moving stuff around.

I bailed out by 9.30 as my feet were killing me and I was tired.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Well the USA road trip that just keeps giving.

A few days spent near Tulsa in Oklahoma with Andy @oldironfarmer on his farm, including track hoe (digger) and Bobcat fun.

Andy also loves teaching and sharing his knowledge.

@craigrk and I both love learning about new things.

So when offered an opportunity to make a broom for his wife by Andy, while I was busy shaping and crafting two of the railroad spikes we had blacksmithed early in the morning before it got really hot into knife blanks, he grabbed the opportunity.

A short video in photos and Time Lapse below.

https://youtu.be/E_SQC74tPMM?si=hRqOGFssxDaYvenb

After the broom making we went out to lunch after collecting friend Carol just soften the tone.

Another great day spent with friends.

Thanks Andy.

Headed out to Nashville today, using backroads.

This is a great trip.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So……….

Craig continues to drive and enjoy driving the truck while I take a ton of photos and videos.

All still to be edited and made some sense of. But for now I’m trying to actually enjoy my trip.

This is just an interim waypoint entry.

We are in a Best Western Plus hotel in Clarksville just outside Nashville Tennessee, having set WAZE to take us on scenic backroads designed for motorcycles.

So it took us 13 hours to get here via Metropolis.

Remember who lives inn metropolis??

We saw Superman and an absolutely dead town.

Also stopped at a junk store where I spent $5.00 on 5 items.

Well the one item was three items.

Tell me I am not having a great time spending the cash.

The three cars are special.
A slammed 2WD Blazer like I used to have.
A Custom 62 Chevy C10
And a Jeep

I also found an Eagle of unknown origin or purpose

And a nice Tennessee license plate for $1.00

And top buy was a good Toy Story Woody to attach to the rear step of the truck.

Craig bought a New, unused Coca Cola Christmas decoration for $1.00

We got to meet interesting awesome people and I got a kiss on the cheek for my accent.

Today will be a full tourist day in Nashville and then head for Memphis late in the day.

48 hour delivery.

I wanted a set of clear indicators for the Astro since @Rocket88 sold it to me.

Being here in the USA meant direct order and less than half the UK delivered price.

Also got some great advice on fitting them.

Congratulations. They are getting hard to find. You will discover that the holes are not tapped to accept the bolts to mount them to the headlight bezels. Had to tap mine, which is easy as it’s plastic

Super chuffed.

And now we are up to Sunday.

The first year I visited Dennis and Debbie here in Missouri in 2016 they took me out for a day and it included ferries, three different rivers including the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers.

Lunch was at Aeries Winery up on the hill, after a $10.00 per person ski lift ride up the hill. Thanks Dennis.

Another almost “Real Time” update.

Yesterday Adam, Dave, Warren and I met up at Ethyls Smoke House restaurant for lunch after dropping son Tripp at the child minders.

Following and awesome lunch, served by the eternally hot and busy Kelly, I had BBQ wings with bleu cheese sauce, we went to Daves house to collect a Kawazaki KX 80 that was Adams as a kid, given to Dave subsequently for his grandkids and now 22 years later full circle, back with Adam and Dennis.

9/11 also Dennis’ Birthday.

He has taken a day off work and the two of us are headed out in his GMC Jimmy for a day trip to Hannibal and elsewhere.

So we got to Clem and Kims in Fayetteville late afternoon.
planned so that we didn’t interfere in their business as both run their own businesses.

I have visited them every year since 2015 when my buddy Martin and I attended Toys for Tots, which Tubatrucks.com support.

True Southern hospitality with a touch of Texas and 70’s California thrown in.

I will just post a video and a bunch of pics.

It’s possible this is my favourite video upload so far.

Video.

https://youtu.be/llLj_7DaXKQ?si=_aRz_rjkI4S4XeFs

After our goodbyes to Clem, Kim and the animals we headed out over the street to a Kum and Go gas station for ice for our amazing Yeti icebox.

Cold drinks on the road are nice.

Next stop was Andy’s house near Terlton, which is near Tulsa in Oklahoma.

Uneventful day and we almost got out of our truck, straight into his Ford Lightening EV farm truck.

Already done 59k miles, by now it’s bound to be 60k miles which in modern language is 100k km.

Lunch was Mexican.

I had Tilapia and have to say, mind blowing food. So good.

After lunch we went to Carols house where this double headed fan was being fitted.
It had been a gift from Michael Hutchens, whom we were visiting the next day.

Some random photos.

Video probably tomorrow or so.

Hope you guys/girls are keeping up.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So the afternoon of Day 1 at Andy’s we were on the tools, so to speak.
He allowed Craig and I to play with some of his machines in a cow pasture.

Who would say no to that??

Sure, some would, but not the two of us.

Few pictures.

VIDEO:

https://youtu.be/rID1XP-HMRU?si=_PzR1Cx1AI7-J2Xl

The next day we did a load of stuff including a visit to Michael Hutchens to see what he has been up to.

Lots of juicy stuff there and an interview around a Lotus Cortina race car that used to belong to Brian Johnson of AC/DC that’s been restored for historical racing.

Food a few times as well.

And some preparation for a first job interview, which I did not get to progress beyond stage one.

Grizz1963 09-25-2024 09:13 AM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So back to the next day.

I had that job interview for an ophthalmology specialist job. The lady said my CV would go forward. But it seems the sales manager who is a part time Magistrate of Justice of the Peace did not like what he saw. Declined once I was back in England.

After the interview, Andy took us and the rail spikes we had bought somewhere on the trip in a junk store, into the forge.

We forged 6 blades.

Knife forging video story.

https://youtu.be/rDIxyK7UWpM?si=sca7XJQNImMP4wNZ

Then I started shaping one, and two of them and Craig got a lesson in broom making, using Andy’s machines from the 1800’s to make his wife a broom.

Lunch was good, interrupting my shaping etc.

Waitress was pretty

Massive portions of everything.

Andy’s kids portion was stil more food than he chose to have.

Craigs and my left overs were a lunch for the two of us in the truck the Saturday when we headed home to Dennis’s house.

Again………

Hospitality and friendships were at the forefront of this visit.

Every time I leave Andy’s place I feel like I’m losing something.

Thank you @oldironfarmer and Carol.

Two lots of photos from Michael Hutchens workshop and yard before we get to some random metalworking photos.

Sorry. Not sorry.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Saturday morning we had breakfast at And’s and then went over to Carol’s house to say our goodbyes to them both and the dogs.

What a great few days in Oklahoma.

We both agreed that a week would still be too short.

Andy and Oklahoma hove so much to do.

Uneventful trip back to Dennis’s home.

Incredible steaks for dinner.

Sunday we nearly all had a hernia, manhandling some massive tool cabinets off and onto the Kawazaki Mule

Later we played on the lake, pulled and pushed on the Chevelle and got the rear welded in.

Relaxed evening

Monday was going to be an epic day.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Had two interviews this week for the same job in a biotech company worth $171.76 billion. So I guess they know how to run it.

1st with HR to assess fit, second with the hiring manager to assess function yesterday.
She has not fed back whether she loved or hated me.
But they have been interviewing since early May and not found the right fit.
Three of my former colleagues including a temporary manager have failed to impress them including two who made the third stage which includes a much more intense interview including presentation and interrogation by senior managers.

I am slightly unconventional in the way I work but have always delivered.

So we wait and see.

My expectations are extremely low.

Dressing up…..?

Hmmmmm………

Tuesday and Wednesday was spent really cleaning and sorting out my woodwork shed.

I want to sell on my Coronet Major wood lathe and all the associated extras that go with it.

I have not turned any wood in earnest for a few years now.

So I can surely use the space better for car and truck stuff.

Tuesday and Friday were interviews.

And today is Saturday with more things to do like cutting the hedges for the last time this year and probably the lawn too.

And maybe finding some time to create the Nashville part of the trip on a quick video plus uploading the pictures that go with it. That will be week two of 3 1/2 done.

Maybe companies should rethink their hiring criteria. Many young people are no longer willing to submit to this. They want more from life than just working from nine to five. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I recall being up at 03.30 and leaving home by 04.30 and driving 500km to see my first customers then driving 200km back the way I had come by 14.00 to work the rest of the week in a different city.

I was away from home 3 weeks out of four every month.

There are many more examples of how I used to work.

The rewards were meaningful as well for top performers.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Automotive update.

The Scenic had a Klunk going over humps and potholes. Specifically passenger side front. And after a while it became a KLUNK.

I did investigate and could not locate the source of the noise.

So I booked it in at my local garage for investigation and repair.

£135.00and a new topmount later, it seems fixed.

Money well spent on a 62k mile car.

Did I mention that I really like this car ?

My back objects to low cars, despite liking them.

Last night was fish n chips and a large spring roll. Spring rolls failed to impress. Fish was great.
I always order a pensioner portion and you can see, still a lot of food.

Today the Scenic is fetching a free Welsh dresser 25 miles away, it is for a new project unfolding at the moment.

More about that soon.

Doing what I want it to do.

Function over Form.

Welsh Dresser in.

Headed home.

Sand and varnish next.

48 miles or 80km to fetch a nice bit of free furniture works for my head.
